Never really been much into this type of metal but I tried this album to understand what is so special about it and I have to say that I love it, and people who like this style probably love this album even more so yeah... the hype is correct.

Funniest album thread I've read...thanks for the entertainment.
Having just finished my first listen, I can say I really enjoyed this.

F**k everyone who rate it 1 etc. this is something new, something epic. I don't know any death metal band who combines death metal and symphonic music.

Just because something's new doesn't mean it's inherently good.

It ain't even the first band do make symphonic + DM....
Not bad, but too bland. Like static, very plastic feeling... a thing I ain't a fan of.

You comment made me notice how much the Top 20 of 2011 has changed since fanboys are not monitoring daily that their favourite band stays at the top of the ranking.

Stupid people are stupid.
Everywhere I go, metal artists have fans that complain, "This band is so underrated, people don't know what music and true talent is."
Then when a band finally gets the attention it deserves, those same fans complain, "This band is so overrated, they sold out."
Stupid people are stupid.

As a huge Symphonic Metal fan, I couldn't miss this album... I usually like the softer side of the genre (like Epica, Nightwish), but after the big hype, I had to give it a try. I didn't like it first, thought all songs sound the same, are too short, and the clean vocals suck. But after a few spins I strated to appreciate it, and now it's one of my favourites. Have to check out their earlier work too. Sometimes the hype is deserved

Where are the epic melodies as found in their previous album. Beautiful tracks like Anubis, Sunlight/Moonlight, Sangreal....This album relies too heavily on the symphonic elements and vicious drumming to achieve something atmospheric. Although their signature sound remains, I can hardly tell the tracks apart after a spin or two.
A few tracks (namely Rising and Apocalypse) prove an exception, but remain mediocre best
Edit: liking this a lot more after repeated listens...still not up to par with Communion...

I actually like this more than Communion. The biggest problem with this album are clean vocals. Also, some parts of Therianthropy are cheesy and annoying as hell.

One of the most over-rated albums in recent metal history. Honestly, the symphonic parts are the best thing about it and they seem to cover the lack of interesting riffs and ideas.

The vocal sound that comes in at 3:24 in 'The Vampire From Nazareth' sounds a lot like John Haughm of Agalloch. Anyone else hear it?

I listened to this recently and just remember being extremely bored. Symphonic death has so much potential, so why do all the bands seem to miss? I'll be checking out Communion soon to see if it's any better.

This album may be boring - and it assuredly is - but the comment thread still brings me pleasure over a decade later
I think there are very few bands who manage to get both the symphonic and metal parts right. The symphonic stuff here is decent, but I still maintain there are basically no interesting riffs on this album.
