Kamelot - Debut Video Featuring Alissa White-Gluz

Before joining Arch Enemy, vocalist Alissa White-Gluz was already collaborating with Kamelot. Now it's no different. The symphonic metallers new video "Liar Liar (Wasteland Monarchy)" has just been unveiled and it features Alissa White-Gluz as well. You might recognize the song from Kamelot's new album, Haven. Enjoy the visuals below.

According to the band, this video "takes off where Kamelot's 'Insomnia' video ends and takes the listener into the outside environment of this dystopian world. Where the citizen is zero and only the privileged live in a lavish lifestyle. Surveillance over society is everywhere, even a fly on the wall can be the watching eyes of the Monarchy. Only a Revolution will make a change!"

Didn't realise people disliked the song so much - after Fallen Star, it was probably the one I liked most on the album (not a huge achievement, but still). But yeah, shockingly awful video

I actually didn't mind the chorus, but generally speaking Kamelot handle chorus's pretty well anyway. The song is crap overall, Alyssa doesn't add much to it (i'm not a big fan of her anyway). They really are into strictly having hot girls in their clips lol.

It's one of the songs i dislike the most on the album. Why use this when you have Under Grey Skies, for example?

I really like the song. Video looks like it cost a bit too. Album of the year for me so far. Looks at above posts How is this different to their so called peak? If you hate the band anyway, far enough, but asking what happened? Nothing as far as I am concerned.

I'm not one to debate peoples opinions, if you like this then that's great. I for one miss the Kamelot that didn't sound the same with every song and the Kamelot that didn't keep inviting back these monotonous vocalists to guest on everything they do. Such a boring band now.

Weird that so many here dislike the song, because everywhere else I've looked it seems to be a fan favorite.

Anyway, the video wasn't bad - a little cringy at times, but I enjoyed it overall.

Love the song, but unfortunately there weren't many others on this album that were as good.

I love the album and this is my favorite track from it, but I will agree with the fact that this is not a good video. Also all the parts cut out of the song for the video really messed with me.

Usually I'm all up for new Kamelot music and videos, but I just can't get into this song nor this video.
I don't, however, miss the "old" Kamelot days when it comes to videos. The only worthwhile video I've seen from these guys is The Haunting's or March Of Mephisto's, and I'm not sure about the latter. Proportion, people.
I do miss their music when it comes to the actual music complexity and diversion. Also Khan\s voice, but I've grown to accept the fact that he may or may not deliver his voice to metal anymore.

This is my favorite song on the album along with "Beautiful Apocalypse"... I'm not the biggest Kamelot fan but this song is really good specially vocal wise and I'd rate the album a fair 8 just like the one before. I don't get people always want the same album made over and over again? Epica to me is one of the most overrated albums in metal. It gets so much praise for nothing... Fourth Legacy is definitely my favorite. The only drawback here is why the hell is Karevik imitating Roy Khan? He does some stupid moves in the video...

The video isn't bad, at least it seems they spent more than average for a metal band. The song is quite alright, well produced power metal but far from any of their best songs.

It seems now that a lot of MS users only like a band if no-one else does. As soon as a band is popular they slag them off. Same thing happened to Nightwish. I think it is called being elitist.

The more I listen to the song the more I can't see any difference to stuff off Epica or Karma. I like it and that is all that matters.

The problem is metal fans in general tend to be quite opinionated (wasn't there a poll done somewhere and the conclusion was that metal fans were the most loyal of all styles?), and that is not a good thing at all when you have one site available for all fans of metal, regardless of sub-genre to express their opinions anonymously. Other, more mainstream music genres like Pop and R&B get ample mainstream attention, and those outlets use this influence to direct people's interests. Thou shalt listen to Rihanna, and Bieber, and One Direction, etc... We don't have the luxury of being spoon fed our influences in the metal genre, because we are the minority and radio stations can't afford the risk of introducing metal music alongside Bieber. We have to do our own research to find the music we like and dislike. Places like Metal Storm, for all the good they do (and I do argue that the good outweighs the bad, I don't know who else I'd go to if Metal Storm went away), there is little to be done about the fact that there are so many variations of metal genres here, therefor so many variations of fans, all of whom have their likes and dislikes, and are afforded the open opportunity to express their opinions.

Best advice I have, don't take negative comments you disagree with personally. Their beef is almost always never with you. Like what you like, dislike what you don't care for, and strive to remove yourself emotionally from the comments section.

Also, for what it's worth: I'm a Kamelot fan, and I thought this song was well done. Very reminiscent of Sacrimony from the last album. I disapprove of how they butchered the song in this video though, but the ending with Alissa made up for it. Up until now, I thought it was Delain's singer at the end of this song, and Alissa was only in the song to do the growls. I was pleasantly surprised.

See, ScottyM gets it. Metal is so incredibly diverse that even hardcore fans of particular bands will fight tooth and nail with each other over differences that some people would never notice. I remember during my senior year of high school (2002-2003) some random guy came up to me at KFC because I was wearing a Dimmu Borgir Spirtual Black Dimensions shirt. After asking me if I liked Dimmu's music this guy started going off about how the "black metal community" did not think highly of Dimmu because they had sold out, and that if I wanted to listen to "real" black metal music I should listen to...(stopped listening at this point but he rambled off 5-10 bands I'd never heard of). While that guy left a poor impression in retrospect I should have been honored that the president of the "black metal community" had bestowed me with his hallowed presence before ordering a $20+ meal at KFC.

Going to other things that ScottyM said, I'm also a fan of Kamelot, and IMHO Roy Khan may have been the best power metal vocalist of the last 20+ years. Hard to tell the difference on CDs between Roy and Tommy, but Khan's vocals on youtube videos I've seen are emotion-provoking. I also think Khan wrote better lyrics. Not trying to hate on Tommy, there's a good reason that Kamelot chose him to replace Khan, but not going to see Kamelot live while Khan was their singer is pretty high up on my list of regrets. As far as their newer stuff goes, I don't like it as much as The Fourth Legacy through The Black Halo, but it has its moments.

ScottyM's also right about the pros and cons of metalstorm - I'd much rather sort through so many conflicting opinions about metal than have some source spoon-feed me what it thinks I should listen to. This site has also exposed me to tons of damn good metal bands I never would have found otherwise (something for which I can't thank metalstorm enough), a list that includes Wintersun, Edguy, Insomnium, Be'lakor, and Shape of Despair. Lastly, ScnD 361 has a point too. Every time I read a comment about someone bashing a band's new song or how they or other bands used to be so good I get this image stuck in my head of some hipster sampling a well established craft beer, then spitting it out and smashing the glass on the ground because the beer did not match up to their "sophisticated" standards. The one thing that metal has going for it that almost every other type of genre doesn't (other types are jazz and classical) is that it takes REAL musicians to play metal. Even if a metal song doesn't match your preferences, there's a very high likelihood that its musical composition is far more complex than any kind of music you have/will ever compose. And to take one page out of ScottyM's book, this rant was not personal nor was it directed at any particular person. Just wanted to make an observation.

The more I listen to the song the more I can't see any difference to stuff off Epica or Karma. I like it and that is all that matters.

For my part, I also think it's a kind of Elitism, but at the same time, I kind of feel like it's been YEARS since i've said something like : Wow, this year was a great year for Metal. Aside from some exceptions, most of the albums I listen to are older than most bands. I think it is SO HARD to come up with a new sound, something never heard of that doesn't sound almost as exactly as another song/album from another previous band, or, in the worst cases, washed up versions of their previous albums.

I'm starting to feel as if Metal has reached it's peak some years ago, and is now in decline. It's not the first time it happened, and it's probably not the last, but Metal is not at all in a good place right now, hasn't been for a while and I dream of the glorious days it will bring when it returns.

Thrash, Death, Power, Symphonic, Black, whatever kind of Metal, was almost brought to the edge of the cliff by the end of the 1990's and some of the 2000's. Eventually, Legendary bands came back to the scene, popping albums like they were candy. It felt good at first, but now we kinda wish we had new sugar rushes, some we never had before. But they're not here... Not yet.

So I think, including myself, that we're becoming bitter, eager for something, someone else, to shiver our timbers, and it's not coming. We appreciate and love our Metal and all it represents, we listen to it like a Foodie likes his food or a beer enthusiast slowly tastes every taste you can get. But after a while, they kinda all start to taste the same. ''Yup, it tastes exactly like about 50 other beers i've had in the past years...''. I get the same feeling with most new music... Been there done that.

Be patient, wait for the glorious days to come back, and be ready to bang that head of yours. But for now, rest and wait.
