Let's be honest, really honest. I discovered these Canadian melodic death metallers a couple of weeks ago. First, I was interested in them, and I decided to give them a listen. Their debut album was a kind of surprise; not quite sure why, but their songs have Middle Eastern roots.

The fact is, I wasn't really interested in the vocals at all; that's my opinion, but I was just listening to the melodies and I liked them. Actually, I was disappointed by the vocals, especially those brutal growls. Yeah, an admixture of brutal growls and clean vocals in a song isn't what makes you (or, of course, me) like a band. The major reason of why I still listen to them is their well-performed melodies. The important thing is the song itself and this is what I have always repeated.

The bright points are many. A band lives by its melodies; when the melodies rise high, the band shall rise, too. It is quite true about Aeternam. Melodies are traditional and originally Middle Eastern, and this is a very good idea to mix two melodies to invent one. With a brand new style you can have brand new fans, so it is obviously clear that they've done it well. The other thing is the high quality of the album. It is somehow underrated, but it is not the worst for sure. The quality affects the overall power and grace that an album have. There are some bands with a lot of success, but in the end, they will release something as terrible as possible, because they don't really handle their own work. It is very important that a musician do his job with a deep, heartfelt sensitivity. Otherwise, the summary in the end could be worse than what they want.

I have been listening to them for a while now, and I have discovered the warm soul of this band. The whole album is enjoyable; you may like it even if you are not a melodeath fan, otherwise you should visit the doctor! After all, this was their first release and who knows the future, they could give us a lot more of this best performance. They have the good fortune of being successful.
