To negative posters - At least they chose a very good song off new Nightwish record. Unlike, in Grannies Awards every year metal cat is filled with horrendous nominations.

At least picks here is decent and deserving

They clearly didn't know what to pick. I mean, how is that even an anthem.

They should've just cut the category tbh, it's a ridiculous idea to give an award for that in this genre anyway.

I wouldn't even be surprised if they get a Grammy considering how Eurovision like that album was. And you know, you must have been living in a cave, but Metal Hammer has been getting things wrong pretty much since the day this half-assed magazine was founded. Above I posted 2 links with albums they overrated and albums they underrated. These guys had absolutely no sense of innovation in music and even the high quality albums they rated low.

    Not going into nitpicking.

Every metalzine has their own competition and winners. What I try to meant there is music awards on platforms like this has at least "decent" winners which somewhere or other is deserving.

Decent winners in your opinion maybe. That doesn't change the fact that the last NW album sucks and that song only has the benefit of being the most decent song from that album. There were many other bands that maybe did not reinvent the wheel, but surely released something more solid or groundbreaking than these obsolete musicians. The difference is that Glam Hammer pretty much failed since their inceptions at noticing innovation or solid material, going after the trends and what is commercialy succesful. Expecting them to make reviews or grant awards for proper music is like expecting a frog to learn how to play a guitar. I love NW for their early albums, and even the Olzon era wasn't that bad, but this last album was totaly devoid of any sort of emotion. Not quite a fan of bands releasing new material for cash only.

At least they chose one of the better songs off a mediocre album.

I liked the song a lot, and won't say it didn't deserve an award. of course they're better songs out there, but it's nice that a good metal song got recognition

Awards don't seem that bad, not sure why there is so much negativity. The Plague Within (Paradise Lost) is #3 on Metal Storm for the year right now so it winning best Album isn't far off. André Olbrich sure is a riff god and Death is without a doubt a legend. Shudder is a good new song from a well known band with a sing along (anthem) chorus. I can think of a lot of worse choices and not too many better ones.

Only weird things are the awards that Nuclear Blast clearly paid for. Maximum Metal Award? wtf.

    OOh man! you nailed it!!
Maybe they thought naming it the Metal Hammer Universal Awards was going to be very obvious, so they had to think of a better idea. So, there you have! take off Universal from the name and nobody will suspect....... except God Buster!
You should send this post to Metal Hammer and who knows, maybe next year we will see new names and labels being awarded.

The word "Universal" was added by me, Metal Hammer surely wanted to hide the fact so that their customer (Universal) could receive the maximum profit from the advertisement fees that had been paid to the publisher. I am quite sorry for Cynic Metalhead as he even very pleased with the results of the awards.
