I know most of you worship Alive in Athens, Live after Death, Live from Blind Guardian, or I don't know what.. But!!! What's your favourite one-CD live album?

I'm between Live In Leipzig by Mayhem (a true black mass on stage, with Dead on the vocals!), Mediolanum Capta Est by the same band and Live Under Siege by Sepultura... the three are awesome... btw... what would be your own option???

for me it is easily Judas Priest's 'Unleashed In The East' i think their 70's albums are overlooked a bit - and this live album shows how much energy is in the band, and just how good they were before their 1980 commercial breakthrough 'British Steel'

Most definitely Blind Guardian - Tokyo Tales It has a good production for a '93 live album, and it has their best songs up to that time: Welcome to Dying, Banish From Sanctuary and of course Journey Through the Dark. I'm looking forward to the Blind Guardian concert here next October.

Cradle of Filth "Live Bait for the Dead" without doubt! Actually, the album is two discs but the second CD is not a live CD. So why do I choose "Live Bait for the Dead"? The sound is amazing and Mr Filth's voice is more pure than ever. The band also play some of their best songs on this album, "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids" makes me shiver. The only thing I can complain at is the intro of the show, it could be more powerful.

Mayhem-Live In Leipzig That one is great! Furthermore, I don't think I have anymore single disc live CD's.

Edenbridge - A Livetime in Eden This is a truly amazing live album. The key element is here: high energy. I feel like I'm listening to them play for the first time. Many songs I found boring on the studio albums are some of my favourites on the live album. In general I prefer to listen to Edenbridge live than in the studio. (I don't own Toyko Tales, but once I do it'll probably become my favourite live album )

I haven't heard a lot of live albums so I can't really put in a comment with much weight on it, but I do enjoy Vader's 'Live in Japan' album. Doc (RIP) really shines on the album, not to mention it's just a kick ass album by a killer band. Vader really slays on the album.

My choice would be Helloween - Live in the U.K. It's a pity they didn't release more of that show.. They toured with Maiden are played both epics that night.. But even lacking those songs the album is great.. Other ones: both from the Priest and tha single on from Blind Guardian... Looking forward hearing Fillmore from Testament

My choice goes to Children of Bodom's Tokyo Warhearts. It's just an incredible set and it sounds just as good live as it does in the studio if not better. It was their first time to Japan and they dominated.

I like Death's Live in LA and CoB's Tokyo Warhearts. Both sounds just as awesome as any of the studio songs and then some. Especially Death, completely unedited! And the War of Razors battle on Tokyo Warhearts is awesome

I would say one of the best would be Motorhead's No Sleep 'til Hammersmith. It's probably one of the best live albums I've actually heard. It's fast and raw, and it's got so much energy, really makes you feel like you're right there in the crowd. It's got a great tracklist also.

I'm gonna throw out Type O-Negative's fake live album The Origin of The Feces as an honourable mention.

This is a tough one seeing as though there are some really good ones. I was recently listening to Pantera's Live 101 Proof and it just sent chills all down my spine, especially during Cemetery Gates. GWAR's Live From Mt. Fuji was one of the better ones I've heard recently. It has an excellent set list and was downright hilarious. Oderous yelling out "People of Japan" to the fans was priceless. And two that I am incredibly fond of, because I had the oppurtunity to be there when they were recorded were Anthrax's Music Of Mass Destruction, and Cannibal Corpse's Live Cannibalism. They both turned out to be really good live albums. Both have high quality set lists and incredible energy. And both hold a special place in my personal metal history.

08.07.2006 - 05:57 Written by Eternal Flames on 04.06.2006 at 14:47 Good choice, and I agree with you. I'm not always bothered about live albums, but Motorhead sounds great live - as you said, they have a lot of energy. The song Iron Horse in particular sounds amazing live, and very different to the original studio version which was actually very slow and laid back, whereas live it sounds much more deadly. Unfortunately, so many other bands' live albums (especially in this day and age) almost sound like studio albums with a bit of audience noise inbetween the songs. I don't like it so much when bands have overproduced live albums, there doesn't seem to be much point in that.
