Chris Barnes has been in the news again lately, disparaging “what [death metal] has become” and taking aim (this time metaphorically) at another roster of superior vocalists, among them his replacement in Cannibal Corpse. Listen well, kids: don’t be a Chris Barnes. Be a Corpsegrinder.

I will never really understand why artists of a certain genre will do solo albums that sound exactly the same as their main group.

Also that cover is horrendously bad.

Album cover looks like his trying to be some kind of comic superhero, and maybe he thinks his name should be getting more praise than Cannibal Corpse, bit of an ego thing if you ask me.

I just started listening to it and I think it's better than anything CC has ever released, mostly because it sounds far from their material. CC never had groove, but this is rife with it.

Same for the music or…?

Or what?

Anyway if you want an objective answer, then no, not like the music. I don't think that Fisher thought to make a horrendous album. Even if I take my viewpoint out, seems other people are enjoying it based on the ratings.

That said, I get what you're saying. You don't like it

Unfortunately, I do not. I do like some of CCs more recent work, but I was hoping this album would be further away from their traditional sound. With all of the hardcore musicians involved I would have really liked to hear a Fisher fronted hardcore/metalcore band.

It's a fairly decent album, a wee bit generic, and nothing special just as I expected, but has a quality sound to it, and is well produced. His vocals are also very good, they are harsh and brutal, but also clear, and the crushing riffs are consistently good too. But to me there are no real standout tracks, and the songwriting is a wee but predictable imo.

Fisher fronted hardcore/metalcore band.

It might get me to listen to give the genre another chance My favourite thing Corpsegrinder has been a part of is "Parpaing" by Igorrr. That song smashed more than any one on this album - infinite groove too.

It looks exactly like Nathan explosion from Metalocalypse. And since this caracter was based on Fisher/Corpsegrinder...

Haha it is truly an epic piece. Really brings out his vocal power...more than CC in my opinion.

I don't know, guys. This album slaps as far as I'm concerned. It's different enough from Cannibal to warrant its existence and I agree that Fisher's vocals come through more here. He sounds fuckin' great.

This is very cool! I completely disagree with the comments saying it's too similar to Cannibal Corpse or not Hardcore enough. I played this randomly on Spotify, without knowing the background, and very quickly thought: "Whoa, so cool, a successful mix of Death Metal and Hardcore!"

When blending genres, you have to find the right balance so it still makes sense, not just throw things together to sound unique. And here I think they did a really good job at integrating those heavy Hardcore chugs into Death Metal. I would take this over most albums wearing both Death and any -Core tags.
