Initially released as an Idle Hands album in 2019, distributed under the Unto Others moniker since September 2020.
A certain bloke that lurks around these premises said some time ago that nothing can make him lose interest faster than the mere reference of the term "gothic metal". I'd like to hear what he has to say about this one.
Talk about an album that really surprised me this year! Idle Hands managed with Mana to create an album that (while not bringing anything particularly new) feels fresh and inspired. There are two records so far this year that I would score higher than this one. However, I find myself listening to this album way more often. Why? Let me explain.
Good album, good debut, I think it's a good mix of heavy metal with gothic rock and with a minimal touch of black metal sound, a totally recommended album.
Been listening to a bunch of albums that were overall mostly disappointing the last few weeks. This one though, was one that immediately clicked with me, hence why I recommended it in the recommendations thread. It simply deserves some attention.
And the more I listen to this album, the more I like it. I really like the vocals and the music itself has a nice atmosphere and vibe to it thanks to the gothic touches.
Excellent debut album and I'm looking forward to their work in the future.

But their vocalist is the best thing about this album
Oh I bet it's great for a lot of people!
It's a very personal thing for me. But I just straight up don't like the guy's voice. Can't even really say what it is specifically.
Not throwing shade at ppl who like the album, more power to you!

Metal version of The Damned! The singer is really similar to Dave Vanian...
On paper that should be a winning combination for me but I'm just not feeling this album. I've tried playing it several times but always get 2 or 3 songs in and have to turn it off. With these kind of bands, the artist needs to sound sincere but all I'm hearing and seeing is style over substance.. Shame because it's had amazing reviews and lots of recommendations.

I think exactly the same.
Average songs done with a good but not sincere style.
Not a bad album but really forgettable...

Fresh, memorable and full of emotional moments homage to the late 90's Gothic Metal. Has nice nostalgic quality. Also mixed differently from modern metal so time to adopt is required.
I still haven't changed my opinion of this album. I just dont think it's as good as some people are saying. There are no stand out tracks and I'll be very surprised if any one is talking about this next year.
The best and worst thing about this album is the lead vocal. I was attracted bcoz of the vocal. Then I started loving the music. Later I felt if there were a better vocal, i would have given a higher rating.

In the beginning I was made of clay. Then I bit the apple and they changed me to metal 🤘
Vocal is the best part of that album! It's engaged, natural and so attractive (compared to typical metal voices). Vocal makes the sound of Idle Hands. Compositions are average (in overall) with 3 good tracks: Nightfall, Give Me To The Night and Dragon, Why Do You Cry?. The whole magic is done by vocalist with his rare type of singing.
My wife said Idle Hands "sounds like '70 opera rock". And it's true. But together with modern metal arrangements Idle Hands and their album is my best finding for 2020. It's not trash, death or pagan metal but still they catch me. I'm awaiting next album impatiently!
I like it but it sounds a bit too formulaic to me. It's a great iteration of what made gothic rock/metal great in the first place. The songwriting is pretty solid too. However, it seems like they're copying the sound of that era rather than giving it their own twist. You can hear that in the guitar tones, production, the selection of effects and vocals.
