Metallica and Iron Maiden are world wide recognized as 2 of the more important, influential, famous and outstanding bands in the history of Music, more specific Metal, so which of these 2 godlike bands you like the most?
Personally I prefer Iron Maiden because they were the ones that started the whole movement, though Metallica gave it the strenght to amaze the whole world, but you know Maiden is Maiden and they have really become legends.

Poll

Which of these 2 influential almost godlike bands you like most?

This is so wrong!
At the time 'The Four Horsemen', 'Phantom Lord', 'Ride The Lightning', 'The Call Of Ktulu' were written Dave Mustaine was a part of Metallica. If you say that those songs aren't actually Metallica's than you can consider a lot of songs from many bands to be not from those bands.

'Creeping Death' (1), 'Trapped Under Ice' (2) and 'Leper Messiah' (3) were written by:
1) Hetfield, Burton, Hammett and Ulrich
2) Hetfield, Hammett and Ulrich
3) Hetfield and Ulrich

Maiden has good songs but not as many good songs as Metallica's. And live Metallica is far better than Maiden. That's what I've seen and experienced in the years.

The songs labelled Metallica are Metallica not of others. Bands carry different members in the years but the songs are of the band not of the person who left. As far as I'm concerned the songs written with Mustaine are great because it wasn't only Mustaine. Megadeth never grew up enough to be the same level as Metallica, this means Metallica was not Mustaine.

70 great songs?!
Where are they?! Most of them are all sounding the same so if you mean 70 tunes of the same kind then I can agree. I've seen them live four times but they're not amazing as you state.

matthioso, the first two have bits from when Kirk was in Exodus. Listen to Impaler, sure it was released on album in 2004 but they've been playing it live since around when Ride (and Trapped) came out/were written. And I think I've read that the "Die!" section of Creeping was thought up by Tom Hunting.

It's also been said that the riffs around Leper's solo sound a lot like something Mustaine would write... I think the reference there was Peace Sells.

But Silky, if that's you, I don't think you can use the other Mustaine songs as arguments; after all they were credited properly, and he was in the band at the time.

But hell... I voted Maiden anyway. Purely awesome debut and follow-up, longer duration as a band, and a better average of material over that time.

I would have to say Maiden is the more influential. 75% of metal bands have elements of iron maiden in them. Ranging from Lyrics such as those on powerslave and number of the beast. To complex arrangements like Hallowed be thy Name and pretty much all of A Matter of life and death. Their biggest influence is in metal soloing. fast fretting with a bluesy touch.

Metallica are very influetial on most band coming though now. But Metallica turned to shit, and disrespected metal by saying "Metal is dead"

Iron Maiden without a doubt...Metallica is ok but IM is just so much better IMO. The music, the vocals, the lyrics...everything (haven't seen Metallica live so can say anything about that)

well, i voted metallica just beacuse i like a couple of songs from them. i'm not a fan of either band, but i like metallica more, and beacuse i don't like maiden at all. i know a lot of people may hate me ofr saying that, and say 'oh but maiden is sooo influential...' yeah, i know that, but it's just that they don't do it for me. but at least metallica have some songs that i like and that do make me want to

Hahahaha, good one. You got e stumped with that one.
But once I posted the my previous little ditty I saw that the question is not about who is the most influential but who I like best.
Mmmm, then the answer would be Metallica because of their first THREE albums. Especially cause I heard them at the time they were released. Those albums were just the heaviest, fastest, most extreme shit being released at the time. Okay not RtL and Mop really anymore because that's when some other bands ahd surpassed them in extremity but Kill 'em All certainly was THE most extreme thign at the time.
But somehow RtL and Mop were also way more groundbreaking than anything Iron Maiden had done. I am saying groundbreaking nNOT influential, mind you people.
Unfortunately Metallica lost the plot after MoP whereas Iron Maiden more or less sustained their grandeur up to and including parts of Seventh Son, but having already released Somehwere In Time unfortunately.

40/15 ... No need to comment then, i believe the point is clear.
Metallica were one of the bands that changed the Metal Scene world wide forever and no one can deny that, but in the same time ... they are not as godlike as Iron Maiden.

so i don't think that this 3dots are so important ... is use it instead of write my new sentence in the first of the next line
and i meant that as you can see in the votes METALLICA has 15 votes, and IRON MAIDEN has 42 votes.
the result shows that IRON MAIDEN is more popular than METALLICA .. and i have the same opinion
i like many bands more than iron maiden but in this poll i voted for them. ...

'Creeping Death' (1), 'Trapped Under Ice' (2) and 'Leper Messiah' (3) were written by:
1) Hetfield, Burton, Hammett and Ulrich
2) Hetfield, Hammett and Ulrich
3) Hetfield and Ulrich

The breakdown section in Creeping Death so beloved by Metallica fans was taken from Exodus' Die By His Hand, which was written long before Creeping Death, but was never committed to a studio release, due to the fact that Exodus didn't want to get into legal issues with Metallica (because, since it is only found on the 'Die By His Hand' demo, everyone would assume Exodus stole it from Metallica).

The main riff in Trapped Under Ice (for the solos and verses) was written for the Exodus song Impaler.

I seem to recall Leper Messiah being cited as another Mustaine piece. However, I will give you that his Kill 'Em All/Ride The Lightning work was written when he was still a member.

Maiden is definetely more influential.Metallica is a great band but we all should admit that it is also a legend of marketing. They just made more people into metal, most of whom stay only as a metallica fan.If we are talking about a pure metal influence,Iron Maiden has one of the greatest factors in this.

True, but that's the reason Hammett is credited for those songs by Metallica, since both Die By His Hand and Impaler were mostly written by Hammett when he was in Exodus.

That's moot. Since the songs were never in studio circulation in Exodus, there's no indication as to who penned them. Hammet certainly co-penned some songs in Exodus before his departure, but every source I've seen outside of Metallica's stance implies that Tom Hunting crafted the riff for 'Die By His Hand'.

Impaler is credited to Hammett on Tempo of the Damned, and I clearly remember loads of interviews in magazines back in the day where the Exodus guys credit Hammett for co-writing almost every single song in the period he was in the band.
But of course it is impossible to check the original song writing credits for all of Exodus' demo songs unless you have the original demo cassettes, and even then song wrting credits weren't always mentioned on those either.

Wow, this is a hard question. Honestly, I have to go with Metallica. Sure, their material now is crap, but their first three albums, plus Load, are fantastic. Iron Maiden, while they have had a more steady career, has never released an album that made me say "WOW". Also, as High and Mighty stated, Iron Maiden songs all sound pretty much the same. Sure, there are some that have different styling, but an Iron Maiden album from 15-20 years ago sounds just like their new one. Whereas Metallica, for good or bad, changed their sound.

even though i'm only thinking about old Metallica songs, the songs i like, this is a really easy one for me; in favour of Iron Maiden

of course Metallica have a lot of really great songs and also a lot of complicated ones, but Iron Maiden is just kind of the epitome of classical metal to me, a lot of their well known songs just hold some kind of magic for me, they always keep making me want to listen to them, no matter how often i've heard them before. i just love singing along to songs like The Trooper which i've known since the very day i started listening to metal, Run To The Hills, The Number Of The Beast, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Fear Of The Dark... all these songs really have a meaning for me when i listen to them.

at the same time i marvel because i always think about Iron Maiden being one of the first ones out there, they are simply legends, on the other hand the songs are still awesome by the standards of today, and they all have awesome choruses. Metallica on the other hand are just another band i sometimes listen to...

*Iron Maiden= British Heavy Metal, Power...Metallica = Thrash Metal, Hard Rock

*Maiden= metal gods Tallica= metal gods

*why this post is wrong = two different genders there can't be a "vs" in between, they are gods in what they do/play best...and without them we would be listening to glam metal till today. next time try maiden vs priest.

*I go for metallica tho because they got me into metal and changed my life long long time ago.
