2010 has come and gone...
It was a pretty uneven year in metal, with average albums coming from great bands, and good, beautiful surprises popping up from unexpected corners.
2010 was also quite a special year for me - music-wise at least. Thanks to Ivor (yeah, you), a few weird reviews, and other factors, my tastes somehow exploded. Not that it was a surprise, this was already an event in the making. But still. Plus, a year that sees the release of two life-changing albums (whether personally or because they change how you see music) is always a good thing...

Anyway, the first 6 albums are in preference order, while the 19 other ones are arranged alphabetically - just because.

1. Orphaned Land - The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR
Soulful, exceptional. Period. A new 'proverbial desert island' album.
2. Shining (NOR) - Blackjazz
Agressively, mind-blowingly awesome. Weirdly jazzy, noisy, electronic, and most of all great. It definitively changed my perception of music.
3. Enslaved - Axioma Ethica Odini
Even more black, even more prog, even more perfect.
4. Killing Joke - Absolute Dissent
The most varied Killing Joke record ever.
5. Agrypnie - 16[485]
A sad, agressive and beautiful piece of black metal.
6. Mar De Grises - Streams Inwards
A wonderful piece of soulful and really beautiful music.
7. Angst Skvadron - Sweet Poison
Slightly weird and disturbing Valium-induced music...
8. Beati Mortui - Let The Funeral Begin
What? Electro-industrial suited for a goth dancefloor? Indeed. Count me in!
9. Blind Guardian - At The Edge Of Time
A nice comeback, after the lame A Twist In The Myth.
10. Chrome Hoof - Crush Depth
Weirdo disco fun. Or not (try "Towards Zero"). Oh, and there's Cathedral's Leo Smee on that one.
11. Dark Tranquillity - We Are The Void
Another 'enjoyable, but could have been better' 2010 album. And yes, I'm still a DT fan ;)
12. Deathspell Omega - Paracletus
A weird melodic, dissonant, aggressive and insane beast.
13. Destrage - The King Is Fat'N'Old
A fun, hard-rocking, groovy metal(core) album.
14. Fungoid Stream - Oceanus
Weird and relaxing ambiant, oceanic funeral doom? Yes, sir!
15. Immolation - Majesty And Decay
Well, Immolation. Crushing.
16. In Mourning - Monolith
Melancholic proggy melodeath, all-in-one for a great album.
17. Mekong Delta - Wanderer On The Edge Of Time
Yet another 'enjoyable, but could have been better' 2010 album. Thanfully, there's this awesome "The Apocalypt" song on it.
18. Nachtmystium - Addicts: Black Meddle, Part 2
Weirder, and yet more mainstream, than Part 1...
19. Neuromist - Move Of Thought
Great tech-death debut, with impressive song-writing.
20. Nevermore - The Obsidian Conspiracy
And yet another 'enjoyable, but could have been better' 2010 album. "Your Poison Throne", eh, eh.
21. Noctiferia - Death Culture
Aggressive industrial metal FTW.
22. Project: Failing Flesh - Count Back From Ten
Quite unique indus/thrash/whatever album. Nice upgrade from the previous ones!
23. Rhapsody Of Fire - The Frozen Tears Of Angels
They're free from Manowar, and it shows. Rhapsody are back!
24. Shaolin Death Squad - Five Deadly Venoms
Pleasant proggy album with a few unhinged songs, not unlike a user-friendly version of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum.
25. Vangough - Game On
A nerd's dream, video game musics covered in metal!

indeed. Even if it's by no means a groundbreaking album, it's a pretty good one

BTW, I think I should tweak this list a bit one of these days

EDIT: And done. Atheist out, DSO in. Plus the first 6 ordered a bit differently.

There's still so many from 2010 that I want to listen to but haven't got round to yet (occupied by 2011 for the MSA), so I haven't bothered making a 2010 list yet =P

False. It's worse every year because more and more bands keep popping out of nowhere. I'd kill to live in the '80s when there was like 100 bands across the genre board. Now there's 100 sub-genres. D:
