Armenia - Biography
Biography
Armenia Sarkissian is a singer, songwriter, composer, and orchestrator, living in Toronto. Performing since the age of 10, and composing since the age of 8, Armenia has become a seasoned performer by the age of 21. Her performance styles and training range from classical, middle eastern, metal, jazz, bossa nova, and musical theatre.
Categorized as a high spinto soprano, Armenia has a warm and dark timbre, which spans over 3 octaves, giving her ease in high registers but fullness in her lower range. Armenia has just released her first original symphonic metal album, Lopsided Moon, which embodies the hybridity she seeks in all aspects of her musical identity - lush and captivating melodies (inspired by Armenian folk music) soaring overtop epic symphonic orchestrations and heavy power metal.
Sought out by New York singer, Berge Turabian, she recently performed in a concert honouring, Charles Aznavour's 90th anniversary, in both Toronto and New Jersey. This past January, at the Markham Flato Theatre, Armenia was a primary soloist, MC, and organizer for a huge event in the Armenian community, with the Horovel Folk Ensemble. The event was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenia genocide and included classical and folk repertoire from various eras in Armenia's history. Armenia has become the "go-to-girl" for big and intimate events in the Toronto Armenian community.
