Decipher has been rereleased by Transmission Records in 2003 in a limited edition of 5,000 copies worldwide. The limited edition is a digipack with an extended booklet with new artwork, a sticker with the new artwork and two bonus tracks:

The sophomore release from gothic "metallers" After Forever is here, the debut Prison of Desire already had been a killer, but Decipher can hardly be put into words anymore!! After a very dark intro ['Ex Cathedra'] filled with violins and some choirs [After Forever use real classical musicians - violins, cellos, oboe, choir, and so on -], 'Monolith of Doubt' starts things out, the moment I heard the angelic voice of Floor Jansen I Knew that I was in love... but not everything is angelic.... the heavy guitars, the double bass and the growling/screaming voice of the male singers give perfect equilibrium, you're now listening an eternal fight the angel versus the demon! Oh, Decipher. How can I even begin to praise you? This is After Forever at their best (excluding their self-titled), and if you aren't captivated by Floor's performance in Monolith of Doubt, then you are VERY hard to please. This album is golden all the way through from the aforementioned Monolith of Doubt all the way to the closer Forlorn Hope. My first listen I got a little bored with Intrinsic, but after subsequent listens I've come to love the beautiful, melodic edge that it adds to complete the album.

I listened to tracks 3, 4, 5 & 11 a few years ago and didn't like any of them except for "Intrinsic" which was a little decent. Not sure what to make of an album that is praised so much. I guess I'll have to listen to the whole thing in order to give a final rating.

Probably the best of its style, it's cheesy as fuck, but if you manage to ignore that you'll realize that the songwriting and the vocals are top notch. And I normally don't like this kind of metal at all.

I wish the guitar work was a bit more varied, but it's still a very good album with plenty of memorable, emotional and even catchy moments. It's also one of two albums from its genre that I listen to when trying to write tragic villain characters for my stories, the other being The Game by Dreams Of Sanity. A very strong 8, closing in on 9/10 for me.
