Impaled - Enter The Studio

The US immoral medical practitioners and licentious evil-doers of Impaled have updated their website with the following announcement:

"Finally, at long last, the masses can breathe. Impaled is entering the studio in less than a week to begin recording the follow up record to 2005's smash shit, "Death After Life". The new record promises to be just as sick and replete with the kind of medical malfeasance that the poor patients in St. Julien's hospital have come to expect. The goresome foursome are going in with extra sharp scalpel hooks and more blood-curdling tales than before to ensure a record that cuts to the quick.

In the meantime, members of the elite Impaled G.O.R.E. Corps can sate their appetite with an offering from Chef Barfo, a digital guru and guitar wizard who has dissected the remains of previous Impaled releases. His remix CD, Digital Autopsy, features nothing but Impaled songs stripped to the bone and fed through a computer to create a soundscape quite unlike any kind of noise you've ever heard before. The 3 inch mini CD and sample tracks are available now in the Chop Shop."

Wintersun - Upcoming Album Delayed

The following update comes from guitarist/vocalist Jari Mäenpää:

"The mix has been cancelled and the release of "Time" is delayed even more. I´m sorry to disappoint everyone...again, but the album is not gonna be released this year. And unfortunately Nino has the Sonic Pump Studios booked full for this year, so we might have to think of something else.

Reason for this delay is that, I´ve set the bar really high on this album, but my equipment aren´t even close what I need to work faster. I have to push the gear what I have to the limits to get the best out of them and I have to do a LOT of workarounds which is very time consuming. Then all the thousand technical problems added into the mix isn´t helping. Basically every piece of gear has been broken at one time or another during the making of this album, feels like there´s a curse. Takes ages to solve the problems and send the stuff back and forth making the warranty changes. All this has made me very frustrated and un-inspired. Hasn´t helped with my stress about the deadlines either, slowing me even more. I work the best when I´m happy and lots of times I haven´t been. It´s been the most difficult record to make in my life. The album is very huge, I don´t know if it´s gonna fit even in the 74 minutes of a CD. The track count is very high, about 200 tracks per song. So it´s almost like two albums in one (or three Slayer albums ). But I´m gonna finish this, no matter what.

Now some update of the album progress: All the drums, bass and all guitars (rhythms/melodys/solos and acoustics) has been recorded (probably some add ons will be recorded when the synths and vocals are done). Then I´ve pretty much finished with the intro, that I´ve decided to include on the album. Really atmospheric and huge with some magical Japanese influences. I´ve also started to compose and arrange the synths. I´m trying to avoid the basic (and boring) layering chord stuff and create something really cool to boost the magic of the songs into new dimensions. I haven´t been able to start singing yet, because my preamp and mike "died", but hopefully soon I can. There´s been a demand to know what is going on, so there we have it. Unfortunately the news ain´t always good.

I wish you all a great summer! (But sadly, it´s gonna be a Wintersunless summer)."

Cynic - Announce New Touring Guitarist

The reunited Cyinc, whose 1993 album "Focus" is regarded as a landmark release in the field of technical/progressive metal, has announced the addition of Los Angeles native, multi-instrumentalist David "Mavis" Senescu, as the touring guitar player for the band's upcoming shows.

Cynic's Paul Masvidal (guitar, vocals) first met Mavis while touring as a member of Death in support of the classic "Human" album. Paul states, "I gave Mavis my last Cynic demo at a Whisky show in L.A. The fact that I gave him my last demo copy on tour with Death means there was a connection for me and fully explains why we're working with him now. I must have known on some level. Mavis is precise and focused, which is exactly what Cyinc needs."

Mavis is the son of legendary jazz trumpeter Bob Senescu, who was a touring member of the Buddy Rich Big Band. He has also toured with the Beach Boys, among others. He was raised listening to Los Angeles' finest studio musicians at work.

Cynic recently abandoned plans to utilize the services of Aghora's Santiago Dobles for its upcoming tour. According to the band, "due to the commitment required for the reunion, it was mutually agreed that another guitar player would be better suited." The rest of the group's lineup will consist of Masvidal, Reinert, Tony Teegarden (vocals, keyboards) and Chris Kringel (bass).

Kringel, who replaces Sean Malone (who can't participate in the reunion because of teaching and work commitments) in Cynic's reunion lineup, has been involved with the band since the pre-"Focus" days and toured with the band in Europe in support of the CD. He also played bass on the classic and much-sought-after Portal demos and toured the U.K. with Paul and Sean's Aeon Spoke project. Teegarden also previously toured with Cynic in support of "Focus".

According to Masvidal, guitarist Jason Gobel was approached about participating in the reunion, but was forced to turn it down due to family and work commitments. However, he gave the rest of the group his blessings to proceed.

Cynic will embark on a three-week European tour beginning mid-June, which will include dates in U.K., Iceland, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Austria and Switzerland. So far the band has been confirmed for the Hellfest and Fury Fest in France, Hovefestivalen in Norway and Evolution Festival in Italy. More dates will be announced soon
