I mean, its not like you've provided listeners with fourteen albums' worth of imagination fuel up to this point or anything.

This album is good! In my head, CC is kinda the AC/DC of death metal: consistent but a bit repetitive. But they really did a great job with this one

You know this year has been unexciting for metal so far when a cannibal corpse album makes it into the top 10.

Nah, look at the number of ratings. 90% of people don't even give other bands a chance. Violence Unimagined has over 150 votes while Gojira's Fortitude is over 100 in just a couple of days...

or make lists weekly (or monthly) about great albums by unknown bands of different genres that deserve more love
or recommend bands under 100 fans on the front page often

Other than the Gojira and Evile reviews, every review currently on the front page is of a band I wouldn't exactly call popular. Loads of us have personal lists of the stuff we check and that is unpopular. We have a bunch of regular features to shed light on stuff that doesn't make it to the main page.

And at the same time, it's hard to listen to everything. The reader's attention is a finite resource, as is our time to listen to and write about stuff.

Do you feel like there's any album recently that didn't get the attention it deserved?

That's an unfair comment and IMO untrue.

I would say most of the reviews on here are of relatively underground bands.

I can't think of one right now
the lists can be moved to front page to attract more people IMO

Oh here's good one I think
maybe have lists for people who like a certain popular band and suggest bands that are in that style and territory
like make a list for Meshuggah fans : bands that you should check out if you like Meshuggah , and so on

I never paid attention to that, cool
but that's also what everybody can vote for ... maybe some people who are more experienced making a list is better ?

Man, we are very open to criticism and all but this is the last thing I would expect anyone to say. There is a fuckton of promotion of underground, unsigned, and unknown bands here, to the point that most people often say that we are biased against the mainstream bands (which I personally would find to be more valid criticism tbh). No offense but try to explore the website a little bit more rather than spamming all the Gojira-related threads and I promise you that you will be rewarded.

Now please let's get back to the topic, which is the latest album by Cannibal Corpse. Thank you.

what I meant was there can be "more" emphasis on unpopular bands that's all

I literally had no idea this even came out cause I mostly use MS to search for new stuff and it's 99% underground bands that get reviewed, put into lists, articles, etc. lmao what are you talking about. Like if you claimed the opposite, that MS is a bit snobbish when it comes to popular records, then I could get it. But jesus that's just literally false.

nonsense.

it's because listeners are stuck in generic ways.
People love their 'safe generic' listening, and CC is about as generic as it can possibly get.
"Color by numbers" death metal with a great bassist and a mediocre drummer, but a cool dude without a neck as the vocalist

I literally just now was on a facebook group called "Death Metal", with over 76,000 members.
Cannibal Corpse is RUNNING AWAY with their "album of the year" voting right now, with as many votes as the next 4 albums combined.
It damn sure isn't because of anything MetalStorm is or isn't doing.

The vast majority of "fans" are simply casual death metal listeners, so they stick with the early Florida DM bands. Why do you think CC, Obituary, and Deicide are even popular? They damn sure aren't putting out anything interesting or relevant. Same rehashed stuff over and over, and the casual fans eat it up.
D
on't blame the website for not promoting unknown bands more, that's exactly the opposite of reality. I learn about more lesser-known bands here at MetalStorm than I do almost anywhere else.

Tons of ways to help promote lesser known bands here on Metal Storm. It's actually one of the best sites to do it at as well.

1) Find a band you like that isn't even on the list
2) Dig up the info on them, message a mod, say "hey dude, these guys are cool, here's all their info"
3) Mod adds the band
4) You write a review of the album, then add to the "bands that are similar" by adding bands that are a lot more popular of a similar variety
5) Go to the big band pages from #4, and then add your lesser known band as a 'band that is similar
6) Make your own list and include this band's album

so yeah, that's a lot of words to say "I disagree", sorry about that

on a side note, back to the album itself, it is Cannibal Corpse. Nothing new or imaginative, some catchy, high intensity stuff. A few songs that can make it to the occasional workout playlist, but I can't see picking this album over any of a few dozen other albums. However, CC doesn't release *bad* albums, I'd just like to see them get a new drummer on par with Alex Webster; that would make for a serious rhythm section that could really help expand their sound

My favourite CC album since Torture, definitely back on form with this one. And I just checked out their videos to the songs "Necrogenic Resurrection", and "Inhumane Harvest", pretty graphic stuff, the level of gore you should be getting in modern horror films.
