Biography
An Introduction:
Fusing elements of extreme metal with crushing heaviness, Chosen are a band fully intent on taking their multi-layered music to a wider metal audience. Since the group's inception at the start of 2005, these enthusiastic stalwarts have gradually made a name for themselves within their local Irish metal scene, gaining much recognition and appreciation for their solid musicianship and high-energy live shows.
A Brief History of Chosen:
Formed by drummer David McCann and guitarist Paul Shields, the band first took shape as a quintet in January 2005, with bassist Matt Gaynor, guitarist Lar Bowler and vocalist Carl King rounding out the line-up. March of the same year saw the group recording their first two demo releases simultaneously. These EP's are titled Fragment (Piece I & Piece II). Gigging commenced in July and continued at a steady pace. Fragment (Piece I) was released in September 2005 and aided the band in getting their name out into the public domain while also securing some good gigs for the remainder of the year.
April 2006 saw the release of Fragment (Piece II) and showcased much improvement from its predecessor, receiving many positive reviews in both local and international press. During this time the guys had already recorded material for their third EP, Fragment (Piece III). However, throughout the mixing process, the band parted ways with second guitarist Lar Bowler.
Released in August 2006, Fragment (Piece III) marked a new step in the group's musical direction and once again earned the recently slimmed quartet further encouraging feedback from a whole range of press publications. Wasting no time whatsoever, Chosen entered Komodo Studios to record some more tracks that were then released in January of the following year under the title Promo 2007.
As well as being the release date for the promo, January 2007 also marked the departure of vocalist Carl King, who due to understandable familial commitments could no longer continue to be a member of the band. Faced with the unenviable task of recruiting a new voice for the group, the remaining three members began the search for a suitable replacement.
A New Beginning:
Having exhausted every option available to them over the course of the following year in search of a singer, the guys decided that a complete relocation to Vancouver, Canada would be a more exciting and beneficial option, providing greater prospects for the band in general.
Chosen are currently searching for a dedicated vocalist located around the Vancouver region, while at the same time rehearsing intensely, seeking gigs and writing as much new material as possible.
