This is a recreation of the thread from the old forum. The original text was like this:

It seems like there are several singers on here and I thought it would be interesting if those who wanted to posted a little sample, just so we can all see what everyone sounds like. It's pretty easy to make a recording. A good program to use is Audacity, although the files save as an Audacity file, so you'd probably also want to download a file converter such as the LAME mp3 encoder.

However, there is another way to do this. The first thing you do is get the audio recorder program, WavePad, located here. Use that program to record your singing. You will be required to use a microphone to record, however. The next thing you do is go to a file uploading site like Megaupload.com and upload your file. Then you post the URL of the file here.

I'm not a singer/growler myself so I don't unfortunately have anything to post (yet anything to record with) but I just had to say that you have real talent man haha! The guys of Impaled Northern Moonforest would be proud of you.

EDIT: No but seriously I liked it, anyhow I'm more into thrash metal nowadays so would it be possible for you to try out thrash vocals in the vein of Overkill and such?

Hey, thanks! Also, I do plan on recording another piece in the vein of Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth, I'm really good at doing those kinds of vocals.

Sounds pretty.. evil

But seriously, you gotta make your voice more powerfull. You have a good rotten sound, but you need to get it more.. aloud.. tear your mouth apart!!

I don't agree with you there. It is easy to growl, but it is quite hard to perform a real deep low grunt. Or an intense high screech. Anyone can do something in the middle, but to reach the outters is quite hard.

It is not easy to reach the low and high points when singing either, and if you are doing clean vocals with such then you must also have good voice. All in all real singing is harder to do.

Yes, that's probably true. But don't think a good growl is easy!

I'm back, and this time I recorded myself singing along to Iniquity. I apologize if I sound like a nerd, that's because I am one.

Ok, I'm trying to upload using Rapid-share now. I'll update this post when it's ready.

EDIT: Come to think of it, the reason your download wasn't working was because the first file was too big. I'll try to compress it.

EDIT: Ok, I compressed the file, it should download correctly now. Check here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TAV0948F

I could baritone, I used to sing operatic, the lowest note I reached was a D or D#, sounded damn good when you have altos harmonizing with you. I hate counter tenor voices, I think that they are gay as hell, some tenor voices kick ass like in power metal. Growling in low notes is pretty easy, IMO but to actually growl with a loud voice enough that a mic can pick up is hard.

Haha, cool that someone remade this thread, I was pretty happy with how many people posted on the old one.
For Tarja's birthday project, Sylvera, who's giving it to her, asked me to sing a Nightwish song, so I did Walking in the Air. I was just getting over a cold so I'm not entirely pleased with it, but whatever.

Here is my cover of Burzum's "War" that I just recorded this mornin after I got in from work. I go a bit quiet and fuck up on the last verse cos I can never get that bit right for some reason... oh well... I tried! This is just to see what other BM fans on here think of my vocals. Also... I'm crap on guitar and even worse on drums... so the solo is really badly improvised and I use Acoustica Beatcraft for the drum track.

I've got loads of me own stuff written but I'm not gonna start recording it until I get me new amp, which will be in September.

And this is a part of "Painting My Horror" from Arcturus:

These were recorded at home, so the quality is not the best.
I'm a baritone btw, closer to tenor than bass.

Dude, imay be an asshole, but that doesn't sound like you doing the chant - it souns like a quire made of at least 10 people! Unless you did the singing in all the octaves and then layered them, but the quality is amazing!
So c'mon dude, what's with this mp3, did you sing along to the original song or what?

I did sing in all octaves, and layered them (just like Hansi Kürsch on the original of this song). There are 6 layers. Btw it doesn't require too much range, because the highest part is in falsetto.

This is a video of me singing Eva by Nightwish. I'm terribly nervous and I swear to you that I am less nervous in front of people than a video camera. Also I don't have the control and power that I get from standing and singing...but I didn't have a proper tripod for my video camera. Let me know what you think!

Cool, i didnt knew such a topic exists here

i am trying to sing quite a lot, sometimes it sounds better, sometimes worse...i guess i dont know exactly how to expertly name my vocal type - it is simply some kind of harsh voice fitting for BM...currently there are two works i am really not ashamed of sharing:

first - my own lyrics performed together with Dimmu Borgir's instrumental Perfection Or Vanity
http://ellrohir.xf.cz/valhalla/PerfectionOrVanityCover.mp3

second - completely my own arrangement we are going to use for Ennorath (one day when i found reliable guitarist and/or other musicians)...forgive the bad instrumental quality - it is just what i made with Guitar Pro...but this topic is about singing

really? go do a half hour set and make sure to keep your projection up really high, your tone really solid, get those deep sounds low, get the high ones ripping out ear drums ...and dont cough, hack up anything, dry heave etc. and talk solidly between all songs. record yourself doing this, then you can talk crap *wink* oh yea and make sure to throw in some gutteral pig squeals

Forgot to add this side note. i am a vocalist amongst other things. i do not have any recordings currently, but ill see what i can cook up, currently i dont have a workign mic to plug into the computer nor an adaptar for the regular mics. i can try recording with my digital camera but who knows the quality that will produce sound wise, it might record visually in HD but not audio hah.

first off, dont be nervous! ok im a bluntly honest person so here goes...
one you have a nice melodic touch, a very small bit of vibrato which is nice, you could even add more vibrato sometimes when singing songs just be careful because using too much vibrato is "gaudy" like an old woman wearing tons of fake diamonds haha, but good vibrato adds something nice. as for range i think you could actually go higher then you are allowing yourself, that may be out of nervousness and sitting down , when yous it you restrict your diaaphragm (sp) unless you sit up very straight etc... try singing a song sitting, then sing the same song standing and you will notice a difference in projection and solidity..i know solidity does not make any sense haha, its my own word , in other words it sounds "solid and strong" . just judging by your vid i would say you could extend that range up more, just let loose..go at it..let it rip girly! you can be a lil shaky sometimes and not holding it "tightly" but that is all about practice, projection and letting go and just feeling it
write something original of your own, something you really feel internally..that shows in vocals when you feel it and make it your own, then post that!

ill post osmething of myself eventually , only fair

Well, here's some scratch guitar and vox tracks from one of my songs (me doing both). It's a very ambient Black Metal song. Also, I like to joke about using "Gollum" style vocals since that's what they reminded me of. Actually enunciating what I'm singing is important to me too, it doesn't seem like a lot of people even consider it and just accept the "no one can understand it anyways" mentality.
