My 10 Favorite albums in no particular order are:
Dream Theater: Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence - When I heard this album I was in grade 7 and at the time my version of metal consisted of only bands like System of a Down, In Flames, and Shadows Fall. When I turned this album on my entire world changed it opened me up into the genre of Progressive Metal. This album contains 2 discs and both are amazing. My favorite songs on it are The Glass Prison, Dissapear, and Disc 2.
Ayreon: The Human Equation - This two disc album contains so many of my favorite singers such as Devin Townsend and Mikael Akerfeldt. It's a great progressive metal concept album. Lyrically this is probably my favorite album of all time because it tells such a great story.
The Mars Volta: De-Loused In the Comatorium - This Prog Rock album is off the wall and contains great jam and ambience sections. This album is also extremely sporadic and wierd and that's what I like about it.
Tool: Ænima - This is one of the best albums I have ever heard every song on the album is amazing and I can't think of anything on it I'd like to change it gives off such a cool vibe.
Blind Guardian: Imaginations From The Otherside - Most people say that Nightfall In Middle-Earth is the best Blind Guardian album but for me this album is my favorite Power Metal record ever. It has everything I want to hear in an album great leads and big chours. This album contains so many great songs like Bright Eyes, Script For My Requim, Mordred's Song, and Born In a Morning Hall.
In Flames: Colony - This album contains some great melodies and is the last great album from Melodeath band In Flames. The acoustic passages on this album are what make me like this album so much. They can take acoustic interludes and make them so good that they don't seem like filler.
Iron Maiden: Powerslave - This is my favorite classic metal album it contains nothing but memorable songs and riffs. This album also includes my favorite Iron Maiden epic The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
Megadeth: Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? - This is my all time favorite thrash album and one of the most aggressive albums I have ever heard. On this album you can really feel how pissed off Dave Mustaine is and every song on the album is amazing.
Opeth: Damnation/Deliverance - This album contains one half of really great mellow songs that I can't get enough of and the second half of the album is heavy as fuck. This album contains both extremes of music which is why I like it so much.
Symphony X: The Divine Wings of Tragedy - Another great progressive album that contains some great keyboards and neoclassical shredding by Michael Romeo.

1. Appetite For Destruction - Guns N' Roses This is my favorite album ever because the lineup of GNR that wrote and recorded this album is my favorite band ever. this isimo the only true GNR album. Before Axl added the horn section and the pianist and before izzy left and steven od'd. Slash's guitar playing is perfection in this album. His solos are both gritty and melodic silmultaneously. Favorite Tracks: Welcome to the Jungle, Nightrain, Paradise City 2. Alive or Just Breathing - Killswitch Engage This album is so catchy and brutal at the same time. The song structures in this CD arent all lame and predictable like those in CDs put out by other mainstream metalcore bands or even like the recent KSE albums. Favorite Tracks: Numbered Days, Element of One, Vida Infra 3. Chaosphere - Meshuggah MESHUGGAH!!!!!!!!!!!! The last track seems like a filler track (a fifteen minute filler track tsk tsk) and imo D.I.E. is technically a better album, but I love chaosphere cuz it just has this real groove. Favorite Tracks: New Millenium Cyanide Christ, Corridor of Chameleons, Exquisite machinery of torture 4. The Celts - Enya I think this is like a remastered CD of her very first album before Watermark.. I'm not sure about that though.. Anyway this album is classic Enya except most of the songs are lyricless and just feature different forms of humming or 'lalalaing' by enya.. and I kind of prefer that. This is the most played album on my itunes. I think the reason is I listen to it faithfully 5 nights out of a week when I go to Sleep. Favorite Tracks: I Want Tomorrow, To Go Beyond, Fairytale 5. Anthems of Rebellion - Arch Enemy Actually it should be a 3-way tie between this and two other AE albums (ROTT and WOS) but I picked this one because I think its often overlooked.. the other two won't appear in my top 10 cuz I don't want to clutter my list with the same band. Actually AOR was the first "real" metal album I ever listened to. Favorite Tracks: Dead Eyes see no Future, End of the Line, Marching on A Dead End Road 6. Satellite - P.O.D. I love this album cuz it reminds me of the good ol days. When i first bought this album on casette it was the only album I ever listened to from start to finish. And I had that thing in my walkman constantly. I'm not really into the whole nu metal thing and P.O.D. has since put out some really lame albums but now and then i'll listen to it and it's cool to think back on the simpler days... But there are some really great tracks on this album like Anything Right, Messenjah and Portrait 7. Whoracle - In Flames okay everyone says Jester Race is the best IF album but NO it's not!!!! Whoracle is greater in ways that I can't explain. Whoracle is just one sweet little freaking melodeth album. The accoustic parts stand out here more than they do in JR, The melodies are more memorable and plus Jester Script Transfigured (My favorite IF song ever!!!) is in this album. Favorite Tracks: Jester Script Transfigured, Gyroscope, Whoracle 8. Mezmerize/Hypnotize - System of A Down Okay there's like three songs (Old School Hollywood) between these two albums that I would've done away with but other than that it's pretty much flawless. Usually with double albums I find myself skipping half away too often.. but not with this.. SOAD got heavier, catchier, more experimental, more melodic all at the same time with this album. Favorite Tracks: BYOB, Sad Statue, Soldier Side, Hypnotize 9. Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers all the explanation needed: Scar tissue, Around the world, Otherside, Parallel Universe, Californication etc... 10. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring OST- Howard Shore This Album takes me to another place.. like for real. This is my Favorite Film score of all Time. It really moves me.. it has allot of different themes all extremely memorable and great. Favorite Tracks: The Breaking of the Fellowship, Concerning Hobbits, The Black Rider

That's hard, but i decided on those: 1. Subway To Sally - Herzblut: I love this album because there are so many great songs on it. "Wenn Engel Hassen" is one of the most epic songs ever and also "Kleid Aus Rosen", "Die Schlacht" and "Krötenliebe" are great. Ofcourse it's a big advantage if you understand german because the lyrics are also great, but i think the music is also quite enjoyable without understanding what the lyrics are about. 2. Summoning - Stronghold: It's hard to choose an album of Summoning, because they are all awesome, but i like Stronghold the most. Especially the song "Long Lost To Where No Pathway Goes" is one of my alltime favourites (if not THE alltime favourite), but there aren't any bad songs on that album. I simply love that epic feeling that you get when you're listening to Summoning, it is an amazing feeling imo. 3. Sabaton - Primo Victoria: In my opinion by far the best Power Metal band on earth. I like the other albums too, but Primo Victoria is the best. The songs are so damn catchy and if I'm listening to an album of Sabaton i hear it the hole day in my head. My favourite songs on that album are "Primo Victoria", "Panzer Battalion" and "Metal Machine". 4. Moonspell - Irreligious: I like Moonspell a lot, but on most of their albums are some songs which are only average, but not on this one! "Opium", "Mephisto" and "Full Moon Madness" are fantastic and the others are not too far behind. Moreover Moonspell is a great live band and you should check out their live videos on youtube (they have also a pretty good quality). 5. Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery: I like Dark Tranquillity a lot, but I'm almost only listening to this album because It's so stunning. The songs are all pretty good with no real fillers, but outstanding is the song "Lethe". In my opinion It's one of the best songs ever because it sounds so emotional! 6. Skyclad - The Silent Whales Of Lunar Sea: I'm a big fan of folk metal and Skyclad is one of the greatest folk bands in my opinion. I've choosen that album especially because of one song, namely "Another Fine Mess". Their works are all pretty solid without that many very bad or very good songs, but this song is one of my favourites. 7. Rammstein - Mutter: Their first three albums are all great, but I've chosen that which I like the most. It's hard to describe what makes Rammstein so good because their sound is quite simple, but they were one of the first bands i liked and i still love them. The highlights on that album are "Sonne" and "Ich Will" which both have great videos too! 8. Opeth - Damnation: Also pretty hard to choose because they have so many great records, but one more time a single song made the difference. In this case It's "Death Whispered A Lullaby" which has such a sad atmosphere that It's impossible for me to listen to that song more than twice a day, but It's simply stunning. 9. Hollenthon - With Vilest Worms To Dwell: I love Hollenthon! I think it's the only band where i like all the songs and "With Vilest Worms To Dwell" is simply amazing. I can say only one thing about them: Symphonic metal as its best! You should definitely check out the opener "Y Draig Goch" and if you like it you will also like the rest of that album. 10. Dornenreich - In Luft Geritzt: It's my recent favourite and i can listen to it again and again. The only instruments which are used on that album are a violin and an acoustic guitar and it sounds great! The vocals are whispered most of the time and all together it sounds so special. I never heard anything like this and I'm loving it. Pretty close to the Top 10 were: Agalloch - The Mantle; Estatic Fear - Somnium Obmutum; Haggard - Awaking The Centuries; Satyricon - Now, Diabolical; Tool - Lateralus; Vampiria - Among Mortals; Varg - Wolfszeit and Vicious Crusade - Forbidden Tunes.

Re vamping my list... No particular order 1. Iron Maiden : Iron Maiden- This album really got me into metal. When i first heard it, it blew my mind away. The musicianship was incredible and for some reason, i love Di'anno's voice. I know a lot of people prefer Bruce's a lot more but for some reason Paul's voice really appealed to me a lot. The tracks Phantom of the Opera and Running Free really stood out to me. 2. Gorguts- Obscura: The most technically advanced album ive heard. The time signatures and breakdowns are out of this world and impressive as hell. Very brutal album in which i cant ever see myself taking off my playlist 3. Megadeth- Rust in Peace: Thrash classic for me. The ultimate head bangers album. The riffs are really chunky and Dave was on top pf his game here for sure. A true masterpiece from one of my favorite bands ever. Rust in Peace...Polaris, and Take no Prisoners have so much attitude. I love it. 4. Riverside- Second Life Syndrome: The ultimate pure prog record ever. Love the mood that Riverside brought to the table. Duda's voice really is incredible. The soothing touch and magic of this album is unexplainable. I was really in touch with this album. Some of the songs felt like they were written just for me. It means a lot to me. The track Second Life Syndrome is one of my favorite songs ever. Epic! 5. Katatonia- Discouraged Ones/ Brave Murder Day: Everyone has an album that means more than just the music and this is mine. Goin through a pretty hard time in my life and these both were just here for me when i needed the. Hauntung atmosphere and passionate vocals throughout both albums will forever be burned in my mind. Classics. 6. Agalloch- The Mantle: I think its just scary how much talent this album possesses. One Beautiful track after another. Its just one of those albums you just sit down to and admire every song straight through. Its got a crazy Doom scary atmosphere that i admire a lot. My favorite songs on this classic are In the Shadow of our Pale Companion, and You were but A Ghost in my Arms. 7. Burzum- Filosofem: The perfect mixed of ambience and black metal that captured me. Not overly evil, but there is just something very scary and haunting in vikernes's voice and the instruments used to make this masterpeice. 8. Atheist- Unquestionable Presence: From the moment i heard this one i was immediatly blown away. This album is constantly blaring through my stereo at full blast. Amazing musicianship and technicallity. Enthralled in Essence is one of my favorite songs of all time, in any genre. 9. Death- Symbollic: Probably my favorite album of all time. This is what got me unto Death which is one of my favorite bands. Chuck Schuldiner's combination of lyrics and guitar work exclusivly on one album will never be equalled.....Hail Chuck 10. Pain Of Salvation- The Perfect Element,Part 1: Prog concept classic....one of the most perfect albums of all time.

This is a list with no special order! Machine HEad - The Blackening I know, this always shows up in my lists, but I really love it. From the first moment I listened to it, i knew "This is it!". And it really blows me off my feet, even after the 100 times i listened to it! Everything's perfect on that one - i love the guitars, the way their interplay happens, their power, how melodius they can be and all these great riffs and themes! The drums are heavy and tight as nothing else (for me, I do not know much abuot drums, only if I like them or not) and Adam's bass guitar is also very cool. The vocals and lyrics are amazing, and everything fits together. It really is the "Master Of Puppets" for modern Metal for me. Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast Probably the best metal album ever for me. I know every single note, word and sound that is on there. And on my vinyl version I even know every scratch lol. It has its very own feeling and atmosphere and i love it for about 8 years. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath This album is incredible - so dark and oppressive and it can give you the creeps. I love Ozzy's Vocals and the matchless sound of Geezer's Bass, and of course Iommi's riffs are as sticky and great as nowhere else. The lyrics also got a lot of meaning to me! Metallica - Kill Em All THE Metallica album for me. Pure thrash, perfect! Anesthesia alone can save my day! The riffs are full of power and I actually love the vocals. I remember very well the first time I listened to it, back then I was 15 years old, and it was the "revelation" of thrash metal to me! Wishbone Ash - Argus This may be no metal album, howvever it belongs to my favourite albums, because it is a diamond of melodious jam rock and it has so many sides to discover. Their twin guitars can make me shiver! Saxon - Saxon The classical NWOBHM album for me. It has loads of raw power and still transports the feeling of rock n roll! Bruce Dickinson - Accident of Birth One of the best albums I ever listened to. Bruce as an excellent songwriter teaming up with Roy Z produced this album that is incredible. It sounds so independent from Iron Maiden, although Bruce sings, and it has its own preferences and merits. This one has also to be listened to in one go! Exodus - The Atrocity Exhibition: Exhibit A I guess this is my favourite Thrash Metal album...It contains so much power and it is so unmistakingly Exodus that it hurts! I alays have to scream along and headbang while listenening! Deep Purple - Made In Japan I think this is THE live recording. INcredible songs performed perfectly. After years and years listening to it I still haven't got enough of this great one. Blackmore and Gillan are two of the best musicians for me, and they will always be an inspiration, even if they parted ways a long time ago. The sound of Made In Japan is incomparable and the "draft" for so many live recordings of other bands, and I am glad it exists! And a tenth album...I really do not know which one to chose - Either it is "Piece of Mind" By Iron Maiden or "Through The Ashes of Empires" by Machine Head. I love both of them and really can not decide which one to take! Both are hallmarks of Metal for me...

Choosing ten is hard so to make it easier I'm gonna put down my ten favorite metal albums of all time: 1- Metallica - Ride the Lightning : To me the best Metallica album, the first without Mustaine's touch (not that I'm knocking him). This album is the one which sounds the most 80s too, with heavy metal style riffs popping up from everywhere. 2- Slayer - Show No Mercy : My favorite Slayer by far. As with the above it is their most 80s sounding album with Araya pushing the heavy notes every now and again. Black Magic, Tormentor, Die By the Sword, Fight Till Death...all legends. 3- Korn - Life Is Peachy : One of the albums I've litened to the most in my life. Discovered this back in 1996 and it's what got me into metal. 4- Cradle of Filth - Cruelty and the Beast : Love the melodies, Dani's voice and the theme of the album which recalls Elizabeth Bathory's crimes. Their best album to date without a shadow of a doubt. 5- Metallica - Master of Puppets : I don't find this album as catchy as Ride the Lightning but every song is phenominal. 6- In Flames - Reroute to Remain : I know most people prefer the older albums but I really think the band was in it's prime from Colony to Soundtrack. The melodies in Reroute to Remain are outstanding, I remember singing along to the whole album after only hearing it once. I also love the two folky tracks, especially Dawn of a New Day which I consider one of their all thime best songs. 7- White Zombie - Astro Creep: 2000 : It's a shame White Zombie never got to build upon this album. The songs are catchy and well worked. 8- Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss : My second favorite Slayer album simply because it is awesome from beginning to end and all the songs seem to blend well with one another despite the constant changes in tempo from one song to the next. 9- Marilyn Manson - Portrait of an American Family : The first album has never been equalled by the band since. The sound is rough giving it a grungy edge and every song is class. 10- Dark Tranquillity - Damge Done : Their best album to date with catchy melodies througout. Just love the Treason Wall one of my all time favorite songs.

That is almost impossible. I think I will edit this post several times. I will try first just for Heavy Metal, since I can't compare Thrash with Black, Death with Hard Rock and so on. Besides, there will be several albums of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Helloween -if we include their first EP-, so I will choose one album for every band so as to include as many great bands as possible. There come by order 1. Iron Maiden. Hard to decide between Piece of Mind, Powerslave or Somewhere in Time. I found these 3 Iron Maiden albums as utterly fantastic and far more regular that the first 3 albums or what came next. Their typical sound was established here and developed fully. Though my favourite songs are from "The Number", that album had a couple of tracks I don't like much. Finally I go for "Somewhere in Time" I love all songs terribly, except perhaps the chorus in "Heaven can Wait" Their fusion with futuristic sounds, same as they did in 1985 with Egyptian is fucking well done. Besides, this album contains "every little thing of whay we fancy" mid-tempos, power ballads, quick wild old maiden riffs... 2. Helloween Walls of Jericho. I loved old weenies. The sound the create and master was for me perfect metal. After Keeper I, they became much too happy to my taste. I prefer better their debut EP and some songs from Keeper I. However, summing everything up, I consider this album far from regular than Keeper I where a couple of songs are quite cheesy. How many tears is my favourite here 3. Running Wild. Port Royal. IMO the album in which they mastered the sound they wanted mixing the savagery of piracy and the melody of, let's say, the sea. All songs catchy and aggresive. Conquistadors, Uatchitsun... Perfect. 4. Judas Priest. Painkiller. In my opinion and in many others' is the maximum accomplishment of what a Heavy Metal album has to mean, though Defenders of the Faith is close second to it with jewels such as Hard rock ride free, Jawbreaker, The Sentinel...wow so many hits in just one album. There is a song I don't like at all-Heavy Duty- and I have never been a big fan of "Eat me Alive" -though it fits great for concerts- I am going for a smoke, I continue later. 5. While smoking, I recalled "True as Steel" by Warlock. I have it taped and it is probably the tape that I have carried with me the most. Songs as Vorwarts, True as Steel, Midnight in China are really awesome, really metal. 6. King Diamond "Abigail" in which his fantastic mixture between metal and horror were better accomplished. Black Horsemen is my favourite there, but it could be any other song. All Diamond albums are fantastic, but this is my clear favourite. 7. Which album to choose from Blind Guardian. Another difficult question. It is almost impossible to choose between "Tales from the Twilight World", "Somewhere far beyond", "Imaginations" and "Nightfall". I know "Tales from the Twilight" for longer, but my vote goes for "Nightfall" just for its length. All songs in these albums are fantastic and "Nightfall" is double. These above were kinda easy to pick. Now I got a problem. There are 3 choices left and I have many albums in mind. First two albums by Crimson Glory, Russian Roulette by Accept, Lizzy Borden debut Love You To Pieces, Queensryche debut EP, first two Dio albums, Sanctuary both masterpieces, Loudness "Thunder in the East" -but I don't like their "Crazy Nights" hit, quite cheesy- and a ballad there, Su Ta Gar first album and their previous demos, but I am choosing: 8. GAME: GUESS THE ALBUM. I bought the tape from this band in a flea market when I was 14 or so and I have love this album since. I am not putting the name of the band...You are to investigate. It is their debut album in 1984, though they release it again the next year substituting 4 songs for another ones. Their next albums were not so amazing, though quite good and later they turned into Glam and fashion and crap. My favourite songs in the 1984 album were and are Break The Chains, On Through The Night, Liar, Sunrise In Tokyo...really all...and also the one that screams: " [Boulton/Marsh] Light, burning in your eyes, telling all your lies leading me to hell, and I just hope and pray That I'll be there some day, I'm going all the way [Chorus] If Heaven Is Hell You'll never get me down If Heaven Is Hell You'll never get me down Run, fighting to the end, just what will we learn? Will we burn away?, is this what you want? Its too late to change, stare it in the face [Chorus] [Solo] [Chorus] [Solo] Don't, don't turn it away, we fought it so hard Now we can't, turn it away [Chorus]" 9. Yngwie "Marching Out" The perfect union between virtuosism and metal song composing. You find great riffs and solo as in any shredder album, but the songs in this one are amazing: Anguish and Fear, I am a Viking, Don't let it end... 10. U.D.O.'s Timebomb where metal really becomes feeling, "retlessness and wildness"

Well I think I will end with my 10 favourite thrash metal albums, but after long deliberation I have had to pick up not 10, but 13...Anyways, 13 is the "witch" number, so I think it fits into the matter. I was considering making other lists about Death, Gothic, Folk...but I did not grow up -music related- with these last styles, so I don't know them for long and, regarding Folk and Doom, I just got into it a couple of years ago -except with Skyclad and My Dying Bride- In regards Hard Rock, it was never my favourite and I was quite young when it reached its peak @1980 -let's say- There is no order: 01. Abbatoir. The Only Safe Place. 02. Megadeth. Peace sells. 03. Machine Head. The Gathering, though their debut is also awesome. 04. Testament: Low, though " " " " " " -see above- 05. Realm. Suiciety. Though this band was something in the middle between Heavy and Thrash. They were Progressive. 06. Deathrow, I suppose it will be "Raging Steel", though their debut "Satan's Gift" is also amazing 07. Kreator. Coma of Souls 08. Lääz Rockit Nothing'$ $acred 09. Overkill. Taking Over. 10. Anthrax. Spreading the Disease. Fuck: brute and melodic. 11. Forbidden. "Twisted into Form", though, once more, their debut rules too. 12. Scanner. Hypertrace. An ever favourite. They played Speed Metal. That style became fusioned with Power Metal, but it was considered a subgenre of Thrash Metal at that time. 13. Crom. Wasteland. Their second album. Their first one was Heavy Metal. That was a conceptual album developing the Avalon and Arthur myth completely and, IMO, it is the best Spanish thrash metal release of all times. It was published in around 1989 and remained quite unknown since.

Saw the band perform at the Aardschokdag 1984 where the shared the bill with Horizon, Savage (yes the English one), Venom and Metallica. Somewhere halfway through their set Andy Wrighton tripped over his bass guitar chord and fell off the stage.

And after Ive thought that several times, I just end up abandoning any list, because there's no 10 albums that I love more than the many other albums that I love. A top 10 of each genre? That would still be hard for me, but I think I probably could just about do that. lol

Note: this is not a list of all time greatest albums, it is a list of personal favorites. Some of these albums I would never put in a list of all time greatest albums, but I love them all to death. 1/2. The Black Halo - Kamelot/The Human Eqation - Ayreon. Don't make me choose. 3. Images And Words - Dream Theater 4. Oceanborn - Nightwish 5. Follow The Reaper - Children of Bodom 6. Holy Diver - Dio 7. Into The Electric Castle - Ayreon 8. Consign To Oblivion - Epica (their later albums suck, I don't care what anybody says) 9. Ecliptica - Sonata Arctica 10. Animatronic - The Kovenant
