Finnish grindcore act Rotten Sound has begun work on the follow-up album to 2008's Cycles tentatively titled Cursed. The brand new full-length will be mixed by Nico Elgstrand (Entombed, Gorgoroth) and is expected to see an early 2011 release date through Relapse Records. Additional album details will be announced shortly.

Rotten Sound has most recently seen the release of their Napalm EP. The six-song EP features three brand new Rotten Sound tracks and three Napalm Death covers as well as a DVD featuring a live set from the Obscene Extreme Festival. Napalm is currently still streaming in its entirety at this location.

Earlier today, Rotten Sound confirmed to be taking part in the second edition of "Finnish Metal Tour", opening for Finntroll, Ensiferum and Barren Earth. More details and dates are available here.

Following a successful first run in 2010, The Finnish Metal Tour will once again unleash itself on North America in early 2011.

Dubbed The Finnish Metal Tour 2, the trek will feature co-headliners Finntroll (Century Media) and Ensiferum (Spinefarm). Support will come from Barren Earth (Peaceville), and Rotten Sound (Relapse). The tour will start on January 31, 2011 in Orlando, Florida and conclude on March 4 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Tickets for the tour will be available starting August 17, 2010 via an exclusive Internet presale on EnterTheVault.com. VIP tickets will also be available and include a pre-show meet-and-greet with Finntroll and Ensiferum. All shows will then go on sale through normal ticketing systems on September 7, 2010.

Roadburn Festival is thrilled to unveil the curator for the 2011 edition of Roadburn: Sunn O))). The band, to be specific Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley, has agreed to curate the festival on Friday, April 15th, 2011 and host a special event.

As curator, Sunn O))) will personally select the bands that will play during their special event as well as perform a headline show. Sunn O))) will be Roadburn's fourth curator, following David Tibet in 2008, Neurosis in 2009 and Triptykon's Tom Gabriel Warrior at this year's festival.

Right now, Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley are gearing up for two major Sunn O))) events in September: performing Altar with Boris at ATP New York and Brooklyn's Masonic Temple, but you can expect to hear from them in the future with respect to their thoughts on the 2011 Roadburn festival and Sunn O)))'s performance.

Comments the organization: "We are overjoyed to join forces with Sunn O))) for the upcoming Roadburn festival. Their metal-based drone experimentations have proved groundbreaking and hugely influential for an entire new generation of musicians practicing the art of avant-garde metal, drone, post rock and psychedelica. Slovenian thrashers Negligence have revealed the artwork and tracklisting for their new album Coordinates Of Confusion. The band's sophomore release, has been mixed by drummer Ruzz in their own Negligence studio in late spring of 2010, and was mastered at West West Side Music in New York by Alan Douches. Coordinates Of Confusion will be released the 8th/11th of October 2010 via Metal Blade Records in Europe.

Amaranthe, the Swedish/Danish power metal/melodic death metal "super-group", are set to record their debut full-length album. In October, the band will enter Hansen Studio in Ribe, Denmark for two months with producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Mercenary, Nightrage). The as-of-yet untitled album is scheduled for a spring 2011 release via Spinefarm Records.

Guitarist Olof Mörck commented: "Needless to say, we are very much looking forward to getting all the tracks on tape! There has been quite a stir and hype around Amaranthe lately, and it is funny to think that everything that people have heard so far are demos recorded in a bedroom - it is going to be fantastic to able to show people the true potential of our music, with a killer sound! This whole production is going to be HUGE and spending two months with Jacob Hansen recording the album will ensure that we will have a production second to none! Jacob Hansen is definitely one of the top names in today's metal recording scene, and when we found out that he was available on quite short notice we where very enthused! Serbian death metallers Disdained - who broke up back in April after 3 years in existence - are now offering their last unreleased effort, aptly entitled The Last Opus for free download. All you have to do is click on the flyer on this page to download the 6 six titles.

The MCD was recorded at the Positive Family Studio, Serbia in 2009, and was recorded, mixed and mastered by Sa?a Bojanić and the band. The Last Opus also features several guest appearances including a guitar solo from Steffen Kummerer (Obscura), screams from Avenger vocalist Honza Kapak and keyboards by Urok (May Result).

Commented the band: "As you all know, we split up a few months back. Although we recorded our second full-length album, we never got it released. So we are putting it up for free download.

More and more details are surfacing regarding the The Big Four: Live From Sonisphere 2010 concert that is being released on Blu-Ray, DVD, DVD Deluxe Version via Universal Music in the UK and Europe on October 11th and Universal Japan on October 13th. A North American release date is expected on October 12th.

According to BW&BK sources, the Deluxe edition DVD Box set includes five CD's featuring each band's entire live set. The Deluxe Edition also features an event poster, posters from each band (four posters) and guitar pick (subject to change). The Box size: 20.5 x 15 x 4cm (subject to change).

The package documents the landmark tour where Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax played together for the first time in their history. The Big Four: Live From Sonisphere 2010 contains footage from the Sonisphere Festival at Sofia, Bulgaria in front of 100,000 fans this past June 22nd. The night also featured the legendary jam cover of the Diamond Head classic "Am I Evil?" by all bands.

Maldives-based extreme power metal outfit Nothnegal are currently in the studio recording their debut full-length. The band writes:

"So we are back in studio after a much needed break and as you may already know, have been writing the material for this album for over a year now and the whole album have actually been rewritten four times! We have been working hard on the overall sound and the material thats gonna end up on the album turned out to be completely different from what we started out with. Due to the writing process, we had to postpone the originally planned recording schedule. But it's all good now, we got 8 songs all done and ready to record. And if you are wondering what they sound like, it does have some melodic elements from the Antidote EP and they are mixed with some heavy/thrashy guitars, everything is slower compared to what we have doing before. We played two songs from the album, "Claymore" and "Janus" on our show with Arch Enemy last month.

Kevin Talley (Dååth, ex-Misery Index, ex-Dying Fetus, ex-Chimaira) has already tracked the drums for all of the songs which were awesome as expected! So whats left now is the guitars, bass, vocals and keys, everything except the drums..."

Nothnegal recently signed a worldwide deal with record label Season Of Mist. The band will also be supporting Finntroll, Samael and Rotting Christ on their European tour in November.

Selfmadegod Records is proud to announce a September release for the CD version of the debut album by the US funeral doom band Encoffination, entitled Ritual Ascension Beyond Flesh.

According to a press release, Encoffination, formed in 2009, is the sepulchral embodiment of rancid death. Crushing, suffocating death metal doom of the lowest caliber. Named for the ritual preparation of the dead for burial, Encoffination exists below the plane of mortality; deep within the realms of death and decay. Slowly they lurch forth with their educated form of blasphemy, occult, and ritualistic expulsion of the holy from the earth.

This is the first full length from this amazing two-piece band, which is comprised of Ghoat on vocals, guitar, and bass (also in Festered) and Elektrokutioner on drums (also in Decrepitaph, Festered, Tombstones, Beyond Hell, Scaremaker). The follow-up to their After Their Temples Descend Below The Earth 7-inch, released earlier this year, this Georgia/Texas-based duo attacks with the 8-song Ritual Ascension Beyond Flesh, featuring over 30 minutes of cryptic metal influenced by early '90s American doom/death and bands like Incantation, Disembowelment, and Morpheus Descends. The album has already been released on tape format by Ritval Death Offerings, and the vinyl version is available on Psychedelic Lotus Order.

Swiss grindcore act Female Nose Breaker have been on a break since February following the snowboard accident of drummer Cyrill, who broke his back and wrist, and now has to fight cancer.

In an update, he writes: "After my snowboard accident in February, where I broke my back and wrist, I also have to fight and beat damn cancer since May (had brain tumour and brain surgery). But yeah, I think positive, stay strong and I'm fucking ready to beat this shit, no matter what happens!!"

The band further adds: "But don't think we're not doing anything. We started writing new songs some weeks ago. Our goal is the first full length, which we hopefully can record in the end of 2010 or early 2011! Another big goal is to be ready for live action again, but this maybe have to wait a bit, cause of Cyrill's sickness. We'll try to record one or two songs in the next few months just for our fans and supporters to show you that we're still active and more brutal than ever before!"

A severe thunderstorm hit Sonisphere Festival in Pori, Finland this afternoon (Sunday 8th) at approximately 16h00. Strong gusts of freak wind damaged the stages and knocked down tents and fences. Approximately 40 people were injured, two of them seriously so. The injured people are currently receiving treatment in a hospital.

Sonisphere Festival series producer Stuart Galbraith said: "Our first thoughts go out to the injured people and we sincerely hope they will have a full recovery."

The second stage was damaged beyond repair and to guarantee the safety of the audience, artists and crew the authorities closed the stage. The storm damaged Mötley Crüe's equipment behind repair, forcing their show to be unfortunately cancelled. Iggy Pop did play, performing an acoustic four-track set on the main stage, while the Sonisphere crew worked hard behind the scenes to dry everything out and make repairs to damage across the site.

Having borrowed kit from Slayer, Alice Cooper is performing a full set on the main stage and Iron Maiden's show will also perform a full set, going on stage at approximately 21h50 and playing until approximately 23h50. The police and city authorities have agreed to allow Iron Maiden to finish later than originally planned.

"We're doing everything we can to ensure that the show can take place. The show will run so long as it can run safely." said Stuart Galbraith.

A speedy recovery to those injured! We can only hope the attending Metal Storm crowd is alright.

As reported, the Sonisphere Finland festival was surprised by a severe thunderstorm this weekend causing major damages to the festival area. Several festival-goers got injured. But now, the devastating news has reached us that one of the casualties has succumbed to his injuries and died in the hospital today. ..

"We have just received news that the 50-year old male that was critically injured during the freak storm at Sonisphere has passed away. We are obviously shocked and devastated and would like to offer our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victim - the thoughts of Team Sonisphere, Iron Maiden and all Sonisphere fans are with you."

According to the officers, some object hit the man on his head.
