Cynic - Announce New Touring Guitarist

The reunited Cyinc, whose 1993 album "Focus" is regarded as a landmark release in the field of technical/progressive metal, has announced the addition of Los Angeles native, multi-instrumentalist David "Mavis" Senescu, as the touring guitar player for the band's upcoming shows.

Cynic's Paul Masvidal (guitar, vocals) first met Mavis while touring as a member of Death in support of the classic "Human" album. Paul states, "I gave Mavis my last Cynic demo at a Whisky show in L.A. The fact that I gave him my last demo copy on tour with Death means there was a connection for me and fully explains why we're working with him now. I must have known on some level. Mavis is precise and focused, which is exactly what Cyinc needs."

Mavis is the son of legendary jazz trumpeter Bob Senescu, who was a touring member of the Buddy Rich Big Band. He has also toured with the Beach Boys, among others. He was raised listening to Los Angeles' finest studio musicians at work.

Cynic recently abandoned plans to utilize the services of Aghora's Santiago Dobles for its upcoming tour. According to the band, "due to the commitment required for the reunion, it was mutually agreed that another guitar player would be better suited." The rest of the group's lineup will consist of Masvidal, Reinert, Tony Teegarden (vocals, keyboards) and Chris Kringel (bass).

Kringel, who replaces Sean Malone (who can't participate in the reunion because of teaching and work commitments) in Cynic's reunion lineup, has been involved with the band since the pre-"Focus" days and toured with the band in Europe in support of the CD. He also played bass on the classic and much-sought-after Portal demos and toured the U.K. with Paul and Sean's Aeon Spoke project. Teegarden also previously toured with Cynic in support of "Focus".

According to Masvidal, guitarist Jason Gobel was approached about participating in the reunion, but was forced to turn it down due to family and work commitments. However, he gave the rest of the group his blessings to proceed.

Cynic will embark on a three-week European tour beginning mid-June, which will include dates in U.K., Iceland, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Austria and Switzerland. So far the band has been confirmed for the Hellfest and Fury Fest in France, Hovefestivalen in Norway and Evolution Festival in Italy. More dates will be announced soon

Vader - Begin Work On 25th Anniversary Album

Vader have entered Hertz Studio to begin recording their as-yet-untitled 25th Anniversary album, which is due to feature "25 songs presenting the two last decades of Vader's history, some rare tracks and specials" Frontman Peter Wiwczarek has issued the following studio update:

"Me and Daray arrived to the Hertz Studio on March 15th to start recordings of an album, which is very special indeed. This is gonna be 25 songs taken from Vader's early records. We put an attention mostly on The Ultimate Incantation, De Profundis, Black To The Blind or Litany; also mini albums released in between. 2008 is the year when Vader took its name and started to exist as a band. With such an unusual material we'd like to enjoy the anniversary and close up the early days of Vader to the newest generation of our die-hard Fans. For a first time the songs from so different produced records will be available on one album. All the songs we will make from the scratch, so they'll sound more fresh with more or less re-arranged. Of course- we're gonna put some never-ever released very old stuff but... this is 'top secret' at the moment. Interesting might be also guests from (the) world's metal scene, who will appear on the album on various songs. They are our friends and brothers-in-arms, who already made a lot for metal. What can I add is, that we plan to do special edition of the album including video shots from very early days or photo album with never released old picturies specially chosen for this anniversary release. Lottsa work, lottsa memories... but first of all a lot of Total Massacre from over two decades of creation of unholy Metal Madness !!!! We start today..."

A complete studio report can be see here - http://www.vader.pl/news-e.html

Blaze - Mainman Parts Ways With Touring Lineup

Former Iron Maiden/Wolfbane singer Blaze Bayley has parted ways with the members of his most recent Blaze touring lineup. The departing members ? Oliver Palotai (guitar), Luca Princiotta (guitar), Christian Ammann (bass), and Daniel Schild (drums) ? have issued the following statement regarding the matter:

"We are in the sad situation to give out the news that the complete current lineup of Blaze, therefore the authors of this letter, will leave the band.

"In the past years Blaze was in a difficult situation, regarding finances, management and organization. Finally, during summer 2006, things started to clear up a bit, after working together on all those aspects.

"Most of the songs for the next album have been already written together. Still ? in a tough music business today ? we were prepared it would be not easy to launch the new era of Blaze. But we always had the feeling we had a great band, further being really good friends, and being capable of handling that.

"But about four months ago Blaze Bayley got in contact with a new management. The ideas and working style of this management quickly showed to be very different what we, the musicians, considered to be right for this band.

"Blaze Bayley himself decided to stay with the management. Thus a common basis for making music together is not longer existing.

"We thank you for all your support during the past years. Have a happy and successful year 2007.

Eternal Oath - Call It Quits

This was posted on the official Black Lodge records website:

"After four critically acclaimed albums, Swedish Death/Goth band Eternal Oath has decided to split the band up. The decision has been unanimous as all members of the band strongly feel that songwriting and recording sessions recently have taken them in a direction that honestly has little to do with what Eternal Oath has always been about. The band feels that as none of them any longer has an interest in writing or playing traditional Deathmetal, it would only be unfair to release yet another album under that name. The future endeavours of the guys in the band as well as the fate of the new songs is, as yet, undetermined."

After Forever - Guitarist Issues Side Project Update

After Forever guitarist Sander Gommans has a side-project called HDK, which he describes as "a lot more agressive and guitar orientated than After Forever. However, because I write all the stuff, you'll certainly find some After Forever elements in these songs." He has issued the following update:

"The first new singer that will give his contribution to the HDK project, will be Mike Scheijen of the band 37 Stabwoundz (www.myspace.com/mike_37, www.37stabwoundz.com)

This guy has a kick ass voice (extremely versatile, sometimes his voice even resembles Phil Anselmo) for the real agressive stuff, check out the websites!!! It could take a while, but I'll put some vocal parts online as soon as we've recorded something."
