Melodic Death metal
Recorded: Fantom Studio, Finland 2009
Label: Candlelight Records
Total Running Time: 45:41

What if The Big Guy Himself told you that you already lived the happiest day of your entire life? Would you fall into despair, curl up into a pathetic ball of misery, waiting to get shot out of disgust? Or would that give you the power to pursue the second happiest day of your life no matter what? Powerful despair or despairing power. Sounds a lot like Insomnium's Across The Dark, the light leading to darkness.

Gentle reminder: Insomnium is awesome.

FYI, there's also a new Insomnium song, "Weather Storm", online. Rare and previously unreleased. All you have to do is share this link on Facebook or Twitter to receive a free download of the song (plus a track by some band called Dark Tranquillity), or wait until some wise guy uploads the whole thing on YouTube. The song features a guest appearance by Mikael Stanne.

Well they play very different forms of melodic death metal so it's just a matter of taste. DT have been around a lot longer and helped pioneer the genre so they'll always have that going for them.

Better than DT? I think they're better than DT and IF too (I'm a huge In Flames fan but seriously they aren't MDM any more >_<)

Before The Dawn was doing a great job, from Gothic to Melodeath. Their last album "Rise Of The Phoenix" was fucking awesome but sadly Tuomas cancelled all his projects including BTD started a new project, Wolfheart. For me i think BTD and Ins. are the best MDM bands from Finland.

Still my most praised album from the finnish gods called Insomnium. Years passes by but this album somehow has always the best setup of melancholic melody and brutal vocals which just every time I listen to it got me in the right and wanted mood. I am happy that some things never change, like good music. Beethoven was awesome few hundreds years ago and so is today. Same thing applies for Insomnium. This album has the same effects on me like it had 5 years ago - when released. You ask why? The answer is quality. One of few unchangeable factors.

Best Melodeath: Dark Tranquillity
Best of Finnland: Mors Principium Est

That's just my opinion. These guys are really good, but for some reason I just don't connect. I think it's just a personal thing.

This album is on the verge of the death and alternatives. Sounds really commercial.

At least the mixing is better than on "One For Sorrow" that proves really unpleasant afterwards :/

These rising kings of melodic death metal did a great job on this album. Despite having 8 tracks only , most tracks expand past 5 minutes making every song memorable.

Probably my second favorite album from the band (behind only Winter's Gate). This record contains 'Equivalence' and 'Down With the Sun' which are probably my two favorite Insomnium tracks, especially when paired together.

Another brilliant record as per usual from a band that can do very little wrong imo. The songwriting without any surprise is very impressive, so too are the melodies, sound and song structures, although imho this is just slightly lacking the overall consistency and flow of the previous release.

It's filled with lot's of decent tracks and a couple of absolute bangers such as "Lay Of The Autumn", "Down With The Sun", and "Into The Woods", but the real highlight for me is "Weighed Down With Sorrow", which imo is one of Insomnium's all time best songs

I think this is the first Insomnium album that I listened back in the days. Been revisiting it these days and yeah, it's really good. First three tracks are so good, and "Weighted Down with Sorrow" close the album magnificently. And it's not overly long nor bloated.
