Rammstein's decline into drab musical obscurity mimics that of Marylin Manson. Both bands relied heavily on gimmicks to get recognition, both had a very unoriginal sound that they attempted to market as their own, both managed to release one or two truly phenomenal records regardless of their unoriginality and finally, both ended up making albums made almost entirely out of generic, mid-tempo alt-metal riffs.
This is not to say that "Rosenrot" is entirely unlistenable. On the contrary, it is quite pleasant and would be good elevator music. While listening to it during writing this review, I found it more than easy to zone out and forget entirely that it was there in the background. This would not be a bad trait for a chillout or muzak band but Rammstein is still somehow recognized as one of the most relevant metal bands in Europe, a label that neither "Rosenrot" nor "Reise Reise" justify getting. Rammstein seem to go out of their way to go in a direction that sounds epic, pompous and elegant; however, they end up sounding plastic and generic. They try to counter this overpolished aesthetic by including various silly brass sounds, squeeky guitar solos or Spanish vocals; however, instead of the experimental vibe that these elements were likely to provide, the music on "Rosenrot" sounds ridiculous.
A band should be able to live up to their legacy and Rammstein is totally unable to do this on "Rosenrot". Instead, it seems like they are trying to pretend that they are indeed still this superbly original and unique band from Germany that is ready to take on the whole world. Sadly, they really aren't relevant at all anymore (although their videos are still pretty cool and their songs are likely to appear on MTV and in the radio again). They are no longer making any statement about keeping a national identity in the world of commercial music and more importantly, they no longer make diverse albums made up of well written songs. This would be a really sad thing if only the music on this album wasn't so uninspired that I forgot about it already?

I totally disagree with this review... form the begining till the end. I'm not refering to the rate because it's your opinion and every man can judge an album as he wants. I disagree that this album doesn't worth any place in your collection. Firstly you didn't say anything about this extaordinary cover, that it's one of the best I've seen. Now about the unoriginality you mentioned, I don't think that Rammstein copies anything. Yes there are some obvious influences by many bands, but never copied anyone. It's just that this album doesn't offer anything new in the sound and it's in the same line with the other albums of them. In my opinion it's obvious that you're not a fan of Rammstein and Industrial generally. There aren't any stupid riffs or ridiculous songs. The songs are better than you think... although some are not that good.... Ending this, I believe that you were just assigned to do this review and did it without much thinking... In the future, if you don't like an album, DON'T listen to it!!! But don't write such things...  Friendy, iaberis.

I disagree with this review, as much as possible. I mean even if Rammstein never was a big thing in metal, they had good albums under their belt (Sehnsucht, Mutter). The album iss bad, and it's even worse, if you place it next to the other Rammstein alnums, so in this case, I agree with the review.

Yeah, as I said, I agree that it's not from their best. Did you know that this album was made by songs that were left behind by the album "Reise, Reise". They decided to make them a new album, than just some b-sides to a single...

Rammstein for me has brought some fresh air to the metal. They are one of the only bands playing strong enough music that it does not matter that I'm not fluent with German. Every album they've made have been better than the last, except for "Reise, Reise", that was so darn good, that it is difficult to better. Rosenrot is almost as good, and definitively good enough to keep my hopes up for their next one.

well i think its an excellent album..probably not the best!and the cover art is very nice(thats important for me because is that you see all the time and the first touch with the album)i would rate it with 3 more points than the review...or maybe 4???well 4 it is!feuer und wasser is perfect!!!i was singing that for weeks even in the streets

"The Quiero Puta" is genius, and if you fail to see that you fail at life. Seriously, that song is hilarious. The others I've heard were pretty good too, I can't really see what you're all complaining about, even if I agree that this isn't their best album, it still seems to be a good one...

I agree with all of this review, such a boring album. Though I did enjoy Zerstoren, and I did enjoy "Reise Reise", other than that, you took the words out of my mouth.

I think that Rammstein are a band that uses the motto less is more: minimalistic riffs, smart use of german language, great and recognizable vocals and majestic orchestration. This album is great and its songs are small masterpieces. The material is very original and it sticks into your head for a long time. Personal favorite: Hilf Mir

I will give it a 7,5 It's not that bad [Music for a elevator?... bullsh*t...] yeah, it's not that original that the others ones.. and some songs are bad like Wo Bist Du, Te Quiero Puta!, Stirb Nicht Vor Mir and Ein Lied. But the rest is very good and catchy.. and some lyrics are just perfect I don't see any comment about the lyrics... C'mon´man, read the lyrics of Spring,Hilf Mir and Feuer und Wasser They are poems!!! I totally disgree with the review... it's the worst album by Rammstein.. that's true, but I don't see it as a "crappy" album.

Don't think it's that bad  Feuer und Wasser is an excellent song, and Stirb Nicht Vor Mir is beautiful.Benzin and Rosenrot are really really bad, but the rest is pretty good. Maybe a 6,5 or 7 fits better to me after all.
