Folk Power metal from Scottland...on 25th of January they have released their debut album Captain Morgan's Revenge...they are quite similar to bands like Turisas or Ensiferum (only instead of Viking warriors they are singing about Caribbean pirates if i am not wrong )

You've read my review for the album?

did so just now
good review, i agree with most of it

although my rating would have looked more like this:
Performance: 7
Songwriting: 6
Originality: 8
Production: 5
Total: 6.6

but further i think pretty much the same about a lot of what you wrote

The album is alright and the best pirate metal band I have listened to (actually the only pirate band I have ever heard of).

Don't really how the album is rated, but their music is enjoyable, like once a month . I like complex music, this is just too simple for me, I get bored too fast, but waiting a month and then rediscover it can make pass a short good time. The vocals are... well weird but they fit to the music in a way. For the pirate metal tag. I find it weird to call it that way. Can you imagine if their was as many metal genre as there is lyrics theme?

Hah, yeah...every metal band that is out there would have there own genre name and you wouldn't call them by their name anymore except for by their genre. I just call them pirate metal because they think they are pirates and the play metal.

Running Wild is much better, they have a lot of sweet guitar harmonies in their music, or "guitarmonies" if you will, and have been around since the late 70's if I can recall correctly. We also have a folk/death/prog metal band from my home town called Verbal Deception who are getting pretty big, they go under the whole pirate theme of things, (and started before Battleheart become Alestorm and switching over to the pirate thing.

It's a shame that a briliant concept like Pirate Metal is dragged to the dirt like this. There wasn't much effort needed to create a good pirate metal band, a blackbeard look a like with a burly voice and some thrash metal with keyboards and that was all. what we got? Annoyingly power metal vocals with a heavy Scottish accent, cheesy keyboards and the immense manowar queer factor. I Normally defend symphonic/folk bands from Napalm records of lame true old school black/heavy/thrash/death fanboys but this is impossible to defend.

There are so many anti-power metallers here! Why is it bad that they mix folk with power metal?! folk metal isn't only fit with extreme genres..

You spoke like you would hate it, but if not then okey. btw I like Alestorm. I admit it's a bit easy to get bored with the music but sometimes it's really amusing to listen to them.

i agree, Running Wild is far superior. they dont have the party anthems like "wenches and mead" but they have ridiculous basslines and Rock 'N' Rolf Kasparek on vocals. add in the guitarmonies and theyre a pirate metal combo that cant be beat. johnny depp should do voice overs NOT

you can't just call them pirate metal though (although that is what they mostly are) they have other elements in them as well, like thraah and some alternaive elements.

My brother bought these guys' album like, two months ago. Now it's his favorite thing to Drink to. I won't deny, they're a pretty good band. I forgot which one it is but they've got this song with one hell of a thrashy feel. I also remember one of the lines is something like "Let's bring these posers to their knees." Fun

Hey guys, If you want AMAZING 'pirate metal'(Death/Folk/Melodic/Thrash), check out Verbal Deception. They're one of the local favorites around here, and I think they deserve much more popularity.

http://www.myspace.com/verbaldeception

BTW, I'm not really meaning to advertise them on here, but I thought fans of Alestorm would appreciate them.

Barely thrash, more prog than anything else. They're not bad, they lack stage presence though, and they never change their set list which is why I lost interest in them a while ago.

Have you seen them recently? Also, have you heard the two new tracks? Yeah the new stuff is definitely more prog. They're stage presense isn't bad, but they just seem a little disorganized.
