Thats 70’s Rock
The Rods is one of the most interesting US Heavy Metal, Hard Rock or early Power Metal band from the end of the seventies, influenced by UK heavy metal for bands like Judas Priest, Rainbow and some of the NWOBHM.
Alongside with Riot ( Esperanza Era) The Rods, are pure energetic hard rock fast drumming powerful singer, virtuoso guitars~bass and great classics lyrics.
The Rods it’s probably one of the first power metal bands in US and great influence for the most of the early speed metal bands on the then thrash metal scene.
Line up:
David "Rock" Feinstein (guitar, vocals), Steven Starmer (bass, vocals), and Carl Canedy (drums, vocals). After the first album Starmer was replaced by Garry Bordonaro. Ronnie James Dio’s cousin.
There is no better artifact to establish the rules on what Heavy Metal will be sound nor attitude than this record, from 1980. First named Rock Hard and then The Rods 1981 cause label change, this is the day view album from the band. a collection of great hard rock songs with emphasis in the choruses, very energetic and powerful remains a taste of 70’s hard rock.
The band tried to be comercial and gentle during the whole album fortunately they fail and surrender to a most powerful sound. With songs like Crank it up, Music Man, Rock Hard and especially Wings of Fire the best song. the band proves thats The Rods are ready to impact in the Heavy Metal scene. But that never happened unfortunately some bands doesn’t have the same effect than others and this band either, the reason pressures of record company ( Arista) they want a hit single.
This is another underrated record from an overlooked band.
