You mean Altar? Yeah, I ordered it and it's awesome indeed! The combination of Sunn and Boris works out really well

ive seen thier CD's when i go music shopping but am hesitant to buy one, can some one compare them to something? sound wise?

Why don't you just ask if you can listen to the CD in the shop? (Or isn't that possible where you live? Here you can always try CDs in the shop, actually I don't know whether you can do so in other countries as well) It's always better to try yourself, a description is pretty much more difficult...

imagine slow and heavy distorted guitar sounds over one hour. that's what's drone is all about.

if you want to buy something from sunn o))), buy White 2. it's by far their best release.

Well, judging from the fact that the 'Drone Metal' thread is in the Extreme Metal forum, I guess this thread belongs here too.

I hadn't thought about or listened to Sunn O))) for quite a while, until seeing this crazy French movie on Wednesday which was pretty much like one of their albums put into images. It was one strange film! If anyone's interested, it's called 'La Vie Nouvelle' by French director Philippe Grandrieux. Just while watching it, the only music that I could think of was that of Sunn O))).

Interesting. Where lie the boundaries of what is extreme and what is not? Is something only extreme when it is überfast, loud and heavy? No. I personally consider Sunn O))) one of the most extreme (metal) bands out there, simply because they are extremely uncommercial, slow and appeal to a very small crowd.

Oh by the way, should the extremely generic melodic metal bands be in this area too?

You kind of missed my points. I'm trying to bring across, that extremely slow is - just as extremely fast- a good reason to add them to the Extreme Metal Forum. And in some degrees, uncommercial could be a reason too.

I definitely think Sunn O))) is extreme. Especially after hearing Black One. Malefic's vocals are so ear-piercing.

I also consider them quite extreme. But I've never thought of them as a metal band though. Not that it matters what people call it, I don't care, but I do find it weird that so many people call it metal.

I can definitely hear they somewhere resemble metal, even though they are not, stylistically speaking. A lot of their music has a bit of Black Metal atmosphere.

Does anyone know if they have got anything going at the moment?

So this weekend we had a party at our place. Ya know, gearing up for Halloween. Well anyway, we shut down all thew lights, just had the fireplace and candels going. And over the house system I played Sunn O))). Yeah, some people were uneasy that night.

In all honesty I love SunnO))) but sometimes I think they push it a little bit too far. Anyways Id love to see them live
