Behemoth - Enters The Studio; Reveals New Album Title

Polish extreme metal titans Behemoth entered the studio this week (December 11) to begin tracking their much-anticipated new album, "The Apostasy" (thesaurus definition of the word: the state of having rejected your religious beliefs or your political party or a cause ) which is currently set for a summer release. The new effort will be recorded in the band's hometown with mainman Nergal and longtime sound engineer Malta in the producer's chair.

Nergal (vocals, guitars) checks in with the following report: "We just demoed the whole new album and have 11 songs plus intro ready to go. It all sounds huge and our sound has never been this intense, while being very epic and catchy at the same time. It has all the Behemoth trademarks enriched with some fresh ideas. I guarantee some people are going to be surprised! Some songtitles include: 'Prometherion', 'Pazuzu (The Desert Storms Bringing)', 'Slaying The Prophets Ov Isa', 'Rome 64 E.V.', 'Arcana Hereticae', 'At The Left Hand Ov God', with more to follow. The recording sessions for 'The Apostasy' will take place in our hometown, Gdansk, in one of the best-equipped studios in Poland, Radio Gdansk. It has an old-school analogue Studer 24-track machine, which gives super unique tone to drum sound. I simply love it. It has the best mixing console, pre-amps and other shit available nowadays.

"It's no secret that Behemoth have been one of the busiest bands in the scene for last two years. We completed over 300 shows in support to our last record, 'Demigod', and have been in front of people's faces for a long time, so I felt that it was necessary to take a break. I thought that all of this activity might be too much, even for die-hard fans. I decided to focus on song writing and nothing else. I pretty much isolated myself from the whole scene for a few months and ultimately created a new record that is destined to become the definitive Behemoth release.

Behemoth - Drummer Twists Ankle; Band Cancels Festival Dates

Drummer Inferno of the Polish black metallers Behemoth has twisted his ankle, which has made him unable to walk. Shortly after he was transported to the hospital, the group's mainman, Nergal, issued the following statement:

"The accident happened right before we were about to take off to Belgium, to play at Vlamrock fest. His leg was put in plaster which makes him unable to walk. Fortunately, his ankle isn't broken, but he won't be able to perform for the coming weeks. We are pissed off but there's nothing we can do about it. Behemoth is known for NOT canceling any shows, but this shit went beyond our control. We wanna apologize to all the fans and festival organizers and promise to come back as soon as possible and make it all up to you the best we can!"

The affected dates are as follows:

Aug. 26 - Vlamrock Festival, Belgium
Sep. 09 - Precursors of Eternity, Austria

Behemoth is expected to begin work on the follow-up to 2004's "Demigod" later in the year. Nergal previously said about the new material to MetalEater.com, "It's fast; it's technical; it's fuckin' catchy; it's everything, you know. It's heavy, more like mid-tempo, slow songs. I can't say yet, but it's going to be a crazy record ? and hopefully the best one."

Behemoth - Working On New Material

Having recently completed the second leg of their Polish tour in support of the Demigod album, Behemoth frontman Nergal has checked in with the following update:

"It was simply a blast. Touring with such a company and playing in front of packed venues was a perfect ending for this never ending tour. I loved the fact that we also finally played a decent crowd and a nice venue in our hometown. I'm sure that none everyone who saw us in action wasn't disappointed. We gave our very fuckin' best and it feels to good to see you guys gave so much inreturn! Moreover, sharing stage with Virgin Snatch, Hermh and Corruption was an awesome experience and the whole tour turned out to be a massive success.

After few days off we are slowly moving on with the new stuff. It's all in the very early stages but the ideas are shaping up real fast. I've been thinking about this new concept for more than a year now and it's high time to get things revealed. There are some basic themes we put together before the last U.S. tour and it sounded massive. Last couple of days I've been jamming out some newest stuff and it's...just insane: heavy and epic. Some of the ideas are insanely fast and technical but we also started a slow, more epic one, which sounds amazing to me. Today we recorded one of these new tracks and...I'm blown away. There's definitely 100% Behemoth vibe in it: vital and evil but there's also something new and fresh in these tunes! I'm sure all those who loved Demigod will dig the new shit. I'll keep you posted!

My laptop is full of drafts tho no finished lyrics are ready yet. Last year I visited so many exotic places and it definitely had some strong impact on me, my views and this will be reflected in the lyrics for sure. In summer 2005 e.v. I took a trip to Kathmandu, in Nepal where I had time of my life. I went for a trek in the Himalaya mountains where my only company where books by Peter J. Carroll, Deepack Chopra and Carlos Castaneda...no music, no civilization, almost no people around (since it was a raining period in Nepal). I made lots of notes and comments. Wandering from temple to temple I got inspired by Khali cult which surprisingly is very active in this country. Khali temple is right in the centre of Kathamndu and people regularly make sacrifices and pray to this goddess of death and destruction. Among many weird places I visited, I attended a Tibetan mass in the 'temple of monkeys' which was a very cathartic experience. Some of the mantras I recorded and don't be surprised when you hear some of this crazy shit in the background of the new songs, ha ha. Pretty much every other place I've been to lately, be it Israel (Jerusalem), Mexico (the pyramids) or Haga Sophia in Turkey made a strong impact on me and there's gonna be several relations to these subjects in my lyrics. Behemoth is going even more multi-cultural. Wait and be surprised...ha ha."

Polish black metallers BEHEMOTH have finished filming a video for the track "Conquer All" off their upcoming CD, "Demigod". "We worked with Joanna Rechnio, one of the most talented Polish video producers," BEHEMOTH frontman Nergal said in a statement. "The whole filming session took us about 11 hours and I believe we did a great job. It's for sure the best thing we have done so far."
"Demigod" was mixed by BEHEMOTH frontman Nergal and producer Daniel Bergstrand (MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES) at Dug-Out studios in Uppsala, Sweden. Mastering duties were handled at the Cutting Room studios in Stockholm. A guest appearance by NILE's Karl Sanders is included in the track "Xul".
"Demigod" is tentatively scheduled for release this fall on Regain Records in Europe, Mystic Records in Poland, Raven Music in Israel and Irond in Russia. A U.S. release is planned for early 2005.

Behemoth post 2 sound clips from upcoming album

While the recordings are finished Behemoth give us a little taste of what will be their new album "Demigod".
A enthusiastic Nergal talks about the new work and about the new sound, he said: "the sound has never been so intense and fresh. Bergstrand brought a lot of new ideas into our music and I'm more than sure that "Demigod" gained new dimension... It's the new beginning for us. "Demigod" with all its might and splendor rises above anything we've done before"... He also describe the album as more extreme: ""Demigod" is a way more extreme record than "ZOS KIA CULTUS" but on the other hand it contains more classic influences"

Karl Sanders records guest solo for Behemoth

NILE 's Karl Sanders records guest solo for BEHEMOTH album!

Karl Sanders, guitarist and vocalist from American death metal band NILE has recorded a guest solo for the song "XUL" of the upcoming BEHEMOTH's record. DEMIGOD, which is the title of their new album, is still being recorded at Polish Hendrix Studios and soon we'll be mixed in Swedish Dug Out by Daniel Bergstrand.

"I've known Karl and all the guys in Nile for quite a few years now. Whenever we cross paths we always have a great time and get along really well. Moreover, I've always been totally astonished by their great works, precision, devotion and unquestionable originality. When I asked Karl, if he'd like to put some solo on the album, the reaction was very enthusiastic...It was a really quick job. I handed him a rough mix of the song and next night I found this great lead part in my email box. It sounded TERRIFIC! I'm more than happy about the fact of his contribution. Thank You Karl for such an excellent gift! It is an honor!"

Sanders says:

"I have always held Behemoth in musical high regard. They are somehow transcending many preconceived barriers of Death and Black Metal, creating a music that renders futile any such
external conceptions of artificial stylistic limitations. Behemoth is the epitome of what a Metal band SHOULD be -forging their own sound with originality, fire and brutality.
For me It is a high honor, to be a guest on the new Behemoth, I am a true fan of their work.
I was blown away by the music I heard on the track "Xul". Completely amazing drumming, great riffs, unholy conviction, and a superb tightness to the entire performance that was just kick ass and inspiring. I definitely wanted to play a solo that had feeling and fire, but also worked together with the riffs and rhythm section, in a way that lets all of it work together to make a very dying, apocalyptic end of the world melody -The Flame top 79 Dean V I used for the lead has a very thick singing type of tone -and the track just seemed conducive to let that guitar scream out in anguish. Many thanks to Nergal for making it happen."

From the other news, BEHEMOTH is almost done with laying down the tracks for new album. Lately Nergal has worked with professional male choirs on singing lines on one of the songs...

"This was my first conducting experience and the first time I had a chance to work with professional choirs (Academic Male Choir from Lublin , Poland ). Thanks to Piotr Bañka, one of the most talented Polish Orchestra producers (who actually did some orchestrations on DEMIGOD) we did some nice job on the album...and it sounds...real and huge! We hired the choir to do just few lines in the opening song "Sculpting the throne ov Seth", in order to achieve something more than just ordinary sampled choirs, like thousands of bands do...I'm happy about the way the new album is turning. Wondering what fans will think of this record."

We have 10 songs in the making now?some are completed, some are not?anyway, from what we've done so far, I can easily say it will not disappoint anybody, who loved our last three records. Though I really hope that with this new album we'll enter new chapter. The official recording session starts on the April 29th. Tracks will be laid down in Hendrix studios in Poland, while mixing will take place in Dug Out in Sweden (MESHUGGAH, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, IN FLAMES) on June 21st. Behemoth - working on new album

Frontman Nergal of Polish black/death metallers BEHEMOTH has posted the following message on the band's official website:

"We are extremly busy with the new stuff. It's going the direction we want, there is no doubt about it. Songs are the continuation of our latest album but it seems that the new stuff is gonna be way more intense and brutal. Some of it will be a bit slower, with a groove...but most of it is just unbelievably fast and technical. That's what we've already started on 'Zosâ?|'. But all the ideas will be pushed even further now...which in result will give you the strongest record we've ever made.

I've got tons of stuff written though there are no final versions of the lyrics for 'Demigod'," he continued. "But one thing is certain. It's all about things we experience in our lives... I think I'm not far from the truth if I say that it's gonna have the most vital energy of all the albums, with a very powerful and mighty approach to it. Some of the lyrics I'm working on right now have titles such as: 'XUL', 'Babylon 2004 e.v.', 'Sculpturing the Throne ov Seth'. There's also gonna be a song called 'Conquer All' which title speaks for itself. It's about how much we strive for greatness in our lives, compromising with nobody. It tells how much pain it takes to transgress into new beings, by leaving all the shit behind and taking only what's good and valuable. It's...all that gave me so much strength and self-confidence. I push myself thru snow and rain but in the end of the day I will get exactly what I want. The best of all there is..."

Behemoth set title for new album

According to a posting on their website (www.behemoth.metalkings.com), BEHEMOTH have begun working on new material under the working title Demigod, due out in late 2004 through Regain Records (Europe), Century Media (North America and South America) and Mystic (Poland).

The follow-up to 2002's Zos Kia Cultus - Here And Beyond will feature the following lineup: Nergal- guitars and vocals, Inferno - drums and Seth - bass, guitars.

"2003 was probably the most hard working period in band's history," Nergal commented. "Especially the US leg of Zos Kia tour, more than 60 shows that we played, was a breaking point for Behemoth. We took a very short break after last shows, and now we focus totally on writing."

"I'm very excited about new songs" says Nergal. "We've just started working on new songs, and developing ideas and riffs I've been working on for the last few months. It's just insane, I can tell you. This new stuff is going to be so much ahead of what we've done before. We've never reached such an intense point. The working title for our seventh album is Demigod and this should tell you everything about what it will sound like. With no doubt it's gonna be the most devastating, technical and crushing record we've ever come up with! New riffs just flow, the working atmosphere is just perfect. We've got so much new inspiration lately. It will all have strong impact on what you will hear on Demigod."

Behemoth is also planning to finally complete mixing of their first official DVD.

"Well, it's highly possible that we will release long time planned DVD this year," Nergal adds. "We have some labels interested in putting it out. We have hours and hours of materials, two professionally filmed shows, video clips and tons of really extreme stuff to be featured. It's gonna be the quality, great DVD material, totally authorized by the band, unlike the shitty DVD, The Art Of Rebellion, that we consider as a bootleg release."

In other news, before Behemoth enter the studio in April, they will invade Israel and do one exclusive show for the first time ever. In March they will be playing two shows in Greece with CARPATHIAN FOREST.

Behemoth

Polish black/death metallers BEHEMOTH have extended their contract with Olympic Recordings. The group have already commenced the songwriting process for their highly anticipated new album and will enter the studio in early spring with hopes for a late 2004 release.

This has been a breakthrough year for BEHEMOTH, who made their U.S. live debut at the New Jersey March Metal Meltdown festival, which served as the kickoff date for an extensive nationwide tour alongside DEICIDE and AMON AMARTH. From there, they appeared on the first three dates of the now-infamous "Metal Gods" tour headlined by HALFORD and TESTAMENT, as well as the inaugural "Blackest of the Black" festivals (also featuring DANZIG, SUPERJOINT RITUAL, OPETH, NILE and LACUNA COIL). BEHEMOTH capped off the year supporting SIX FEET UNDER on the "Un-Natural Born Killers" tour, and with the release of the limited-edition "Conjuration" EP, featuring one new song, two covers and several live tracks.

Nergal (vocals/guitars) recently checked in with the following update: "At the moment we are taking a short break before we strike again in a few days. After doing 31 dates with SIX FEET UNDER, SKINLESS and AS I LAY DYING we decided to stay a few weeks in LA. to take care of some important stuff. We are proud to announce that we finally signed a new two-album deal with Olympic Recordings for North and South America. It gives us a lot of opportunities for the future and from what we've experienced so far, the label does its best to push the band really hard. Now we are focusing on rehearsing the new set for the three last shows this year with EXHUMED and RISE and this time we're gonna play a longer set. There will be two shows in California and one in Mexico, and I'm sure it will be killer! See ya all there!!!"
