One of My Favorite bands, as I am sure those who have become familliar with my posting have learned pretty Clearly, and one of the bands responsible for getting me into Metal, I feel that they Deserve a disscusion. Go ahead, talk about Former members, Current members, albums, Likes, Dislikes, whatever, as long as it pertains to the Subject.

I am kind of excited for the new record as well. My only concern is how the big label may influence the music the band creates. On the bright side, at least they have an excuse to fall back on if their fan base rejects the new shit.

@Winter Death: Yeah that Kind of has me worried as well, but I am also Optimistic, the new album will hopefully be better than a bunch of B-sides that wern't good enough to make it to be anything but an excuse to close a contractual obligation to a record label.

You mean the "Fallout From The War" album, right? Is it that bad? I have kind of postponed buying this album for a while but I heard the song "In Effigy" and to me it came to be pretty good. If the rest of the album follows in the same line as this song I wouldn't call it as a bad album.

I don't think fallout was bad, but I was dissapointed by it. It's still an enjoyable album, but it does not nearly live up to their potential, and doesn't even touch albums from the past. I won't go on a rant about it, but it just disapoints me is all, I still like every song on the album, I still listen to it, one of their best songs ever written is on the album (Deadworld) But it still just gets me down how much better it could hav been, you know what I mean?

Perhaps I know though I haven't heard it yet so I can't say much. "In Effigy" in my opinion live to the expectations of what you could expect from the material after the The War Within and my disappointment (that word is too rude, it is more like not being what I expected) came with The War Within after I was expecting such great songs as the ones found in the The Art Of Balance album. Those songs had such memorable solos and killer riffs that weren't met in the The War Within album, even when the latter was enjoyable nonetheless.

So, as I said previously, if the rest of the songs in the The Fallout From War follow that same line I wouldn't be disappointed because this song would fit perfectly in the The War Within album (it was material left behind for that album to begin with, right?) and I doubt that what they did in the The Art Of Balance will be repeated (I hope I can be proven wrong though). Now, I know that there are like three covers from other bands done by Shadows Fall in that record so parting from that we can already see this album as less consistent than other of their full-lengths since this covers, in spite of being good or great, are more like filling songs within an album than efforts of the band in making great material by themselves.

Sometimes I feel that I write too much.

Nah man, it's cool, the more you have to say the better. But personally, I was not disapointed by the war within at all. While not as good as the art of Balance, The war within I think came close. The light that Blinds lives up to almost any song on the art of balance, and Enlightened by the cold is almost as brutal as any song from Somber eyes or of one blood, the only reason why I can't see it passing for those albums is because the chorus has lighter vocals. Those who can not speak, once more, I feel lives up to an art pf balance feel. So I'd even go as far as saying that the war within is my second favorite album by them. But this is sheerly my oppinion

@ Arian Totalis:

That is what I said: that it was not as good as The Art Of Balance. The Light That Blinds is indeed a killer introductory song with that guitar introduction which reminds me a lot to that ending part of Crushing Belial. However, even when I consider that the rest of the album flows, I cannot say that I enjoy it as much as The Art Of Balance. Differencing from The Art Of Balance, I don't get caught by the rest of the songs. When I put The Art Of Balance I expect every single song from the album while, when playing The War Within, I just let the album flow and listen to it. It may come as a result to what I already said in previous posts: I find none of the guitar solos in TWW as catchy as any of those in TAOB and to me TAOB seemed as an orgy of riffs that catch you off-balance and demanded you to further listen to the songs in order to get a precise hold of them, your ears were always busy trying to keep up with the guitar riffing.

I don't know if calling a Shadows Fall's song brutal is pertinent. I still have to get a hold of that album with Labonte.

@Darth: Well, maby not as brutal as say, Canibal corpse or Deicide, but I still find it brutal for non-deathmetal. The album with Labonte in fact does actually sound like swedish melodic death, but I still like it.

Check out the new Shadows Fall song here.

Unfortunately, I think it's fucking weak. I actually had to turn it off right when I heard the chorus. It seems like they're following the current trend of making melodic thrash and substituting harsh screams for clean vocals. I'm very disappointed and now I have second thoughts about buying the new album.

This new song is nothing to write home about. I'm not going to pass judgement on the new album just yet, but this single sounds like the band wants to go into a different direction. A direction I do not approve of...
The vocals don't sound too bad I suppose, but those riffs don't sounds as inspired as past efforts.

I like it, but it's nothing new. This didn't blow me away like The Light that Blinds did the first time I listened to The War Within. I hope the rest of the album is a bit more original than this, they're following their old formula way too closely. The solo is kind of nice though, in my opinion.

I got the new album today. It's not as bad as I thought it would be, though it still is not near their caliber of potential. With them trying to get all this exposure on MTV and touring with Stoned Sour, I might even say they've finally sold out......but I mean, there is always the next album, right?

Yeah that's usually best, but reviews are still a good way of getting a stranglehold on the overall album sound. Then afer listening to it you can decide for yourself weather or not you agree with the review.

reviews are only any good if you know the reviewer has knowledge about the music he's rating AND if you like his musical taste
if some intelectual rates an bullet for my valentine album as very good, its still nonsence for me
