After more than two decades fronting Norwegian black metal pioneers Immortal, Abbath is back with his corpse painted face and sound on his solo venture Abbath. The iconic Norwegian black metal artist will release his self-titled debut album January 22nd via Season Of Mist. In anticipation, he has premiered the entire album online today. I hadn't heard the news about this band but I'm glad they'll be playing before Behemoth in Paris next month. Not as good as seeing Immortal, but eh, better than nothing!

I liked what I heard. the vibe of Immortal is there but not as icy as Immortal (no more Blashrykh as he says!), but instead I have this feeling that this is an amalgam of Immortal, I and some touches over some mid-Behemoth era. Overall, he did not disappoint At. All.

I like the little horn flourishes in Ashes Of The Damned. Reminds me of Sigh.
