Brute force with intricate thoughts put into it. This two-sided concept is what makes Neoandertals the brilliantly puzzling yet undeniably simple band ready to bash your skull in with a club.

I am the Magician and the Exorcist. I am the axle of the wheel, and the cube in the circle. “Come unto me” is a foolish word: for it is I that go.

This album for some reason reminds of the last nadja record in some sound aspects.
I like how they just very slightly tune their formula every time and the resulting album feels incredibly different? Like, this one is super groovy and almost feels sludgy. Ebu Gogo is a clicky drums and weird bass rhythm fest and Australopithecus is this weird fusion album

Check the debut as well, really fucking brutal but with some surprise moments of dissonant leads that put me on edge with how WTF they were.

This album is horrendously bad.

The emptiness that naturally comes from the lack of instrumentation is highlighted by the horrible horrible horrible production on both the drums and the gurgling muddy bass. Add in some spastic flip flop drumming that does not flow (with what little songwriting there is) and sprinkle some GRRR GRRR EEEEE BDM vocals on top, et voila. You end up with a 3/10 from me.

Yeah I remember finding Che's comment a bit needlessly patronizing at the time - I don't dislike this album cos it's not got guitar, I dislike it cos it sounds like shit

I definitely agree that his comment was quite bad. I enjoy this project a lot but it's clearly not for everyone and there are more elements that will diturb people than just the lack of guitars. The production is an example of that as well as some of the structures on this album being quite jazzy.

That being said, I would be willing to debate anyone saying there is little songwriting here. This project isn't that different from Botanist in the sense that the songwriting is clearly death metal (Black metal with Botanist) and there are in fact riffs. Many of the tracks woud sound downright normal if it weren't for the lack of guitars and the production choices.

I'm glad about these twoc omments though. It made me relisten to some of their songs and I'm still extremely impressed about how much they can do with so little. All 4 full lengths sound completely different to each other both in style and production.

I think the ability to forgo someone else's opinion and listen to what YOU personally like is sometimes missed on this site. A lot of people take it personally when someone doesn't like any album they like.

Perhaps my comment was a little harsh, there is definitely some songwriting here, but I think the lack of additional instrumentation doesn't do it any justice. I found that it often sounded like the drums and the bass were just playing whatever they wanted. This is where I could see the jazz influence, but to IMO it felt sloppy and disconnected.

It's hard to argue the Botanist point in comparison to this, but I think their sound is more full and aided by their short song runtimes.

I love how the bandcamp page actually has lyrics, but there's no way this growler is singing any of that. Well, I guess he could be singing it - not in English, but rather in caveman language

Check out their first demo and their first album if you don't like this one, they're better and you might enjoy them more
