3 (Three), a band hailing from Woodstock, New York, USA, is a new name in the Progressive Metal realm. This five piece set is not a re-hashing of Dream Theater, Symphony X, Opeth or Pain of Salvation. Their style comes more from a indi-pop fused with some Celtic with a lot of balls behind it. With two guitarists, one who plays slap guitar, the other shredding, they create some amazing melodies. They just resealed their first music video "All That Remains". They are on tour right now with Porcupine Tree. Check them out!

That link is linking me to a song called 'All That Remains'? Which is a tad boring. Do you mean that one?

I saw them open for Porcupine Tree last week and I have to say that I was quite impressed...that was the first time I ever heard of them...the first couple of songs they did were very progressive and well composed...they were all in the meter of 3 too so I was wondering if that was why they were named as such...they did an AMAZING Celtic-type jam to wind up their set...a drum-off between the drummer and percussionist and the front man did a very energetic slap guitar Celtic improv while the lead guitarist did a progressive shred thing...all I have to say about that was wow...really got the crowd going...they showed up Porcupine Tree a lot in stage performance and energy for sure...

01.11.2007 - 21:28 Written by [user id=2084] on 27.10.2007 at 01:08 I think we had the same experience. As great of musicians as Porcupine Tree is, their show was a little flat. 3, on the other hand, were energetic, worked the crowed, had humor in their show, and just over all more engaging. Oh yeah, you're right on the whole Celtic thing. A lot of people have mentioned that about them. It is subtle, but you feel it more than hear it.

I felt that their Celtic leanings weren't as subtle at the show I was at...it was actually quite obvious...3 has an energetic quality while Porcupine Tree had a memorizing quality...

I wasn't too impressed with that music video that was posted. Are their other songs stronger? Or are they more album-orientated? And will they still be on tour with PT in December when they come to Leeds? From what I've read here they seem quite interesting live

I'm not sure what to think. I'm only basing my opinion off of that one video. The vocals were hard to swallow at first. Some mix between the annoyance of Coheed and the brilliance of something like Peter Gabrial. I was attracted to the Brian May esque solo thrown in there. I'd have to hear more to have a more firm opinion.

Thank you for the info. I'm starting to love this band to be honest. I guess that someone that loves Porcupine Tree will love this because they are risky, somber and turbulent. Thats all I can say for now. I'm trying to get their albums.

They were one of the most entertaining and engaging acts I have ever seen. It will interesting to see them tour with Dream Theater and Opeth this spring.

Just listening to them again and it's very refreshing this time around. I enjoy the vocals a lot more and the music as a whole. I'll have to see if I can get ahold of some more material from this band. I'm hoping that Progressive Nation will come around where I live so I can catch them live, along with DT, Opeth, and BtBAM of course.
