Biography

The first band Uwe Groebel founded was NAEVUS from 1991 to 1999 playing guitars and providing vocals. In beginning, it sounded more like a slow death-metal band in the vein of Anathema/ My Dying Bride/ Asphyx and developed more and more into this rock/doom, greatly influenced by Black Sabbath. Naevus recorded three demos including the last demo "Autumn Sun" in 1996 before signing a deal with Lee Dorrians´ Rise Above Records in London, England.

The debut album was recorded in 1997, seeing a release in 1998. In 1999, they were released from the label due to lack of funds and a change in distribution, so the band decided to split in May that year. The two other members from Naevus, Mathias Straub plays in Sacred Steel, Oliver Grosshans now plays in My Darkest Hate. After the demise of Naevus, Uwe formed VOODOOSHOCK, enlisting various drummers and bass players until the first Voodooshock demo was recorded in 2000 with Matze Siffermann and Oli Merkle from End of Green. They were asked to do a Samit Vitus cover - so they recorded the demo. The song they used was "PATRA" from the "V" album.

In 2001 he was joined by Michael Greilinger (bass) and Christian Specker (drums). 2002 saw the release of the self-titled debut album, recorded in just 5 days but gaining the respect and hails by the international Doom scene. The re-release of the demo with two extra songs in 2004 and a split 7″ with Conans Iron Kind (US) happened via Psychedoomelic Records and Game Two Records (US). In June 2005 Voodooshock returned to the rehearsal room with two new band members. Ingmar Petersen on bass guitar and Claus-Peter Hamisch on drums who also play in Beehoover (www.beehoover.com). All three band members became fathers over the last year which severely delayed the recordings of the new album.

In September 2005 Voodooshock recorded two songs for a 7″ single on Psychedoomelic Records. "The Golden Beauty" and "Live For The Moment" were released in May 2006 and sold out within weeks. At the end of December 2006, Voodooshock entered the studio again and laid down their new material "Marie´s Sister´s Garden" to tape in just 4 days. The album was their first release for Exile On Mainstream Records (home of such amazing bands like A Whisper In The Noise, Black Shape Of Nexus, Ostinato, Wino & Conny Ochs, to name only a few...) and hit the scene with immediate acclaim. Following the album release in 2007 Voodooshock also had successful live appearances at "South Of Mainstream" and "Doom in Bloom" festivals.
Due to their family and business duties as well as the growing reputation of their original band Beehoover, Ingmar Petersen and Claus-Peter Hamisch had to decide to leave Voodooshock in 2008.

Late 2008 saw Voodooshock return with a new line-up which now incorporated drummer Sebastian Engelhardt (ex-Earth Flight, Excoriate, Coldbreathe) and bass player Benjamin Mueller (Earth Flight, Oceanic). Along with working on new songs the band played successful shows in Nuremberg and at the legendary "Doom Shall Rise" festival in Goeppingen in 2009. However due to all bandmembers being busy in their private lives as well as their other musical activities once again Voodooshock's further activities got delayed.

In 2010 Martin Stuellein (Ummanada, ex-Earth Flight, ex-Fastbeat Superchargers) replaced Benjamin Mueller on bass guitar followed by live shows in Nuremberg and Stuttgart as well as supporting Premonition 13 (Wino's latest band) for 3 shows in 2011.

In summer of 2012 Uwe Groebel announced the return of Naevus in its original line-up which will lead them to live appearances supporting Saint Vitus in Stuttgart in July 2012, sharing the stage with Pentagram, The Skull and Solstice at "Hammer Of Doom" in November 2012 as well as the last ever show at the legendary Kunstverein in Nuremberg in December 2012.
