I already have quite a few albums to look forward to in 2016, so I figured we'd go ahead and get this thread started. The two so far are the upcoming Ctheilist and Lycus albums. Ctheilist embody all that is great with strange Lovecraftian death metal, while Lycus are an incredibly solid funeral doom outfit.

Weird you think that. It's very stereotypically black metal, but I think they do it in the right way. Makes me think of Hirilorn a little.

It's a bit too stereotypical I guess. And the fact that you can perfectly make out what's being sung/screamed is a big no-no for black metal of this type.

I thought that was one of the highlights. Pretty rare you can make out what they're saying (if you're inclined too, I don't really care for lyrics, but I appreciate how well he enunciates).

The lyrics are the problem for me in this case, I generally only want to be able to understand lyrics when they're good. If he sang the exact same lyrics in a way that I couldn't make out a word I would have no problem with the vocals and probably like it a little better overall.

I can't pretend I've even heard a single line of lyrics at this point

Fair enough, I guess I am more easily bothered by something like that

I get your lyrics complaints since they sing in German
When it's sang on languages which aren't your mother language you can just "choose not to understand" what's being sang if you want to. However it's far harder to ignore when it's your mother language

That's probably one of the reasons why I hate Brazilian music in general :3

But they sing in English... And neither German nor English are my mother tongue. Are you sure you're in the right thread?

Oops, my mistake. I could swear they sang in German

In this case I can't understand the complaint anymore and take out everything I said, and add that you are just whiny.
You can just choose to not understand if you want to =D

I really can't, but I do agree I'm probably just a whiny bitch.

For the record though, the lyrics/vocals aren't my only problem with that song.

Nice meeting of bestial black metal and OSDM. Unoriginal, but satisfying delivery and sound.

Proggy stuff that totally seems to appeal to me. Probably because of the guy's clean singing, but the production is pleasantly organic and songwriting isn't overly technical.

The new Sonance album "Blister the Maw" is fucking incredibly. Definitely one of the best things I've heard all year, and one of the best sludge related albums I remember from the past few years. Fucking check it out now...

And moving to a band I just found, is Scald's "Vermiculatus". It's one 47 minute track that seems to encompass a wide range of genres including black metal, a little avantgarde, and grindcore. Quite an interesting release, though it will take me a few more listens to truly figure out what i think of it.

So apparently this is a 2005 album, but the rerelease on bandcamp has a 2016 release date....my bad

Crusty death metal split. Yeah, I post a lot of this kind of crap. I guess I have a thing for it. Both sides sound good.

Finally Alterage has now leaked completely and crush it does so.

Shame the Lovecraftian dragon worm child is now needlessly packaged behind by awful djent text.

Highly cinematic drone doom, and ambient, stuff. Has an almost early A Forest of Stars / SubRosa vibe because of the use of violin, and segues into heavy drone doom territory a bit later on. Accomplished stuff.

Balls to the wall blackened (ish, I guess) death metal with some heavy punk tendencies. Really energetic, bouncy and dynamic stuff with quality and meaty sound.

A Forest of Stars you say? Their recent album was one of the top 3 from last year. I guess I must check this out then.

Shame that the really nice looking worm dragon Lovecraftian child thing on this is now needlessly packaged behind by that god-awful djent looking logo.

So much! I guess artworks like this are better left without any text in it.

I think this is probably closer to the first two albums feel, but give it a go nonetheless if you like drone and stuff.

Some pretty weird lo-fi atmospheric blackened pop/dubstep, and by pretty weird I mean it's actually very weird indeed
