2024: A Cut Above (The Throat Of God)

A year behind as I managed to not get around to a 2023 list (so far). With a new Ulcerate album out I couldn’t not do one this year. Caught them live for the second time in November 2023. Aiming to catch them multiple times on their 2024 euro tour. Bow to their greatness. Some other quality here too.

That one is just a stock photo I grabbed off the internet… but yes I was lucky enough to get the DMP edition. I also grabbed the Season of Mist exclusive and the other one Debemur was selling lol. I quite enjoy ulcerate.

Haha you could definitely say that!

How are you enjoying the album so far and where does it rank in the Ulcerate discography for you?

The more I listen to this album, the more I love it. Right now I would rank it as my third fave release by them, following TDOA and EIF. One of the most consistent bands out there

Absolutely agree on the more listens = more love. I thought it was amazing on an initial listen but it keeps getting better. I would probably go…

TDOA
SOP
CTTOG/EIF
SIDABS
Vermis

But SOP, CCTOG, EIF and SIDABS could all flip flop on any given day.

TDOA is firmly in first and Vermis firmly in last. That being said… Vermis is still a 9 in my books.

Of Fracture and Failure is good in its own right but given the stylistic difference I didn’t include it. It would likely go after Vermis though.

I sadly stopped scavenging myself for new music because of a lack of time and pretty much rely on your lists (and Paz’s and Teamster’s) plus the MS Awards for finding gems. So thanks

Im now on my first listen of the Dvne album and it’s hitting all the right spots.

Haha! I’m glad my list has been helpful. I used to always use Neachy’s lists but he’s been MIA last little while so I’ve had to do more digging myself.

That Dvne album is real nice. I’ve been on a decent sludge/post kick lately and will end up circling back to that.

It is one that I need to revisit for sure. I go on binges of certain genres and when I listened to it I wasn’t really in the mood for death metal. Undeniably good though!
