there's nothing to say about Theatre of Tragedy, is there? i've recentely heard they're newest release, Storm. imo it's a pretty good album, with catchy songs and interesting lyrics. i never expected a return to Aegis so i'm quite satisfied with the result. this album starts a new and fresh era of Theatre of Tragedy. Nell is the perfect voice for them at this moment. other opinions?

19.05.2006 - 08:13 Written by Icarus on 18.05.2006 at 17:35 sadly it still has nothing to do with their old period. it's not electronic either, though. it's some kind of atmospheric metal i guess. listen to it! you won't be disappointed by Nell's voice! she's a charming singer, not as good as Liv but quite promising anyway. @Alouqua... well Liv's voice is not a type of voice anyone can digest, that's for sure, so don't worry, no one will call you crazy. I've heard the single and I wasn't really that impressed by it. Neither were most people who got it, from what I heard. I guess in part that probably has something to do with what they compare it to, which is old ToT. They did a lot of really good things and pretty much created the BnB genre, and Liv is one of the most popular female singers in metal. To compare fairly standard goth/atmospheric/symphonic metal to groundbreaking goth metal isn't really fair.

they didn't pretty much create this beauty and the beast scene... they CREATED it. period. a band is allowed to evolve, to change into what they feel like, not what the fans like. if people would think more this way they'd understand better and not get disappointed so easily. Storm is definitely not standard gothic metal like Velvet Darkness They Fear or their debute, it's atmospheric so they're not exactly comparable. i'd say it's a step forward into a new era of ToT. i expect much better releases in the future and i'm pretty sure i won't be disappointed.

The band that has dissapointed me most of all.... The three first albums are really masterpieces, three true Gothic albums.. But, the new industrial/electro staff destroyed the good picture i had for them...

I agree with VaronoZz, this band was awesome at the beginning, excellent music, one of the best gothic bands ever, and now with the electro stuff they're dissapointing, or at least for me

For me, ToT was about Liv Kristine and beautiful gothic music. I've heard Storm and was not impressed. Didn't sound like ToT at all.

I have nothing to say about Theatre of tragedy after Aegis, I really enjoy Velvet Darknees they fear I just can say wow!!!!, the atmosphere is so dark, with obscure emotions and sadly involvement...

i dont care what theatre of tragedy does. i like em. sure, i may prefer their earlier stuff than their later stuff. but i'm not ranting. anyways, in the last metalstorm forum, we got 'Venus' and '...a distance there is...' translated. i was hoping someone could translate 'on whome the moon doth shine'. i sort of translated that word to word, and even then some stuff doesnt make sense to me becuase there are a few words in that song that have more than 1 meaning. i mean like thier third word 'embalmer' has two different meanings. with both an idea can be created. but i need someone elses prespective on this ?

I like industrial music, but don't like the industrial TOT. Liv Kristine's departure wasn't what turned TOT into a worse band, it was this industrial sound. And, in my opinion, Liv doesn't have a great voice.

Of course Theatre Of Tragedy will never be the same without Liv, but I actually think "Storm" is a pretty enjoyable album... the new vocalist has a beautiful voice, and despite its pop atmosphere the album has awesome songs.

Ok, first of all, I have no idea where some people get the idea that Storm is Aegis-style-album. Because it's plainly not. Second of all - as much as I simply adore Liv Kristine as a former singer of ToT, as a pop singer and now as a singer in her new band and really like her voice and style, I gotta say honetly I like Nell more. At least with Storm she sounds really good and blends with it better and less singificantly than Liv did and I think ToT couldn't get a better replacement. I like to see that bands mature and experiment with music as long as they are progressing; I did like the all so hated Musique and Assembly very much though, but Storm beats them both. Ok, Raymond needs a bit practice on his vox, he's not exactly peachy, but otherwise Storm is a good rock album with great ambient, althought structurely songs are quite plain, but they are really enojoyable and listenabale and I do believe the next album by these guys and gal will be even better.

/\ where do they get that idea from? haha, from the band members themselves. the band members still say that 'storm' is an almost continuation of 'aegis' album... the band does what they want for themseleves, and not their fans. which is good in a way...sort of

10.03.2007 - 07:04 Written by Sunioj on 22.01.2007 at 17:39 You're welcome man, yeah, "A distance there is... " is really amazing, one of the most elaborated songs, of course because of the piano, but also because of the beautiful voice of Liv Kristine. And I have another recommendation for you, get the album "Aegis", I'm sure you'll like it, it's one of their earlier works, really similar to the first one: "Theatre of Tragedy", imo

I also prefer Nell over Liv anytime. The Storm album was one of the best in 2006... simple somehow, but extremely catchy. On Aegis the songs were more carefully structured and the male voice was also way better, and even though Liv isn't exactly my favorite vocalist her voice suited that album perhaps better than Nell's would have. The same thing goes the other way too, Storm seems to be the album precisely designed for Nell to sing on and her voice is really pleasing. I haven't listened to the electronic albums yet, probably because I have heard only bad things about them, so I guess I'm still going to stay away from them for a while. Velvet Darkness They Fear however was a big disappointment, mainly because of Liv who sounded like a sheep on it... but the romantic atmosphere all over the album is truly attractive. Favorite songs: Venus, Cassandra, Begin & End, Exile, And When He Falleth
