what i'm interested in is riffs and shredding solo's, a good high tone, not necessarily a warm bassy tone. i want it to be durable also, not something i would want to change 4-5 years in the future.

humm...to me, all of those are really expensive for what they are offering. but are you leaning more towards a strat type guitar guitar like ibanez? or a les paul like the LTD, or a V/rhods like the jackson or the bc rich?

avoid anything bc rich unless you get an NJ series. the platinum series is TRASH.

also, it might sound weird to you, you've got only no-name brand guitars, but since i can't get a better no-name brand guitar around here, i want to first try some higher-end stuff, half of this comes out of sheer frustration and maybe after that snoop around for something real awesome for it's price.

as for which is my favorite shape, i can't really say.. i guess i like LP's the most(though i heard they're too heavy and THEY DON'T HAVE TREMOLO!!), with Ibanez horned Strat in second and KKV in third. what i don't like is Telecaster(especially Telecasters), Explorer, the typical Schecter guitar shape and Randy Rhoads V. i'm cool with normal strats, though i gotta say no-one would expect hearing classic Iced Earth riffs coming from a Fender '59 Strat huh?

though i don't really like the idea of ordering from that site, some guitars look WEIRD

Peavey exp v-type ltd. its the same thing used by the guys from White Snake in the 80s, just with a neckthru
Agile-a VERY under rated guitar brand. but if you're buying stuff like Epiphone, schecter, ibanez, dean, LTD, then honestly, agiles are from the same factory...so really they are the same guitar, just cheaper
Fina acoustic- this is prolly a not-a-house-hold name guitar. but the tone is just phenomenal

tbh the color is AWESOME, if they had it in this colour i'd buy it over the Epiphone LP any day of the week

i own the jackson KVX10, and its a really awesome guitar... plays really well... and it looks awesome as well what more could you want?

i know man, i support all this no name brand stuff, i don't really have anything against the brands, and i just can't bring myself to eat my nails waiting for until i open the package to see what's the deal with the guitar. i also never tried a flying V or an LP before(well, LP once, but it wasn't even an Epiphone, it was Hohner or something if i remember right) so i'm really new with anything other than a strat(and mine is a CRAPPY strat might i add), i don't know how the heavy weight or the thick neck works when playing, etc.

nope. but i did extensive research as to what i'm getting, so i had a very good idea what i was getting. if you do some reasearch, you can find the guitar width/thickness and then have a side by side comparison with gibson 50, gibson 60, prs, fender and ibanez type guitar necks.

honestly, in my opinion, you can play metal on pretty much anything. depends on what you're trying to do, then guitar can slightly enhance that. you also need a particular amp that will suit you and your style. example, if you're a fan of zakk wylde and love doing insane pinch harmonics, perhaps the best thing for you would be ANY GUITAR with either dimarzio EVO or evolution pickups. if not that, then EMG 81/85s.

you can mod your guitar to hell and back, but really, the amp is what matters the most. and if you're starting out, then i highly doubt you'd be using your amp a whole lot. perhaps just practicing in your room or something. so really, in times like those, all you need is 6 strings that are tuned to whatever tuning you want them to be in, an dyou're good to go.

frankly speaking, you can also play metal on an acoustic guitar. i forgot who, but some band plays black metal on their acoustic guitar, and it sounds just fine.

heh, you CAN'T play metal on anything.. at least on my guitar, nothing actually works. and yeah, some bands play acoustic black metal... Impaled Northern Moonforest to be precise

a hello kitty telecaster wouldn't be the best choice for thrash metal(ok, goregrind would work as it would obviously be a joke) j/k

i dunno, i know this sounds shallow and even childish but i like the image, i know i can customize the sound like hell(i even wanna buy an active humbucker after the 6-string), so i can come home and burn my speakers(i have an amp, but it's kinda crappy, now i mostly play with the help of a computer program that creates different guitar tones, it's awesome, i can get a decent distortion even with my current guitar, which would be almost impossible with any gear setup)

i say that you need pickups more so than the actual wood of the guitar. i mean, you can use single coil pickups for metal like iron maiden and yngwie malmsteen. but if you compare them to say, pantera or black label society or something, you'd hear a major difference. the tones coming out of malmsteen and maiden are so tinnie and thin, where as the tones coming out of the latter are full, thick, heavy and more responsive to harmonics etc.

oh, and yes in fact metal can be played on just about anything. i went to a recent opeth concert and the singer actually used a telecaster saying that he just picked it up before the show and he was dying to try it out. it didnt sound all too bad. i think i prefer the sound of a tele over a stratocaster to be honest.

and if image really is important to you, then try getting your hands on some sort of DEAN guitar. they make guitars from les paul types, to flying v, strats, prs types, and even mls or razor backs. it doesnt really get much more metal than dean in terms of images. take a look through their collection. and yes, they do make phenomenal guitars.

2 days ago i tried the epiphone les paul, it's pretty good, though a bit uncomfortable, it's too heavy for me. i also tried the ibanez s470, and that tremolo RULES. it's pretty much..... TOTALLY AWESOME lol.

it's also mahogany body, is a bit lighter and has a thinner neck than the LP. i think i'll go with the ibanez after all.
