Valonkantajat - Biography
Biography
Valonkantajat ("Lucifers") is a metal rock band from Uusimaa, southern Finland. It is a band whose mission is to bring light to the dwellers in darkness. No doubt about it, there is plenty of darkness in Finland even on summer when the sun barely sets for night. Valonkantajat tells about this mental darkness, melancholic stories about people and their everyday life in this northern, godforsaken country. Valonkantajat stands for catchy melodies and strong riffs combined with good lyrics, written in Finnish. No other language can describe the northern atmosphere better.
The story of Valonkantajat started at early 2010, when a group of four well experienced players was formed: Jaake Nikkilä (voc & guitar), Ville Saloranta (guitar), Ari Vilkman (bass) and Juha Korpinen (drums/ backing voc).
Cooperation led to studio sessions later on that year, and on March 2011 first EP, the four-track Lupaus ("The Promise") was released. The first step was taken, and the name Valonkantajat started to take its place in Finnish metal and rock scene. At the same time the brigade of followers, known as Valonkantajat "representatives" started to grow. Despite the Finnish lyrics, Valonkantajat started to gain support also from other countries, all over the world.
At the end of 2011 the new session bass player Markus Salo replaced Ari Vilkman.
At August 2012, Valonkantajat signed a deal with Violent Journey Records. Band's debut album Tuomittu Elämään ("Sentenced To Live") was released on October 12th. The title track "Tuomittu Elämään" was published on September 2012 in digisingle-format.
Year 2013 started with a new man on bass guitar: Jukka Hjelm.
Second album Pimentola ("Gloomyland") was released 25th of March 2014 by Violent Journey Records. Pimentola went to Finnish official album chart on position 46, on Rumba list album the position was 13th. Album got good reviews, for example highly appreciated Finnish rock magazine Soundi gave the album four out of five stars.
Years 2014-2017 Valonkantajat worked on new material for the third album titled Vastavirtaan ("To The Upstream"). Album is planned to be released on the second half of 2017.
During this process Ville Saloranta and Jukka Hjem had to leave the band due to personal reasons. They were replaced by former Children Of Bodom guitarist Alexander Kuoppala and bass player Ilari Kauppi.
