Biography
Vermin hails from the Netherlands and is a five piece death metal band that uses progressive elements as well in their songs. Main influences are bands like Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal, Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy, Immolation, Deranged and also bands like Meshuggah, and Dillinger Escape Plan. The disbandment of the drummer's and guitarist's old band lead to the birth of Vermin in April 2002. Pascal (drums) and Ron (guitar) had a similar interest in death metal, and so they perused it.
A lot of rehearsing - up to 4 times a week - resulted in many ideas and songs as well, which were recorded by Pascal and Ron and with this tape they've soon found the remaining members who finished that demo, which us now known as "Alea Iacta Est" , Latin for something like 'now it's really getting started' and in the Roman era it was a deceleration for a war. The 3 song demo got the band a lot of gigs and soon a second demo was at hand .
This time a full-length album "Solypsis" complete with a video clip "Deviate" on the CD as a bonus (11 takes, shot, mixed added with some graphics by the band members), this time the resulted pressure as well as the amount of gigs lead to the 2nd guitar player quiting the band. A suitable replacement was found quickly in Wolf.
In may 2004, vocalist Thomas quit the band due to lack of interest in death metal, so the search of a new vocalist started, but soon added as Laurens was chosen as the band's new singer. September 2004 a try-out gig was performed with both old and new vocalist on stage, doing each a part of the set. Plans for recording the 'official' debut where already made, and the band started recording in October 2004. 16 songs were recorded at the well-known dutch studio for the genre: Excess in Rotterdam, the sessions went smoothly, probably due to the recording experience of the guys and the plans/schedule Vermin made for the recordings. However, Excess was suffering from illness under the crew those weeks, and so some parts had to be postponed to later times. the final mix and mastering were done on may 7th and 8th .
Meanwhile, Bart, the guitarist of Textures (Netherlands) and graphic artist, was preparing the artwork for the CD "A Nihilistic Swarm" and subsequently released by DEITY Down Records on May 20th 2006. This set the band off on an even busier spell of live shows.
An appearance on Germany's Fuck The Commerce Fest in 2006, a mini tour through Portugal in the same year and many club shows turned the band in an even more refined and leaner machine than before. A EU tour in 2007 followed. Even being without a permanent bass player didn't stop Vermin from being on the rise.
In 2008 Rob joined as a full-time bassist. He already did great as a session musician on the 2007 tour. The parties involved didn't have a hard time making the temporary arrangement into a permanent one.
During most of 2008 Vermin deliberately stopped hitting the stage in order to focus on writing a new record. Only one try-out was done. Presenting the complete line-up, a few new songs were fired upon the crowd, along with some older favorites. The creative process was continued into the year 2009. Currently Vermin are about to enter the studio.
