Satan's Host - New Album On The Way

Satanic metal warlords Satan's Host are currently at Flatline Audio with producer Dave Otero working on the band's ninth studio album, entitled By The Hands Of The Devil, to be released next year by Moribund Records.

The band recently parted ways with vocalist Eli Elixir, marking the return of Leviathan Thisiren (a.k.a. Harry Conklin of Jan Panzer and Titan Force).

According to a press release: "Founding six-string sorcerer Patrick Evil, with his cornucopia of über-evil riffs, has been at the top of his game with all-new tracks that will devour the weak at heart and those who try to dismiss this true metal virtuoso. Anthony 'Evil Hobbit' Lopez, making his second appearance on the drums of doom, has taken the groove to a new hellish high, and with the addition of Margar on bass, Satan's Host have taken their musical journey to new, darker realms with deeper and broader themes and lyrical content."

Commented Patrick Evil: "I think this will be our greatest album to date. Our ninth release for our 25th aniversary ? how much better can it get than that?"

Protest The Hero - Will Enter The Studio Later This Month

Since it feels like forever since we heard any news from the Protest The Hero camp, guitarist Luke Hoskin decided it was time to inform us about the following PTH news:

"We just solidified the studio time for our next album that we have been writing for about three years or so. At least, it feels that way. We have successfully bribed our good friend Julius "Juice" Butty (Alexisonfire) to record it all at a brand new studio in Canada called "Jukasa". Our official start-date is August 30th and we couldn't be more pleased with the studio and producer.

When asked to describe the new music, we usually just get embarrassed and start to sweat. So take that in whatever way you want to - the one thing I can say is we actually have more than 10 songs for once."

The band's third full-length will be mixed by producer/engineer Machine for an expected early-2011 release via Vagrant Records.

Dragonland - Update On New Album

Dragonland guitarist Olof Mörck (who also plays in Nightrage) has checked in with the following update on the band's as-yet-untitled album, scheduled for a release in 2011 :

"There has passed some time since we published a demo teaser track for all of you to hear, and first of all; the reactions up til this day have been nothing short of amazing, thank you for your continued support! Much water have flown under the proverbial bridge since then, and thus I figured it was time to issue an update about the comings and goings inside the Dragonland camp!

We have been hard at work with the new material since around uploading the demo song, and the lest five months or so we have kicked things into overdrive. A majority of the new album stands completed, and as "Shadows" indicated, it is a glorious return to our roots from at least a lyrical side; I have spent the last years drawing up concepts and polishing details about the story, but in general I can say that it will dark fantasy with quite a genuine touch!

Classical mythology and literature such as The Odyssey, The Aenid, Shakespearian drama and the epic Gilgamesh stands as main influences, and lends depth and credibility to the story. I know there are a multitude of metal fans who love the fantasy concept but are outright embarrassed with how the medium is usually transferred into the metal context; clichéd and without any finesse or depth. This album and its lyrics is a deliberate attempt to speak to these individuals - and anyone else willing to share the journey.

Musically, this album sure does not stray backwards, quite the opposite. More bombastic, orchestral and progressive is how I would like to describe the material, and we have gone far to ensure the music accompanies the epic described within the lyrics. I would also like to share some of the song titles that will appear on the new album include; "The Tempest", "A Stranger I know", "The Shadow of the Mithril Mountains", "A Thousand Towers White".

Expect momentous sonical vistas from phantasic worlds when this journey starts in 2011."

Y&T - Bassist Diagnosed With Cancer

More bad news from the front... Also bassist Phil Kennemore of hard-rock/heavy metal band Y&T has been diagnosed with cancer.

Here's what the man himself has said of his condition: "Up to now you haven't heard much information (other than about my extreme back pain) because there really hasn't been much until now. I hated leaving you all in the dark but I didn't want to say anything until there was something conclusive to say. We do have a lot more information now. The number one thing you need to know is that I have cancer. It wasn't absolutely formally diagnosed until yesterday.

With the bad news I also got the good news that along with surgery and treatments, I will be back rockin' and rollin'. I'll be getting a hip replacement as well as back surgery, which means I'll also be more agile. The doctor said that this is treatable and I'll be walking out of this place and I'll be able to go on the road and do everything I need to do to continue my rock 'n' roll life, in due time.

I wanted to thank everyone for your well wishes. I've been sitting here in the hospital reading all of the things that you've all posted online, and I want you to know it means so very much to me to see how much I am loved, supported, and missed. I can really feel the love as I'm reading. I love reading your posts on the web site forum, and, in fact, I need to hear it. From here on out, whatever thoughts and feelings you have, please know that I wish that I could personally respond to each and every one of you, but I'm not able to right now.

Brad - thank God for Brad (Lang)! I'm so grateful that he stepped in to help keep Y&T on tour, bringing the Facemelter album to the people while I was ordered to the hospital. Right now I think he's the best guy on earth!

I'll be released from the hospital within three-to-four weeks, continuing treatment, and at some point, I'll be returning to the road. Keep the love and good vibes flowing. Do me a favor and go out and see the band now - Y&T is kicking serious ass - and I'll be back rocking with you all soon."

Anubis Gate - Busy Recording New Album

Danish progressive power metallers Anubis Gate are currently working on a new album. The band entered the studio last Friday to begin recording its new album for a late 2010 release.

Vocalist/producer Jacob Hansen issued the following update today: "Morten Sørensen (drums), Kim Olesen (guitars/keys) and I went into the studio this Friday to track drums for our new album.

Morten started off by laying down some of the heaviest and best drums I have ever heard him do, so I'm confident that the new album will have a pretty strong rhythm section! Furthermore, it was great to hear the new songs slowly come to life, which they always do when we track drums to the demo vocals, guitars and keys. It suddenly starts to make sense. The songs seem a bit darker to me, and I like that...

For the gear freaks out there, we tracked drums on a Yamaha Maple Custom Definitive kit with 10, 12, 14 and 16" toms, 20" kick and Mapex Black Panther Maple snare. It sounded fantastic!

More news to come as we start to put on more layers!"

Wacken Open Air 2011 - First Bands Announced

The Wacken Open Air 2010 has just closed its gates, but the first bands for the 22nd edition of the world's biggest metal festival have been announced already:

Tobias Sammet's Avantasia will perform their only festival show in 2011 at Wacken Open Air. Just like in 2008 Avantasia will once again gather a whole lot of great names of the rock and metal scene on stage.
Apocalyptica are the second band confirmed. After performing a 45 minutes surprise set at this year's edition they will deliver a full show in 2011 again.
Also Blind Guardian are confirmed for Wacken Open Air 2011, which will be the band's only show on German soil next year.
Last, but not least, American crossover heroes Suicidal Tendencies will be playing at Wacken for the very first time.

In earlier news Canadian death metal battalion Kataklysm, who had to cancel their appearance at this year's edition, have already been booked for the 2011 edition as well:
"Unfortunately we just cant make the trip to Wacken this year, the organizers have been kind enough to rebook us for next Wacken 2011... of course if the world still exists, so we apologize to all you maniacs that wanted to see us destroy Wacken this year... you'll have to wait next year!"
The same might apply to Primal Fear who also had to cancel their attendance at this year's edition and have been proffered to make up for it in 2011.

The presale of the W:O:A X-Mas-Package will start on Monday, 9th August 2010 at 00:01 a.m. CET. The package, which was sold out in merely 10 hours in 2009, contains a 3 day ticket, a t-shirt and a Nuclear Blast sampler and is limited to 10.000 tickets. It is sold exclusively at http://www.metaltix.com/. Regular tickets can be purchased at a later point.
