Rhapsody...one of the cheesiest bands ever, hmm...maybe one of the best...each and every one of their albums contains epic choral arrangements, soaring vocals, mindblowing instrumentation, and of course, the quality that defines the band...the orchestra...unlike some bands, who have an orchestra just to hide the horrid quality of their music, Rhapsody uses it in a way to make you want to slay orcs and dragons, lol...yes I know...nowadays, the method of combining orchestras and choruses to power metal is almost standard...however, Rhapsody was one of the first to use it, and use it to its full potential...anyways, the orchestra rocks...makes it more epic...Rhapsody has been one of the biggest and most influential epic metal bands ever...climactic, epic songs full of adventure...and now, actor Christopher Lee (who plays Saruman in the Lord of the Rings movies) does most of the narrations for their albums...I find it really captivating, and exciting (and cheesy)...much neoclassical stylings on the guitar, and some absolutely crushing lines...of course, most of the songs go at 100 miles per hour, with doublebass and palm muted chords apounding, and the synths laying down a barrage of notes...as usual...however, they do have some great ballads...it doesnt matter...highly recommended (at least by me)...Rhapsody is one of the most unique bands of the power metal scene...so...welcome brother, to the world of power metal...a dangerous land filled with dragons, steel, magic, orcs, demons, wizards, and lots of cheese...power metal has some of the highest levels of cheese in any sort of music, but anyways...I think its great...and you should also check Luca Turilli's side project.

Luca Turilli (guitar)
Alex Staropoli (keyboards)
Patrice Guers (bass)
Alex Holzwarth (drums)

Has anyone payed attention to Christopher Lee?? (The actor, Saruman in TLOTR) Well, he sings with Rhapsody since "The Dark Secret", anyway seems that he will release an album by himself

Actor CHRISTOPHER LEE Records 'Heavy Metal' Tune Sung In French; Video Available - Jan. 18, 2007
World Entertainment News Network reports that acting veteran Christopher Lee has launched a music career at the age of 84 ? releasing a CD of songs including a heavy metal track. The "Lord Of The Rings" star is convinced he is the oldest rocker to record an album.

He says of "Revelation", "I really believe that when people hear this CD they will say, 'Yes he really can sing.' And it is a unique recording. As far as I know no other man of my age has sung on an album."

And Lee believes it will be a hit with young and old fans: "This has to be something that people can connect with. You see the young will connect with the metal version of 'The Toreador March', even though it is sung in French. I'm not singing in heavy metal, but it is still heavy metal."

Watch video footage of Christopher Lee performing the "heavy metal" version of "The Toreador March" with the London-based punk/ska band INNER TERRESTRIALS at this location.

Lee has no plans to take his music on tour ? insisting, "Not at my age. I don't think I could go through that. I couldn't possibly get up and sing these songs in a live show ? my voice would probably be affected."

@ shadowlady: I read those news a couple of days ago, and it's really funny, but the band won't be metal, except one song. That's a shame, that should be a symphonic metal project, something like Therion or Haggard.

well i liked their first 2 albums a lot and i think they are the best albums of Rhapsody. the others albums are quite the same style and the same melodic line but are ok with some great songs too but not the hole album like symphony of enchanted lands or legendary tales.

Yeah I really love "Legendary Tales" I think its their strongest album by quite a long distance. Songs like "Land of Immortals", "Flames of Revenge" and "Rage of the Winter" are fantastic and its IMPOSSIBLE not to hum or sing along when I listen to it....their albums became a little bit too cheesy for my liking later on...

Yes don't forget about this thread people.

I was taking a look at the Neoclassical metal discussion, and I somehow remembered Luca Turilli. Then, I went to the band profile and I saw that Yngwie appears as "similar band". I don't think that Rhapsody is that similar to Yngwie's band, but what do you guys think??

Yi think that Yngwie and Rhapsody are almost as different as oil and water, let´s see this way, Yngwie is an impressive fast guitar player, Luca is also, nonetheless.
Yngwie is kind more like "flamenco style" and Luca is not, the themathic of the songs is totally different, maybe they put them together for being "melodic"??

Yes, it looked strange to me when I saw that!
Turilli is very influenced by Malmsteen IMO, but Luca puts everything in the epic contest, while Yngwie is Heavy Metal with Baroque influences... So Rhapsody and Yngwie are very different IMO!
The only thing that puts together both bands is the guitar technique, I repeat, because Luca's style is inspired by Yngwie's style...
This is what I think about who put the bands as "similar"...

I'm not so familiar with Malmsteen, but the few tracks I've heard doesn't remind me of Rhapsody at all...so no IMO they're not similar

I agree with you, but rather than saying "flamenco" I would say that Yngwie is more versatile, and he focus a lot in shredding. Also we can't say a band is similar to another only because of the guitar style.

I also prefer Rhapsody rather than Yngwie's, but as you do, I also recognize Yngwie is a great guitarrist and that his band isn't that similar to Rhapsody.
