Gorguts - Update On The New Album

Recently reactivated Quebec-based technical death metal band Gorguts have reportedly entered the studio to start pre-production on the new album, tentatively scheduled for a summer 2011 release through a yet-to-be-determined label.

The band's current line-up consists of drummer John Longstreth (Origin, ex-Angelcorpse), bassist Colin Marston (Behold... The Arctopus, Krallice, Dysrhythmia), guitarist Kevin Hufnagel (Dysrhythmia, ex-While Heaven Wept), along longtime Gorguts vocalist/guitarist Luc Lemay.

The same Luc Lemay issued the following update: "Just a few words to let you know where we are with the songwriting of the new album. We got together at the end of January to finish up the last songs to complete the album. Colin and Kevin have contributed to the album with a song each. Amazingly well composed their songs suits the Gorguts aesthetic wonderfully.

The album will have a total of 9 songs including one instrumental piece for string orchestra composed by me. The album is going to be over one hour long. It's still very brutal but darkly, ambient and progressive as well. The album main concept is going to be a musical journey that will talk about the wonders of Tibet as well as the dramatic fate they've been going through for over 50 years now.

I'm hard at work on the lyrics as I'm writing this update. For this album, I wanted to have all the music finished first before writing any lyrics. This way, having all the musical canvas done I can now concentrate on the story telling aspect. When everything will be ready we're going to record the album along with my longtime friend and producer Pierre Remillard at his Wild Studio in Quebec.

Since we're still discussing with a label, we can't tell you a street date yet for the release of the album but we're shooting for this Summer. In the meantime, you can enjoy for the first time this new song taken from one of our pre-production session which was recorded by Colin at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves Studio in Queens NY.

The wait is almost over for us to unleash this new beast."

Backyard Burial - Vocalist Stabbed To Death

Matthew "Blaps Warmonger" Hall, lead singer of New Zealand death metal band Backyard Burial, was murdered earlier this week.

A massive police hunt has been launched for the killer of a man who was the victim of a "ferocious" stabbing attack at his Wellington home. The body of Matthew John Hall, 35, was found in his Johnsonville flat about 6.15pm on Tuesday.

Police said that an autopsy showed he died of multiple stab wounds following a "ferocious" attack while he was in bed.

Tributes to Mr Hall have been left on the band's Facebook page, with one saying he was "head brewer, scholar, vocalist and best friend to many".

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton said he had "no doubt" someone had seen a person or people either enter or leave Mr Hall's property and called for any witnesses to come forward. Police were in the early stages of their enquiries and spent much of today speaking to Mr Hall's friends, family and associates, Mr Thornton said. He added: "As part of the investigation we have profiled Matthew's background, where he worked, all his friends and associates and we are taking that into consideration."

Nevermore - Bassist Undergoes Successful Surgery For Benign Brain Tumor

Nevermore bassist Jim Sheppard has undergone successful surgery yesterday (Wednesday, February 16th) to remove a benign brain tumor.

The band posted the following on their Facebook wall: "Jim Sheppard made it through surgery and is in the recovery room already cracking jokes. Great news!"

A benign tumor lacks the ability to metastasize, like moles. However, benign tumors may still produce negative health effects and many types of benign tumors have the potential to become malignant and some types, such as teratoma, are notorious for this.

Sheppard has had health issues in the past, having undergone a procedure in 2006 related to his Crohn's Disease, a condition he's managed for nearly 20 years.

God Dethroned - To Disband Later This Year

2011 marks God Dethroned's final year in existence.

God Dethroned vocalist and guitarist Henri Sattler released the following statement on behalf of the band: "We could have spent another year in a tour bus because the amount of offers was endless, but I just don't feel like touring anymore. People told me to take a break for a year or maybe two, but as I'm an "all, or nothing at all" type of person, I decided to call it quits.

Not immediately, but in December of this year we will definitely play our last show. That's gonna be at the Eindhoven Metal Meeting in Holland.

I'm very proud of what we achieved with the band, but the time has come for new challenges. I would like to thank all of our fans for their support for all these years."
