Aborted - Issue Statement About 'Global Flatline' Art Plagiarism
Metal Band Art recently released an article about Justin Osbourn of Slasher Design with evidence that he could be plagiarizing artwork for album covers, including Aborted latest album cover for Global Flatline. Faced with questions and discussions about it, the band has now decided to post a statement regarding this matter.
Official statement: "Okay, after all this ranting and the artwork for Global Flatline being one of the most prominent images in the article about plagiarism from slasher design, we decided to put a statement up regarding this. Honestly we did not want to get involved but everyone bringing it up all the time by either posts or private messages is getting out of control.
People are starting to blame the band. When a band commissions an artist for original art and pays their hard earned money on it (and trust me this was not cheap artwork) only to find out a year later about this plagiarism thing: the bands are the biggest victims in this story. We had no idea about any of this and loved the artwork when we got it, assuming it was all hand painted and original artwork for our record. Now this is all tainted with a bitter after taste for all of us, we have merchandise printed with this, stage banners and what not.
All we can ask from our fans is to be understanding of the matter and know that we feel cheated even more. We are still very proud of the album and nothing will change that in the end. Thank you all for understanding & the support, see you guys on tour later this month!"
An article released later shows several other examples of the reported plagiarism and the website got in touch with some artists to get their comments on the matter as well. Justin Osbourn has denied to comment.
