Group Nycticorax appeared April 17, 2003, in Riga (Latvia). The style of music - Black Metal (raw Black Metal), but the leader and founder of Lodbrok calls the band's style as The Black Death Metal (poyasnenie- see the title).

Lodbrok: It all started in 1997. After participating in several "basement" of the project, I wanted to start a band, and after many failures with the search of me finally managed to find like-minded people, and in 2000 there was a group of "Nightwing" . It took another two years, but not all the material accumulated during this time in my head, it was possible to implement. And I began to think about the second draft, so there was "one man band": "NYCTICORAX" and the first demo in English. It was a very poor record, but it was different from what I did in "NIGHTWING". Then my main band began to change, change the composition, the star of some participants of the disease began to appear creative pause, during which I fully stocked makeup "NYCTICORAX". The group became periodically perform in the Baltics. At the end of 2003 was recorded demo "Nosferatu" (release is - winter 2004) and later, in 2004, the band released their debut album: Umbra Mortis album was a good review in Europe, was written a few dozen reviews in various metal vebzinah all around the world. 08.15.2004 the band performed the opening act for Polish groups Neolith and Devilyn, in Riga.
In early 2005, due to a conflict with Lodbrok'om from the group was thrown Ashath. Replacement was found quickly, the new bass player was the old familiar Lodbrok'a for performances in group Nightwing - Voltz. In June, the group was taken as the second guitarist - Morok.

In August, the band played the opening act for the Finns "Turisas", then went into the studio. In late November 2005 was recorded a second album: Black raven ... Dark night. In June 2006, a contract was signed with the label pravoizdanie album from Russia: Musica production. The album was a good review in Russia, a popular magazine Dark City rated 3/5.
In April 2007, issued a label "Ancient Beliefs" remasteringovannaya and processed version of the album "Umbra Mortis", called "Umbra Mortis MMVII".
In early summer, the band began recording their third album: "Anima Tenebrarum", but soon as a group has changed. In July Morok recorded guitar parts for the new album and left the band. In August, left the band Midgard. September 23 Group completed its third album. In October, the band found a new drummer - Mjolnir.

The Group continued its concert activity. In 2008, the band performed at the "warm-up" of the group "Negura Bunget" and participated in the festival "Metalshow.lv open air '09", where the band first poprobyvala use alt instead of the second guitar Metalshow.lv'09. In late January 2010, the group ventured to give three concerts in the capitals of the Baltic States. In place of the second guitarist was again invited Krauklis. In March, the band began recording fourth album "Treatise of Death". In late spring, due to health problems, Mjolnir'u had to change the drum kit on the alt. He was replaced by Ognedar.

In the summer the band played a few concerts, continuing to work on recording a new album. In early autumn, due to financial difficulties the band stopped rehearsing, the participants went on indefinitely. November 13th the band played the last concert of the year at the club Fontaine Palace, Liepaja (Latvia). As part: Lodbrok, Ognedar Alto and Anna (guest musician).
In early 2011, the group officially left Mjolnir and Voltz. In July, after a four-year search for the label, the band decided to release an album "Anima Tenebrarum" on the Internet. In March 2012, the group left Ognedar.
