Saturnian - Biography

Biography

Saturnian are a Symphonic/Melodic Black Metal band from the UK, formed by guitarist Dave James, bassist Daniel Scrivener and his brother James Scrivener on keys under the original name of Traces, they were shortly joined by Sam Greenland on drums. Taking influence from such bands as Wintersun, Dimmu Borgir and Emperor, the success of their demo track "Vivisection" managed to secure them a deal with Siege Of Amida Records in 2007 only a few months after their formation. In early 2008 Traces were faced with the setback of losing both their vocalist and second guitarist, but near the end of the year a suitable replacement vocalist was found in Phil Wilson (Ex-Gorerotted/The Rotted). They recorded their debut EP at the end of the year, and in early 2009 found a replacement guitarist in Myk Barber. After many delays the EP was finally released in July 2009, and Traces began playing all over the UK whilst writing material for their debut full length.

In late 2010, the band changed their name to Saturnian having achieved more in two years than many bands have in ten. With a fully formed and instantly recognisable sound the band wasted no time recording high quality demos, which led to them being noticed by producer Russ Russell (Napalm Death, Evile, Dimmu Borgir). After a month in the studio, a record amount of time for an album of this scope, Dimensions was fully completed. After a painstaking period of shopping around the band opted to work with the renowned Norwegian label, Indie Recordings (Keep Of Kalessin, Kvelertak, 1349). The fact that Saturnian were the first band ever outside of Scandinavia to be signed by the label speaks volumes of the level of quality and dedication within the band. Since it's August 2012 release Dimensions has received rave reviews worldwide. In 2013 Saturnian will cross the seas and bring its signature Extreme Symphonic Metal sound to foreign shores!
