It's not just about playing high notes very fast kid. For me at least, a good guitarist simulates with his hands the act of sticking the guitar up his ass until the headstock jabs through the heart, so that a large portion of vital, emotional producing thingies take part in playing . And most of Hammet's solos really shout something out if you take time to listen. But oh, who am I talking too? Oh yeah, PANTERA!!!

@Master_o_Puppets: these solos you listed aren't very easy, I mean you can play Fade to Black solo correct, being only 16? Know that Gojira guitarist said in an interview to Terrorizer that he has been trying to play that solo for 10 years, and is still working on it?

Depends on how exact you want to be...some people say they can play solo's...then you listen to them and the bends are out, bum notes and such.

i could say that i can play the first solo in deaths overactive imagination, but for me, i dont sound half as good as the recorded version.

Ha ha ha...awesome. King does suck...he licks jeff hannemans boots. jeff slays him in everyway, better riffs, better solo's. He is slayer, kings wrote a few good tunes whereas jeff has written most of the great ones. nuff said.

I am highly doubtful of the thread starters ability to pull of those solos at ease. A lot of people claim that they can play something tight, and probably honestly think so themselves but when you actually listen to them the result is really sloppy, or has some really fucking horrid bends. I\d be interested in some youtube clips or something, maybe im wrong who knwos.

As I stated earlier, I totally agree with you on the general issue here. and yeah this whole guitar pro generation whing is true, just check out the endless barrage of "kids" trying to nail foulbody autopsy or something else ridiculously over their heads on youtube. These kids think they can play just because their parents bought them a fancy low action ibanez and their line 6 is pumped on full distortion. However that is not to say that our generation is that far away 4 years is not much of a difference and I see a lot of people in my age group and older do the exact same thing. Im really trying not to fall into the trap that i see a lot of these people do, and try to play songs that I know I can nail more confidently rather than make an arse out of myself by attempting something that people whove played 13 years can barely play.

I agree that our generation (I'm 15.) has more money than determination. Thats why music is still gonna suck for the next twety years. I play a vintage (not sure when from. I just trying to remember what my dad babbled at me) japanese handmade les paul with a carved back and a brace on the neck, worth a little over a grand. I get lessons from a local shredder and use guitar pro whn I want to learn a song. I practice for about an hour and a half a day and spend most of that doing speed excercises.

Im sure Hammet grew up playing some second hand piece of shit, teaching himself and learning songs from listening to them over and over again on his record player. Im sure he would have killed to get a hold of my shit, but he made do and obsessed and played determinly and still turned out a better play than I'll ever be.

Having said that...

Fuck you if using something that makes my life easier (guitar pro) makes me inferior to you. You're gonna have to use a cane soon if your old enough to look back on the world with more spite than my 70 year old grandmother does.

As for the guy people are hating on- do you really give a fuck if some guy on the internet says he can do something that you think he cant? I try and play shit I cant because thats how you improve. You still play the shit you first started out on? You must have stepped up sometime, I know it wouldnt be a shit guitarist giving other people this shit, because that would too fucking funny. As far as your other post goes, well I don't give a fuck if someone is better or worse than anyone else at guitar, it's just funny to see people post videos of themselves playing the guitar on youtube when they can't really pull the songs off. It's like me posting a video "ME BENCHING 200KG!!! CHECK THIS SHIT!!!" and then totally failing to even lift 70kg.
Bottom line, don't make a fool outof yourself by making claims that you can't back up.

again, missing the point. the curtains in my bedroom are decent but theres not much emotion in those. whoever made them had skills but still cant really make curtains all that well.

Well I'd assume that the emotion is a part of being able to write a decent solo. Anyhow I see what youre saying.

You could write a solo that is completely emotionless and even Vaughan couldnt work emotion into it, but I think that theres something than comes from a guitarist in a solo, not the guitar. To me at least, and this is of course only the way I hear him, Hammet is missing that.. 'bond' with his music.
