Given that, on 26 May 2023, Kalmah will be releasing their self-titled album, it is perhaps wise to look into their earliest, as well as their latest, works. The swamp-striders have remained ever consistent over the years, as well as faithful to their original style, and Palo very much continues these trends.

Pretty good, Roughly the same quality as Seventh Swamphony, but dense. Album lack standouts compared to 12 Gauge and The Black Waltz (let alone the immortal first 3}. However it is very consistent throughout

I would rate Seventh Swamphony a smidge higher, but this album has it all. It rivals their earlier works in terms of quality. It may lack certain hooks that the band is known for, but makes up for it with excellent instrumentation.

Decent album back to the swamps, even not so good as Heroes To Us or They Will Return, but maybe its hard to find some hit song what touch yoyr heart and you wanna be a song, but musically its decent back to the roots albums,. old farts still can deliver!

Sounds like a rehash of the old material with crappy production.

Sounds like a rehash of the old material with crappy production.

True, but more like rehash of The Black Waltz and For The revolution. Old Kalmah is almost nonexistent aside from 1 track.

As far as memorability goes, it's no Black Waltz; that's for sure. However, if you're looking for new Kalmah material; you won't be disappointed here - granted there's something you find to appreciate in any of their albums. Kalmah has been my favorite melodic death metal band for years so I'm definitely biased, but I had high expectations for this album and was slightly let down. I was a big fan of their last album (Seventh Swamphony), and it seems that with this album they didn't aim to set the bar higher; they just took a different approach that incorporated their original (Swamplord/They Will Return-era) sound and infused it with their current influences. Solid nonetheless, and worth checking out if you're a Kalmah fan or MDM fan in general.

This is a pretty average Kalmah album, but average Kalmah albums are better than a lot of what's out there. There's still plenty of passion, talent, and solid writing on display in Palo and I can't say that anything about it is necessarily bad. The production could have been a little better, some sections of songs could have been a little better too, they didn't really go in any new direction, but overall Kalmah made another good one. I think this one is more consistently good than Seventh Swamphony. It isn't their most memorable work, but every song is worth a listen and I'll definitely be enjoying it for a while.

Standout tracks: Take Me Away, Through The Shallow Waters, Erase And Diverge, The Stalker, The Evil Kin

I love Kalmah, and I continue to listen to their music, and all of the music until now has been amazing in my eyes, with many memorable tracks. This album though, it all sounds the same to me. Nothing memorable. It's not bad, it's just meh.
