The released tracks sound really nice, but there's virtually no "deathcore" left in their sound. Pretty much just melancholic, slightly ambient-influenced, prog. Seems like a natural progression from their previous album.

Yeah, I am pretty excited for this one. I liked the last one a lot, but their early deathcore stuff is really shitty.

I actually consider Exoplanet one of the best deathcore albums ever tbh haha. The songwriting is surprisingly mature and incredibly diverse, and from a purely technical standpoint it was immediately obvious that they were/are highly talented and skilled musicians. Some of the chord progressions on their first album already showed signs of genre blending, and the diversity in song structure with tons of "fancy" time signatures and strange rhythmic patterns doesn't come across as forced much like it does with shitty tech death or djent bands. Granted I started listening to The Contortionist when Exoplanet came out so it holds a sort of nostalgic appeal to me that it may not to many other people (especially Primal Directive, I fuckin love that song). even given that, I do still think that Language is their best and I'm crazy excited for this album

I can understand what you are saying. I will have to re listen I guess. I think there are probably a lot of deathcore bands are pretty talented and skilled, but just make bad music.

Pretty great atmosphere throughout this one. Synths sound great. Some songs are a bit long but I thought it was a great album.

I never fully got into Language - I like the title track and really like The Parable, but multiple revisits to the album as a whole (including just this past weekend) haven't convinced me of its alleged greatness as a whole package. As such I wasn't expecting too much from this, despite the r/progmetal hype. Well, I'm shocked, this is really damn good. I was fully on board pretty much throughout the entire thing, with Godspeed, Clairvoyant, and Absolve amongst the best tracks. One of the strongest albums from this year so far

Make no mistake this is a prog album but man oh man is a beauty. Absolutely incredible. This band has kind of a BTBAM / Opeth-ian progression. I don't want to say they "grew out" of their previous sound but since day one where I heard that middle section of 'Flourish' I knew these guys were capable of more, different things. Since then they've had more and more of those kinds of magical moments with each new album. This is still fresh so I don't want to say it was better than Language but I'm certainly open to it. Language is one of my favorite albums of all time ALREADY.

I seriously can't stop listening to this. It's pretty much exactly the album I wanted them to release

This has definitely turned out to be my top album of 2017 that I keep coming back to. Monochrome, Godspeed, Clairvoyant, The Center, Return To Earth, just brilliant songs throughout

I need another album from these guys, there is nothing that scratches the Clairvoyant itch apart from Clairvoyant; the new Cyderian Son album from this year has somewhat similar vibes, but just can't quite match the emotional heft of The Contortionist at their best

Synth parts are absolutely top notch! I enjoy a lot of post-rock, so parts of this album are verging on a 9 from me. What holds it back are the vocals, ultimately. They just don't appeal to me at all. I'd also like a bit more speed and heaviness, but I'm not addicted to growls and the lot so I'm not too disappointed.
Probably will grow on me.

All I can say is wow.

I take back anything I said about heaviness, this album is amazing. Everything from the production to the songwriting is just perfect, it's not excessively ambitious, but it hits all the right spots. Overall the synth and ambience is incredible and some of the best I've heard mixed with metal. The clean guitar when combined with pads and droning distortion guitars creates more than a handful of mind blowing moments, and this is only accelerated with the choices of chord progressions, which are just perfect.

Agreed completely with musclassia that this album is unique in its atmosphere.

I agree with 7.6/10 rating for this album, an enjoyable listen but probably one I won't be returning to.
