I was wondering which one was the best. I tried to include all the important scenes, while I left out any scene that I thought was very obscure. I voted for Teutonic, because I like its' brutality.

Poll

Which one is the best thrash metal scene?

Bay Area Thrash (Exodus, Testament)
82
Teutonic Thrash (Kreator, Sodom)
41
East Coast Thrash (Anthrax, Overkill
10
Brazilian Thrash (Sepultura)
8
Canadian Thrash (Voivod, Annihilator)
3

Total votes: 144

I like Teutonic Thrash more than the others. They've got a more "evil" edge to them in their music, in my opinion.

That's exactly my own opinion. I never liked the Bay Area Thrash at all.
Only American Thrash I like is early Slayer and it's not from Bay Area.

Sepultura's first albums are fucking great, but Brazilian Thrash scene? I don't know any other thrash band from Brazil right now. It's difficult to choose one option, but I think that Bay Area is the most famous and known because of Metallica. There are other bands without a scene like Coroner, Celtic Frost, Venom.... I vote for Bay Area (maybe LA) because of Metallica, Slayer , Megadeth.

Yeah I can't think of many Brazillian bands either. Sarcofago and Sepultura are the only ones that come to mind. I'm sure theres way more. They had quite a big Death/thrash scene.

Mutilator, Chakal, Executer, Korzus

If I put MEGADETH, METALLICA and SLAYER in any scene, everyone would have voted for that scene!

And without mentioning them everybody would vote for the German scene, before i posted my 'controversial' post Teutonic scene had twice as much votes as bay area, now that Metallica and Megadeth are mentioned, things are set right again.. so, you should've just mentioned them from the beginning,

i mean, with old bastards holding phD in metal like Marcel and Bittercold, you should've guessed this would be mentioned

If I put MEGADETH, METALLICA and SLAYER in any scene, everyone would have voted for that scene!

so your poll is fucking pointless then.

you intentionally omitted bands that were integral to scenes because it would influence voting? hell... why not list the Teutonic scene without 3 equally integral bands. suddenly you're left with, what? tankard?

Metallica was one of the key bands in the Bay Area scene, it was their pad everyone partied at. Omitting them to attempt to adjust the poll results just invalidates the question.

No. Let me get this straight. If a user, who doesn't have a good knowledge of thrash, gets into this poll and sees Metallica somewhere, he will vote for it. He will say:"Wow, if such a scene spawned an act like Metallica, then it must be the best" So I excluded those bands you would know even if you're not into thrash.

i disagree. people don't read and will simply pick not the scene, but from the bands you list at the top.

so either list them all, or don't. omission is just an attempt on your part to steer votes.

but i still think it's a worthless poll. the Bay Area thing was one scene with a ton of bands that played and partied together. you're comparing one city against countries. the Bay Area was a legit scene. somehow i don't think Canada was a scene. Montreal might have had a scene. Calgary might have had a scene, but they aren't the same scene. are Sodom, Kreator, and Destruction all from the same city?

If you dig you can find a lot of bands from anywhere, but I don't think in a Brazilian thrash scene. Are all of them of the same period? I could say that there is a Thrash scene in Sweden with The Haunted, Meshuggah, The Crown,.... will you agree?

Gotta say Teutonic. Germany is one of the best thrash countries in the world. And Kreator, Sodom, and Destruction are some of my favorite thrash bands of all time! I also love Testament and Sepultura, but the Teutonic thrash scene produced more high quality bands than any other scene in the poll.

I can confirm that Canada does not have a "thrash scene" just a few thrash bands that got big. Annihilator and Voivod were from separate cities, which were drastically different, culturally and musically. The only real "scene" associated with a specific metal movement is the Quebec death metal scene. Granted, places like Toronto, Vancouver & Calgary may have strong metal scenes, but they are fairly mixed, you're not going to find a specific movement from one city, Calgary has a bit more prog than anything else here, but not enough to be dubbed any sort of "prog scene".

I think perhaps the word he was looking for was "movement". If that's the case, I'd vote Teutonic. Still, this thread is silly. Brazilian thrash scene? With 1 band listed? If you wanted to curb votes a little, perhaps you should equal everything out a bit better.
