What do you think of this French band (besides the fact that their name is extremely cliché)? I listened to their 2003 debut album "Of Wars In Osyrhia" and it's one of my favourite epic sympho-power releases. They have a nice neo-classical touch to their sound (best heard in the 6 minute instrumental The Army of the White Mountain), and having former Dark Moor singer Elisa C. Martin do guest vocals isn't half bad either. Hopefully they will release another album soon. By the way, there's a 14-song demo available for download - see http://www.fairyland-metal.com/discography.asp *goes away to get it*

I love this band actually - bought a CD based entirely on their name (and the fact it was going cheap) and it just reminds me of where Rhapsody could have gone if they didn't go shite. Unfortunatly I can add them to the list of bands I will probably never see live.

This was actually the first time I heard Elisa C. Martin sing. I was blown away by her completely appropriate and strong power metal vocals. I've since heard several of her other projects and am convinced that she's the reigning Queen of Power Metal I love all the music in Fairyland, they incorporate the very symphonic elements very well - it never gets overwhelming. The entire "Of Wars in Osyria" album is so feel-good, yet ass kicking at the same time. I, too, await a new album from these guys!

@Deathrash: Rhapsody didn't go to shit! they just got 'less interesting'.....the music's still good. But anyway, back on topic! Fairyland......definately the most feminine band name i've ever heard! . But wow i quite like them really! As said above by shadowlady, "it's sooo power metal"! They are the only French band i like

Well, I simply love "Of Wars in Osyrhia" I have to say, they are the new Rhapsody. I don't say Rhapsody has gone to shit, but they're not that good now. And Fairyland has some sort of teh same structure: a fantasy context, tons of keyboards, awesome band. Hope the y keep on with the good work

But still i think that Rhapsody are Rhapsody and Fairyland aren't Rhopsody. Fairyland is a good symphonic power metal and also melodic metal and they have a great future but they only had one famous album "Of Wars in Osyrhia". Well i could only found this album . Rhapsody has a great discoraphy and are well know in all world

01.07.2006 - 15:25 Written by Lupas on 01.07.2006 at 09:40 Precisely. Rhapsody is Rhapsody. But Fairyland will replace them very soon, they're great. And if oyu check Rhapsody's new album - not tthe live one, SOEL II - it's not as good as teh previous ones. I think Fairyland will replace Rhapsody soon. Obvioyusly Rhapsody will always be "The band" but Fairyland is going to replace them, I'm sure of that.

I think it would be really hard to "replace" Rhapsody, I mean.... they are like the power metal imagem, eventough the old albums are better than the new ones.... they still really good

Well, they're got one of the gayest names for a band I've ever heard, but I've heard good things about their music. Plus the comments here, I may have to do some investigating on this band

I haven't really been able to find anything by them, only the tracks 'A Dark Omen' and 'Guardians Stones' or 'Guardians Of Destiny' (last one is named both and I don't know which one is right). I really like those two tracks...power metal when it's best

I heard teir music for the first time today, and well, I think that the band is really good indeed, but I don't like very much the vocals, the music itself is great. Imo, the band sounds different from Rhapsody, each band has their own style

I have some songs from the album 'Wars In Osyrhia' and 'The Fall Of An Empire'. It's great power metal and very epic. Similar to and different from Rhapsody at the same time (don't ask me to explain that!). The vocalist is great, with a strong and powerfull voice.

They are a very good band, they've done a great job with the orchestration. I think that, in the end, Fairyland is somehow more similar to Rhapsody than Kamelot or Yngwie's band.

The Fall of an Empire was definitely one of my top power metal releases of 2006. I greatly enjoy the new vocalist; I didn't think I could like anyone after Elisa but I didn't actually end up comparing them. She gave something special to Of Wars in Osyrhia and he gave something special to The Fall of an Empire. They're not THAT unique in the power metal world (sound-wise) but what makes them memorable is their fitting orchestrations, enjoyable melodies, strong performance in the studio, and most importantly their lack of filler on the albums. Every song on the albums SHOULD be on the albums!

@Chris Amber: I haven't heard the whole album. Only one or two songs, but they were great. And Lyrinan said somewhere above that she likes the two albums equally...and her taste in power metal is usually pretty similar to mine and I guess it would match yours as well. So I would say go for it
