this is an odd metal band. reason why its odd is becuase, though this band is metal, its more famous among the non-metal-heads than with metal-heads. we had a topic on them during the last Forum, but it didnt really have many posts. but i wanna promote the band, so here we go: Trans-Siberian Orchestra, an american band that plays orchestral/progressive/classical metal. most of the time they play/cover Ludwig van Beethoven's music, and metalize them. to date, they have 4 albums out. 3 of them are talking about christmas, and i believe are concept albums. and the 3rd album is talking about the life/death/the legend, beethoven. the band members come from various different bands like Savatage, Jon Olivia's Pain, Megadeth, Circle II Circle. and have connections to bands like Aerosmith, Humble Pie and Scorpions. so you can see, the band has tons of different musical influences in them. with each album, they have tons and tons of different musicians, forexample, the pop singer Jewel. and they often have around 60 orchestral members in the studio. yes, 60, which butchers the 24 lineup that Haggard has. and their live crew include 14 vocalists, 14 musicians, and 2 narrators. key word being narrators, which isnt common is that many metal bands. although, i only have their Beethoven's Last Night(which is talking about Beethoven's last night, the release of his 10th symphony, and how he made a deal with the devil, and even his defness....), i have heard almost all of thier songs from either the radio, or on the DVD that some non-metal-head friends of mine gave me, and other stuff. and if you guys are musicians, try playing some of their stuff. sure, they cover beethoven, but they use a bit different notes than beethoven. you need tons of speed on some of their songs, so heads up on cramped hands. and as of early 2005, they have been working on another non-christmas album called Nightcastle, which would be, i think talking about Carl Orff, becuase they showed a preview of the song O Fortuna in one of their concerts...and the original song is, no not done by Therion(although that was an awsome cover) but Carl Orff...and his set of 1000 poems or something called Carmina Burana. but they said that the album should be out by around mid 2007. so it takes them about, literally 2 and a half years to make an album. i can hardly wait for that anywyas, what do you guys think of the band? like them? hate them? what albums do you have by them? saw them live? i heard they are awsome live. and they go on a north american tour(including, or excluding Mexico, im not sure) around every christmas.

Yes, this is a great band. I have the album Beethoven's Last Night as well, and it's wonderful. Musically it is metal, but it's different, somehow. It's pretty unorthodox; comes across more like a soundtrack to a movie. Their vocalists are brilliant! It's certainly among the best concept albums ever done, I think. I had a chance to see them live in Denver, Colorado but couldn't make it. It was right before Christmas so it would have been quite a show. But hopefully I'll get to see them eventually.

I couldn't go because of lack of funds. Long drive and all. I've known them for a few years; a friend of mine recommended them to me along with Naglfar, really strange combination but I really liked both of them. They certainly don't seem well-known at all in the metal scene, yet I've seen their albums in quite a few stores. I'm not sure what crowd listens to them but apparently somebody does.

humm...ok, normally i have random cds on me whever i go. i dont like to shove em in my pocket or bag, coz they get cracked, so i carry em in my hands. every time i carry big bands like Tool, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Nightwish and other bands, i get NO response from anyone. not even my metalhead friends. butwhen ever i carry the Trans-Siberian Orchestra album, i get teachers, random emos, punks, people who listen to folk, ska, rock, and even rap/hiphop comment on the band. so i guess this band appeals to more people in the non-metal scene, than in metal for whatever reason. i mean, old, or young, they all know this band. and for many of them, Trans-Siberian Orchestra is a sort of ritual to be played every christmas. so its almost like an anthem to them. i wonder why metalheads dont seem to care much about the band. on the side note, the place where i bought the album, this kid told me to listen to Rhapsody. i started laughing at the kid, coz i just cant stand the cheesyness of Rhapsody. but i recomended him Therion, and Haggard, becuase in one way or another, they are more closely related to Trans-Siberian Orchestra, than rhapsody...and surprisingly enough, that kid liked Therion and Haggard far more than rhapsody. yeah!

yeah they are great but it is a kind of season music . i mean thier music is more likely to listen in the Christmass times rather than any day of the year . Well that was my impression

/\ their crhistmas albums may be seasonal albums. but not their 'beethovens last night'. the story of the album is so well written that you can relate to almost all 22 tracks seperatly. they all have different themes, yet oddly enough, they all come together in one album to make perfect sense. i mean, people keep talking about how well Dream Theater's Sense of a Memory albums is. but really, beethovens last night butchers the concept of that album!

Very interesting stuff, unique, but interesting. They create some beautiful music, and as I've mentioned before,I'm a huge Savatage fan,so its easy to see why I like these guys.Though the music is beautiful,I somtimes find it hard to listen to when not in Christmas season...just feels odd...

man, I really want to see them live but I don't think I will. Maybe if some of my friends want to go then I"ll be more eager to use another vacation day for work. I haven't heard much from them, but I really like what I have heard so far. I"ve been thinking of buying their cd's for a while now, but recorded orchestra music doesn't do it justice. This is something that has to be seen live.

Great band with great musicianship. It's a pity they don't travel to Europe. It's a pity I can only listen to the Christmas cd's when it's Christmas, otherwise I'm not in the mood... I also love "Beethoven's last night'. I heard this band is pretty succesful in the States because people don't know there's a metalband (Savatage) behind this project... Strange but typical

/\ dude, i would say 'beethovens last night'. why? becuase that is the only album that people dont say 'its only good to listen to during christmas'. and the album has 22 tracks. most of the lyrics, though its a story, once put together, each and every piece of lyrics are turly relatable and amazing! the music is divin as well as for that comment about them being big in USA. yeah, its true, many non-metalheads enjoy the band more so than metalheads. and if that wasnt enough...they came in at # 22 in top 100 tours in north america. that means they beat pearljam, oasis, judas priest, and tons of other people in mainstream... dont believe me? here, take a look at this. the person above them, at 21 is a joint tour between 50 cent and eminem. so yeah...here, take a look at the link: http://www.pollstaronline.com/sf-ye2005-top100tours.asp

I heard this band 2 or 3 years ago. Well, at the beginning, I didnt notice much even though I listened to a song that maybe was Beethoven's Last night or something on radio. Soonly, I downloaded their albums but because of the speed connection, I could only gain each track 2 or 3 minutes, not downloading whole song. And when I concentrated to listen, I felt its very well. Their music is really really decent. I ll buy or download all their album again.

hey. what do you know? i actually found her! well, not 'her' as in the love of my life. but i found someone who actually didnt like Trans-Siberian Orchestra. well, she said that she hated the vocals on beethovens last night simply because they were WAY too theatrical, and musical. BUT! ahh, there is a 'but' there. the 'but' is that she said that she LOVED all the instrumentals and some of the lyrics were pretty good. but hey, she is the type of person who listens to oldies Jazz and blues music...so i dont really blame her. but yeah! someone who actually didnt like them as for the concert...ahh, everytime i go around getting tickets for the show, the place that sells the tickets closes down, or they arent selling em there, or some other shit happens! so yeah...dont onw when i'll see em.

I just found out that the ticket I'm getting from my friend isn't free, but it's slightly cheaper. I don't care, as long as I get the ticket.

i'm trying to get 2 tickets. one for my friend. the other for me(obviously). and i made a deal with him. if i find a ride to and fro, then he pays for 50% of the ticket. if not, then he is paying for the bus ride to and fro. either way, he would be paying 24-28 dollars. not all that bad. but...that is if the tickets arent aready sold out

I LOVE TSO! I first got into them a few years ago when I found out that Al Pitrelli played guitar for them. I bought the boxed set of their Christmas trilogy and their Christmas DVD and I've been hooked on them since. During the holidays, we play their first Christmas album at work, and whenever A Mad Russian's Christmas comes on, everyone goes crazy. It's so awesome haha
