Thanks! Normally I do have tons of albums from Metal Storm, but lately I've been exploring Bandcamp through the genre tags. It just so happens that I've almost exclusively listened to rare artists so far in 2017.

Amazing. I listened to it yesterday and greatly enjoyed it!
The new Fen album leaked and it's pretty stunning. I also learned that Combat Astronomy has a new album out, and it absolutely trounces the album that preceded it. Good day for music

Yeah I recently updated the list with a few bands that more people would recognize. When I first started the list, I was just searching through Bandcamp and finding bands that were only moderately impressive at best.

Dude. Thanks for the Combat Astrology rec. I listened to the first and fourth song. I am brainwashed. I shouldn't like it. But their is something about it. Mesmerizing. Droning. Hypnotizing...and her voice, wow. Production is flawless. Tons of layers in the music. Gonna give it a full spin within next couple days.

Not a problem at all, man. Their earlier album also appealed to my avant-garde sensibilities a bit, but there are no vocals and most of the MSers around here found it to be pretty self-indulgent. You might enjoy that one too. Thanks for the other recommendations! I listened to the first link a few days ago and found it interesting indeed. When I get some time, I'll investigate further.
I listened to the Combat Astronomy and the new Fen album on the same day, and I'm not sure 2017 is gonna have better albums than those two. I actually think the new Fen could be an Epoch-beater.

How does Cryptic Ruse achieve microtonality? Do they use fretless instruments, or do they use custom fret spacing on the guitars or something? Definitely interested in that album if they are truly experimenting with microtones.

I'm actually not too sure, unfortunately. I don't believe they use fretless instruments. It's definitely not as awesome as anything produced by Last Sacrament, but I found it interesting a few months ago. (I'm not sure if Last Sacrament ever released that 2016 album- are you aware?!?)

Two songs in, and I'm greatly enjoying this so far. No doubt this is going to be high on my list.
There really isn't a lot to it - repetitive, drawn out riffs. Almost too simple. But the tone is dense and bludgeoning as fuck. Shit is right up my alley.

I am not sure where you stand on dissonant post black metal like Au Dessus, The Great Old Ones or Regarde les Hommes Tomber. If you like, check out BitterCold's staff pick Time Lurker. Amazing stuff.

I checked out Au Dessus' debut and wasn't too impressed, but maybe it's worth a revisit. I've liked the limited amount of material I've heard from The Great Old Ones and Regarde les Hommes Tomber. Good reminders to check them out

If u want to check some more albums out if metalstorn, check my list , too. Although it is mostly filled with drone/ambient type of stuff and I'm not sure if u are too fond of those varieties of metal.

I do like those types of metal as well! I went through a phase in the middle of the summer where I was only listening to my old stuff, but now I'm actively exploring music again. Thanks for the reminder to check out your list!
