im really surprised that noone has started a thread like this. Noone plays the clainet or anything anymore? heh personally, i have played many brass and woodwind instruments, including the flute, trumpet, clarinet, bassoon, but i dont have much experience in those... i have been a french hornist for about 10 years now, and have extensive experience playing with all brass/woodwind bands as well as orchestras. i also have had guitar/bass lessons as well, but thats another story, the french horn is more my thing. i have also done (gasp!) marching bands, half time shows and such. so im asking if anyone has any expernces like that, do share. and include favorite pieces, or venues, helpful teachers etc.... so come on admit it... who else is a band geek?

I was once a band geek. I play the trumpet. I qualified for a state wide band, but blew the chance with my final audition. Anways, we had to play at basketball games then put on an end of year concert. My band was very small, only like 10 people. I went to a very small school, and no one there would play in band because it wasn't cool enough. I can't really pick out a favorite piece of music, because I found joy in playing period. I did enjoy playing the swing compilations more though.

Unfortunately, I am not able to play other instruments, but I use with pleasure in my songs these ones, that Cassandra named.

I can't play any of them but I think it would actually be interesting to use them in a band or just play solo compostions. I listened to some jazz yesterday by watching youtube videos, I think it was called something like Coltraine, anyway I liked the music and I'd say it was very good especially the haunting sound of trompet or trombone(sorry, not good at seeing difference in such instruments ). I would like to know how to play such instruments, maybe sometime I will start to study.

You seem like a multi-instrumentalist When i was in 3th grade I almost went to a music school to learn saxophone. But I was against playing any instrument. And now I regret it very much. It's quite hard to learn to play guitar with some very basic knowledge of music theory. But it isn't too late, to do it by-myself

cool thread! Well... i've been playing flute for not a very long time -self taught- and I've just gave up viola lessons (i prefer to focus on flute). I also play keyboards and piano, which is be far my main instrument, and I sing, self tought too, though i sang in a children´s choir from 9 to 13 years. Some of my best memories related to music belong to that period, because it was the children´s choir of an opera theater so we took part in operas like georges bizet's "carmen", giacomo puccini's "tosca" or benjamin britten´s "noah's ark" and it´s something irreplaceable that you can't do unless you're a child.

If you consider the voice as an instrument ( as do i ) I sung bass in a latin choir..I was pretty good at that, now I play bass but thats for another thread

i once played the trumpet in my school band, but i wasn't that good and didn't feel very comfortable doing it, like it wasn't my thing. some time later i started with the guitar, but my laziness took over and i stopped playing. i never studied and stuff so i was advancing very slow, until i gave up. now, for a long time i've been getting more and more interest on the piano. every time i see someone playing i'm like but due to a lack of time and money, it's hard for me to start practising. hope i can start some day, it's never too late!

I play the piano...I started doing classical piano from the tender age of five and gave that up at 15 and started experimenting with keyboards and synthesizers...it was a natural move and I love how my classical influences sounded on synthesizers and keyboards...it really does take a lot of patience to play the piano...a lot of experimenting too in order to find out what sounds good...

I only studied piano for 3 years because it was compulsory in music school(I was playing guitar) but I very rarely practised piano and didn't like playing it. Didn't seem to be my thing. Now I haven't played it for some years and I'm quite sure I've forgotten everything I learned.
