Yesterday I got my first electric guitar and now I wanna have some nice amp settings for various band that I like.
Here are some different sound I had in mind:

Heavy Metal (Iron Maiden, Judas Preist etc.)
Power Metal (Edguy, Avantasia, Sonata Arctica)
Melodic Death Metal (Dark Tranquillity, In Flames)
Folk Metal (Ensiferum, Finntroll, Turisas etc)
Extreme Power Metal (Wintersun, Norther, Children Of Bodom)

100% dist, bass, sugar and everything nice and you're good to go! nah, seriously it's impossible to say when i most likely don't have the same amp as you. You should try for yourself and find a sound that you like

A couple of my favorites, as far as basic amp settings:

First one is my old standard setup. Works for any amp and good thrash or death metal sound that's heavy and can work for a ton of musical styles, as well:

Gain - full or almost full (say 9 out of 10)
Bass - full, 10
Mid - almost all the way down, 0 or 1
Treble - full or almost full, 9 or 10

Or, more like my current use, which is more mid-range, crunchy and brighter and less hollow (see: Blood Red Throne, other Death Metal or Thrash):

Gain - full or almost full, 9 or 10
Bass - full, 10
Mid - 4 (and as high as 6)
Treble - 6 (or as low as 4)
